I scored a electrochromic rear vision mirror and have a question about the power demands of one.
Fitting it to the window will be the easy bit as it fits the same mount in my 380, I'm just wondering where to ge the power from and if I need to install a protective fuse.
Has anyone got any advice for me please.
Thanks in advance Marty.

I doubt it would draw much at all, maybe 1 or 2 amps at most,id be inclined to tap of the interior light before the switch if the mirror can be turned on and off seperately as it would be live all the time on that circuit, which isnt ideal if you park in the street and have cars going past at night etc and triggering it etc,the interior light fuse should cope,to be honest,it should probably have its own igntion feed with seperate fuse etc if you wanted to do it right
anyone got the schemetics of this sucker?

So what does this mirror do exactly?
Darkens the mirror at night so you don't get blinded by headlights looking in the rear view mirror.
Also performs minor xray vision.

The loom for it may be available as a part - so you can do it all proper like.
They are pretty cool ;) (you really notice how good they work, when they are off)

It doesnt have a switch for day/night and it auto dims with ambient light detectors front and rear control the dimming in graduations.
I think there's a gel between the glass and the reflective material and as a current passes through, it lets less light through.

it is available as a part, but its a complete loom! just grab an old AT power supply and cut the connector it fits the mirror exactly. i did it on mine and sent 1 to gas head lol
i connected it to the sunroof cause it was in the roof and easy to get to. its just 12v and gnd. the 3rd wire is for the drivers mirror.

Um this one has three wires
The diagram given included the wires to connect to the dimming driver's side mirror; which is run off the interior one.
This function takes up the wires at plug position 4 & 5.
The mirror iteself is a complete self-contained unit and will work so long as a power supply (from ACC) (Black&Blue Wire)and an earth connected(Black only). The earth for the mirror in my car is behind the map/interior lamp.
All 3rd gens have a metal bracket to connect the earth to.

mcs_xi = legend
I have the plug and about 8 inches of the wiring
I have a black wire (earth), a blue with small red stripe and a red with a blue strip.
Logic tells me the red is power and the blue would be a signaling wire for the mirror, I just dont want to cook the thing.....
So..... The red wire.......or.......the blue wire. :)

You should thank Wannamagna for the link that i pinched form his answer in the For Sale section! lol But i do have an idea for that other wire... Would it be there to tell the mirror that the headlights are on? I remember mine dimming when i turned the lights on in my 380....

the 3rd wire is for the drivers mirror.
The drivers side external door mirror dims too? I'll have to look into this, as if its the case, I dont think mine works.....
