Hi Guys,

just wanted to point out a little tech tip I found on www.fastmagna.com, about cleaning the plug on the distributor with some metho and an old toothbrush.

I did this last night in hope that it would fix the numerous problems I have been having with my TR wagon, and I can say that it did!!! It fixed the low performance problems, the stalling, the shuddering, the poor fuel economy - the list goes on!

Basically what happens is after 15 years of wear and tear, the rubber boot protecting this plug fades away and it now lets water, dirt etc. onto the contacts of the plug. This then gives a poor connection and causes all the problems. You just get an old toothbrush, dip it in metho and scrub the inside of both connections to this plug. Hey presto, problem gone :)

With everyone's TR getting to the same age, I recomend checking this to everyone. I also cleaned my TPS plug while I was there as I noticed it had built up green corrosion on the contacts also.

Hope this helps some people, I was about to sell the magna for whatever I could get for it as I was sick of all these problems - now Im in love with the versatile wagon again :D

Good post....anyhting that keeps the little Red Rocket going is appreciated :D

I'm running mine on 98 Octane BP at the moment hoping that the detergents they mix it with will clean my valves etc. I seem to be getting better economy and a bit more torque and grunt. It worked on my TH Advance got around 8 % better econon so it was worth the extra cash.:D

But I have replaced air filter and rear muffler as well.....

i rather prefer shell v-power. i find that it makes the car run better and gives it a bit more power compared to BP

I think all those petrols are a waste of my 10c per litre extra IMO :P

fair enough, not sure what the v6 is like but i definitely notice the change in mileage which balances itself out anyway. just as an example similar driving but from 91 i used to get sorta 480kms and out of 98 i get more like 530

I use V-Power once a month just to help clean the insides I run Shell E10 for the rest of the month filling up once a week on cheap Tuesdays in Sydney with 4 cent Coles voucher. I find when I do run on V-Power, I get a slightly better fuel consumption.
