Im fairly certain no models had a shadow chrome shifter surround. There was black and there was chrome, hence my post.

Even Gtv/i didnt have anything bar the standard chrome surround, it did have have much better coloured trim and no plasticnastywood.

You could always spray some Nightshades on a standard chrome surround..

Yeah, that's the one. And one of the GTV's musta had it, cos there was one on ebay only last week that I didn't bid on cos it had a few scratches on it. I'm just not sure if this was avail on the TJ equivalent Verada or TL/W equivalent. Anyone??

No Veradas had a shadow chrome tippy surround.

After looking at the Veradas on Carsales, it looks like only KJ2 and up had chrome tippy surrounds. KJ1 and below did not have chrome tippy surrounds. My KJ1 definitely does not.

If you decide to buy one for your TF, make sure it's one from a KJ2 as the ones from a KL/KW won't fit correctly.

Why is that? Does it sit higher because the console sits higher?

The TF sports had a chrome tiptronic shifter surround, probably get one of those fairly cheap.

Maybe when the chrome surround is seen / photographed at a certain angle it looks darker?

KJ uses glow strips and screws
KL/KW uses bulbs and clips

Yep, especially if it is reflecting a darker surface.

Thanks mate.

For the rest of youse, definitely wasn't the angle of the photo. And it was described as shadow chrome (or similar. Can't remember exact description) and off GTV. So it looks like the one on ebay musta had a clear dark spray applied over the top of the chrome or something.

Probably because he/she got blinded too many times when the sun is at just the right angle
to reflect the light into you eyes. I have been wanting to do this for a while.

Which is why I changed mine over from chrome to black. There's enough glare coming from other cars without getting it from in the cabin as well.

Also, I've seen an example of the chrome "puckering" up and peeling off. So you'd want to be sure of the longevity and condition of the chrome.

They actually fit in differently, I'm not sure of the differences, but people have tried putting TL/TW/KL/KW shifter surrounds in TJ/KJ back and it can't be done without a lot of modification.

true iirc the TJ ones screw in and the later ones clip in or something.

but i know some i photographed came out a goldy color so i reckon its the lighting.

If you examine the TL/W console itself, it's much different to the TE-TJ console in terms of shape and contour, probably why they modified the tippy surround to suit I suppose...

See this (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56494&highlight=chrome) thread for a L and W series chrome surround.
