Hey Everyone,

A mate of my brother's drove his magna in to a stopped 4WD, and has written it off. It's sitting at a smash repairers 10 mins from me and he was not insured so he is going to pull off the rims and get the car scrapped. He asked me if I wanted to make him an offer for the rims, it also has lowered springs (Sits very low to the ground, 12cm clearance under the body and the mud flaps nearly touch the ground).

I am not a massive fan of the rims but if I can get something for cheap, I am always up for a good deal. I thought I would put a few technical and opinion related questions forward to the knowledgeable members of AMC.

Now, I could probably grab this whole wreck off him for under $1000, but I am not sure I have the time or energy to strip and sell it, but if I get enough interest from people on here I might consider it. Anyone need parts off a standard Magna? Its Auto I'm pretty sure and also has a full sports exhaust.

Technical Questions:
- Will the rims fit my car?
- Will the lowered springs fit my car?
- What size do you think the rims are (I'm thinking 16" or 17"??)
- What size do you think the springs are (lows, superlows, compressed??)
- Can anyone find pics on the net of the 'Zepter' rims so i can photoshop them onto my car, i couldnt

Opinion Based Questions:
- Do you think the springs/rims setup will look good on my car
- Do you think it is worth my effort paying $100 odd to get it towed home, then spending a full day taking the springs off and getting them onto my car.
- What do you think the rims are worth? they have about 50-60% tread left I think
- Should I buy the thing for fun and try and get it going? I didn't have a look under the hood but I presume the engine has been pushed off its mounts or something for them to write it off

Thanks for your help in advance,

Pete.

What is the colour of the interior trim (aka. dash, door panels)? Might be interested in buying the drivers trim if you buy the wreck :P

Rims are 17" (You can tell by the pic of the tyre 235/45R17, last 2 numbers are rim size).

I'd be keen on the exhaust system, pending details.

Where abouts in NSW are you?

North West Sydney, I live out past (snip) a bit, but I travel to Castle Hill/Carlingford and out to Penrith regularly :-)

Cool. Do you have any details on the custom exhaust set-up?

Not yet, but I will see how i go

Edit: Sorry dude, just called my brother and the exhaust had the first mufflers played round with (the one after the exhaust manifold out of the engine) and apparently the back muffler was sawed right off!!!!!!!!

My brother's ****head mates for ya!!!!!

I would pay around $300 to $400 for the rims and it wont take you a whole day to rip the suspension out and replace yours its about a 4 to 5 hour job

P.S i will take the tail lights

Okay so I wen't and got a few more photos. The radiator has been pushed back too far to really recover the car, hence the write off. Rear end is still good though and Interior is standard black plastic with standard blue/black door trims.

Gremlin not to sound arrogant but are you sure the rear springs wont fit? Has anyone else on here tried to make 3rd gen rear springs fit a 2nd gen?

BJ31OS I might see if I have time to get some parts, my work is pretty flat out at the moment. If I am allowed to take some parts off it I will put up a EOI thread for parts on the car.

Got some more pics too:

If you buy it for parts, I'm sure you would be able to make your money back quite fast.

Ie. if electric windows, ill take the whole kit - door cards, electrics, wiring harness. (If you're willing to sell the kit cheap :))

Also, if the bootlid is Mawson white, ill take it for $75-80 :), same for rear bumper (mine is screwed).

Hell, I'll even take the colour coded skirts and mirrors :)

i had a set of 2nd gen springs and 3rd gen springs sitting around at some point and the fronts were the same but the rears werent ...and i think its been attempted by ppl on here before with no luck..but im not 100% sure on that

in saying that, seeing as you have a donor car thats going to the wreckers anyway can't hurt to try just to be sure :D

I have posted an EOI thread for the other parts, just waiting for it to be approved and I will link here.

In the meantime can anyone else help with getting 3rd gen springs onto a 2nd gen. Will it work?
Can anyone please try and help me find these rims on the net :-( having trouble!

After some searching I have PM'd Madmagna who I believe has put 3rd gen rear springs into a second gen.

There are threads everywhere about it but noone seems to know!

Hmmm no

The third gen rears fit straight into the back end of a second gen. The Springs will, the Struts will not.....

I had third gen springs in my second gen as they have far better rates than the second gen

Looks to be a waste of a car, I have fixed worse looking cars than that provided the strut has not moved at all.

Awesome!!!!

Thanks for clarifying that. I agree, it is a real waste. if I decide to take it home I might try and bend the front end back out and see if its feasible to try and get it going.

I need to get some pics of the front end damage in the light, I work during the week and saturdays too but I might be able to drop by this evening before it gets dark on me again otherwise I'll swing around one morning or Sat.
