I'm confused

TS 2.6

This has a Timing Chain right - not belt?
Back of my mind, needs replacing every 100k, Mitsi tells me Chain (guides etc) only needs adjustment at 200k, not replacing.
Reckons to replace Chain is $1100, that's without a sevice.

Someone turn the light on for me please???

Yes the old astrons run a Chain not a belt, and im pretty sure they need changing every 100k, PM magnabuff he knows these engines well.

It's not actually the timing chain that rattles but the counter balance shaft chain.
There is an adjuster on the front but don't think it solves any problems if it's rattling, change the chain and guides when it rattles, $1100 seems excessive

I've asked this question myself alittle while back. Below is the link to that thread and below that is what X_Firestorm_X had to say about it.

Haha fair enough mate, on the good end of the scale, expect around the $650 mark (incl labour). But some mechanics can charge a little more, possibly up to $800ish. Best to ring around and get some quotes to compare against first.

the TR/TS 2.6 motor has a self-tensioner on the oil pump for the cam chain

and a self-tensioner on the balance shaft and oil pump chain

on the timing cover is a cap held on by two 10 mm bolts

the sticker on that cap says do not adjust if a TR/TS

you can still adjust special bolt B
