Hi

The clutch in my 97 TE has been slipping and i think its in need of a new one, can anyone recommend which brands to use/not use.

Also is there enough clearance to drop the gearbox out without having to pull the motor out?

if you have the car on stands thats yes, also check that the fluid levels on the master cylinder are fine, have had that issue before on previous cars.

check the free travel on the clutch pedal too. At the top of the pedal there is an adjuster bolt. Back off the lock nut and wind the bolt out a bit. This will give you a little bit more time to get a clutch organised.

I got just a clutch plate when i did my clutch and it only cost me $75, opposed to about $600 for a whole kit.

Thanks for the info, im going to try and adjust the pedal.

Are there any brands i should stay away from when buying a new clutch? I usually stick with PBR but if anyone has any suggestions please add to this thread.

I have adjusted the clutch at the pedal (no adjustment left now) and it has made a big difference although it is still slipping, no where near as bad as it was.

How do you check the master cylinder? There is plenty of fluid, but the clutch may need to be bled.

Also whats the average life of a clutch? My magna has just done 180k km.
