View Full Version : No tacho feed in ECU - How to get it from Coil ?

I've got the Apex'i SAFC wiring diagram for my car, but it says where the tachometer wire should be, but it's not on my harness.
So.. How do I get the Tachometer line? Isn't there a way I can get it off the coil?
Thanks

Which version of the SAFC do you have?
I am not totally sure about your question. If you want to get an RPM feed to the SAFC, you can spline it directly off the tacho line.
Or do u mean the harness on the unit itself is missing the tacho feed?

Harness is missing the tacho feed. I'm sure you feed if off the coil somehow?

Negative connection on the coil isnt it?
Isnt that where your current one is running from aswell?
Only one ive ever been involved with was on a LJ Torana. Can't remember how that went on either, though.

If it's missing the tacho feed, then it has to be one of the wires connected to the ECU, if you can find that, spline the line to the car's tacho feed.
Can't remember how mine was done. Oh also, you will need a knock sensor too, the magns do not have them.
Hope it helps..

I've got a Verada - so I have the knock sensor :)
Now - I don't have the tacho feed going to the ECU but have the following, what one should I splice into:
Ignition Coil BW -> Ignition
Ignition Coil W -> Power Transister
Ignition Coil W -> Noise Filter then Noise Filter WB -> Tachometer
Ignition Coil WG -> ECU (ecu tells power transister to kick in)
I'm pretty sure its the one from the Noise Filter WB -> Tachometer. I think I might have to get it from the back of the dash where the connecter is to the dash instruments.
Why can't anything be simple?

It is pretty easy. You can run a wire direct from the underside of the coil. Thats what I did with with my Autometer tacho

All the V6's have knock senses as fair as i know?!?
My TR certainly did and it was an exec..
