Hi ive decided to go with a panel instead of pod, after reading some interessting reviews on AMC, basically because its overall better performance and easier to install :)

but where can i buy one that will fit magna/verada 2000? is Autobarn or Supercheap good? os is that cheap rubbish? looking for a good quality one..

if anyone has any ideas.. cheers...

so you think pod is better?

Panel is the way to go, the best things about them (K&N panel) is that you can simply clean it and oil it and your good to go again, no wasting time/effort/money buying new air filters.

With the pod you have to worry about legalities, air flow sensor, etc.

K&N are pretty much the bees knees to air filters (IMO), they build quality stuff and u do feel a bit more responsiveness installing one... not sure if it was coz the previous filter was in need of replacing or it actually did some good, but drove my mates vx with the ls1 and i felt a fair bit of a difference installing a K&N filter to it, felt slightly quicker off the line too

EDIT: this is only a panel filter, there may be differences when it comes to the pod- but like previous posts, u gotta worry more on legalities when it comes to pod filters- and heat

so you think pod is better?

I think you will find a lot of information about this if you search for pod, panel and CAI.

To summarize (from my searching)

Most do not think a panel filter improves performance AFAIK (over a clean stock normal filter).

A pod filter can decrease performance if it is not enclosed and connected to a cold air intake - this is because it sucks in hot air from the engine. Apparently an unenclosed pod filter sounds nice.

If you want some increased performance most would say go with a cold air intake into either a pod or panel filter - however this involves a fair bit of hacking around - once again search for CAI or "cold air intake"

Once again as far I could find there were no dyno figures for this etc, but that is not to say that it does not increase power or increase responsiveness - but I thin it would only be a few kw / Nm at most.

Pretty good summary there.....

having put a pod straight onto my verada (KJ) almost immediatley after buying it.. and now returning it to a stock PAPER element filter ($19.48 from repco) and air box setup, i can tell you good and bad things..

good - the lost power has come back, this is particular in the low rpm take offs like at the lights.. fuel economy has got a tad better..

bad - well it's not really bad.. but there is almost zero induction noise with the stock setup back on, vs the massive induction noise it used to have..

the only thing to change would maybe be add another cool air feed for the stock air box..

but i can't see it making a billion more hp..

seriously the stock paper element seems to do it's job brilliantly, the only real gain with a K&n is you can wash it out, rather than throw out your old $20 paper filter and put a new one in.. and seriously.. how often is that done.. maybe once or twice a year.. depending on how dusty your area is...

if you insist on the K&n.. hit up ebay.. there like $35USD + shipping..

could be at your door for under $50AUD..

Also if you want to get it from autobarn, repco, wherever... most of these shops can price match and beat the price of a competitor by 10%, just saves you a few more dollars
