Well it's finally time, my car's booked in on Saturday morning to have the King Lows and KYBs fitted at 8:30 and then 18" ROH Mantis in shadow chrome fitted at 10:30ish :D
Although now the next couple days will go really slowly... :doubt:
Anyway the reason I created this thread is has anyone had much experience with Hancook rubber? That's what I'm getting fitted and from what I've read they're not too bad. Im wanting something that's grippy enough but also not too loud. Also any idea what type of mileage i'd be able to expect?
Cheers,
Aaron

My car sits on Hankook Ventus 405 HRII 235/40/R18 XLs and theyre pretty good.
Grippy, good handling and road holding in dry and wet conditions. My only gripe is that they are a tad noisy on poor road surfaces but that might have more to do with my tyre pressures being high.

I had hancooks on my second gen. They were pretty good, the wear on them was far better then on the Bridgestone GridIII that where on the car aswell. Unfortunetly they seemed to be very prone to punctures  , maybe thats just me though.
I currently have the Hancook Optimo XQ (225/50R17 XL 98W), otherwise known as 422.
They have been superseeded by the 424 but are still available.
They have more grip both in wet and dry compared to the OEM Grid II, they are quieter
and has lasted longer than the Grid II (33,000kms with a bit more left to go compared with
going bald at 27,000kms).

You cant really judge a tyre based only on its brand. Which tyres are you excatly getting, ie, the model number.
Entry level Hankooks will clearly be crap, but the top of the line models will obviously be better.

if your after a bit cheaper tyre go for a Maxxis tyre. The grippie and wear very very well and no noise.

The bloke said either a Ventus HR2 or a V8RS depending on what's available. He said they're both a premium tyre and the HR2 is slightly quieter but the V8RS is slightly more grippy.

i used falken 451s on my magna and then changed to hancook k104's later on.
the k104's were a tad less grip than the 451s but they lasted twice as long since the 451s are a soft rubber. I would have continued using the same rubber had I kept the car.
Also had a chance to sample bridstone re040's, re050's and yokohama advan which is whats on the 350 now. Definiitely great rubber as well and gripped well. We'll see how long they will last though.

My pick of bang-for-buck performance tyres:
-Federal s595
-Maxxis MA-ZI (dont confuse with MA-V1, these are ****)
Fantastic grip, but a little on the noisy side, as they are a soft-compound directional tyre.

Said it before and I'll say it again, don't buy Maxxis rubber, due to the profit off sales going to the Exclusive Brethren cult.

maxxis is the worst tyre i have ever driven on. i replaced them after 5000km, as they were totally unsafe. no traction in rain or hot weather. utterly terrible tyre

dude sorry but thats a bit controversial for a first post, I have heard litereally hundreds of rave reviews about some maxxis tyres, from many many different boards, just do some searching on google. They have also done a lot of controlled testing with other tyres by several magazines. What model and size did you try???

Which Maxxis tyre? IMO The MA-Z1s are amazing for the price - grip as well as the expensive "performance", and also spectacular in the wet.
My only complaints are they are a bit noisy, and have quite tall tread-blocks, so they do squirm a little at first. But IMO for the money they are great.
The Federal 595s arent as good in the wet (but still ok), but seem to have quite a stiff sidewall for a street tyre. Also they are very good on the track for a street tyre - unlike the Maxxis which overheat, go greasy and melt very easily.
Yes i am very pleased with my MAXXIS Z1s.:D
