Hey all
Anyone know of the top of their heads what size the block drain plug is? It seems a bitch of a thing to remove at the best of times. Any help?

I thought it was bigger than that, 17mm or 19mm??? Its not that much of a hassle to check, just go under the car with a spanner or 2 and try em out haha. I'd go check mine for ya right now if i had my car with me lol. but i dont... but i'm quite sure it'd b 17 or 19mm from memory..

oh sorry ignore that, I thought you were talking about the oil block drain plug. Wouldn't know the coolant haha. whenever I do that, I drop the bottom radiator hose, open up where the thermostat is and flush it out with water, then refill with coolant. you might want a bucket when you drop the radiator hose if you have coolant in the car tho, dont want that all over your driveway/lawn/street etc :P
but at a guess i'd prob say 12/14mm too, since that is what most things are on our cars :D
Its between 14mm and 17mm, I just have a uniquely awesomely designed spanner set that doesnt have a 15mm or 16mm spanner.

the block drain plug is imperial
the only thing on the engine that is not metric
A 9/16 AF spanner or socket is the right size
it is also a tapered thread so it tightens as you thread it in
use stag on the thread and tighten till firm only
:D
AHHHH i know the magna was screwing me again, silly imperial sizing.
What is stag? like a thread locker?

stag is a red jointing paste .... repco sell it in a tube
you can use other stuff if you have it ... permatex for example

No, it is actually a 14mm not a 9/16th which is either way very close.
Use a single hex socket as they are very tight to get out, when you reinstall ALWAYS torque to spec with no "stag" If you overtighten you can crack the block when it all warms up. Have seen this a few times more so in the older Astrons in the Stigmas
