I know it's been a long time coming, but we have found the elusive Quaife part number for the ATB LSD that fits all 3rd gen Magnas and Veradas.
it is QDH7B-R. it is the diff out of the 2WD Turbo Eclipse, with the drive gear reversed.
you can order direct from Quaife at http://www.quaife.co.uk/Mitsubishi-Eclipse-2WD-Turbo-ATB-differential
or you can get them from the US at many places like:
http://www.roadraceengineering.com/quaife.htm
you may need a speedo drive gear ring, but that should be no biggie now that we've identified the diff!
big thanks to Cummins for his help today!
cheers,
.wook
EDIT: it would appear that you would need to order this from Quaife directly and request the drive gears be reversed.

Does anyone know what skills are required to fit these?? At the moment i'd be too ***** to try it. I know your talking 3rd gen but quaife also make one for the fwd 3000gt.

Interesting find. When I got mine and enquired about where it came from, I was told something along the lines of "they were custom-ordered from Quaife in a batch, specifically for our magnas".
hmmmmmmmm.
I wonder how much it costs to order one directly from Quaife or the US.

I was hunting on 3si and found something that said the ones out of the eclipses (FWD) fit the 3000GT gearbox which is the same as ours.
Difficulty is pretty easy going by the DIY, take off the end case, remove a few gears, replace diff, get the speedo gear pressed in and put it back together.
I'll try and find the link.

The same was said about the Cusco's.. So i know who told you that..
I made direct contact with Cusco in Japan and they where more than happy for me to deal with them direct..:) I brought gears for mine straight from cusco japan and cut out atleast two middl men..:P
With those sort of prices(1195) and all the messing around and dollar conversion i dont think it would be cheaper than buying in Australia.. Ive been priced $1850 Supplied here..
Now the 566 price would be more worth the while. Plus plus plus would still work out a pinch over $1k supplied.
Now i dont how many peopleare real serious but i am. if we can get a few people together we can do a group buy.. I got a feeling we are going to have to anyway..
P.S. Regards fitting. i wouldnt even think about doing it yourself.. just get it fitted properly..:)

Hell yes. Once/if the au dollar goes back to usd 0.96 the US may be more viable.

yeah, unfortunately we didn't find this out until after the AUD started to slide back down against the USD...
there also seems to be a different number that this diff might be known as. it's 76.309.160 and is listed on most US sites with that number.
as of today, GBP 566.50 is a bit over $1200 AU, and that's before the speedo ring gear and bearings, and shipping. turns out to be a bit cheaper than most of the places in the US, but I have no idea what ring gear to order from Quaife. that info is probably only an email away if anyone is serious.
I've found them for about $1145 US and the speedo gear ring is usually less than $50, which makes it less than $1400 + shipping (probably $100 US). I know it's not much cheaper than the dodgy Australian supplier, but hey, it IS cheaper.
for the record, the part number was missing from the box that mine shipped in (as in cut off) and the diff itself has been butchered with a file or grinder.

I tried contacting Quaife about it and they said "We don't manufacture a diff for your car."
so if you want to keep giving THAT GUY your hard earned, go ahead... I will never buy anything from him again.
cheers,

EDIT: I'm trying to find some info about the 380/Galant diff, but not finding much at all. will keep looking.

Yeah this info is relevant for 3rd genners too. In the 3000gt's they usually pull off the factory speedo ring gear and fit it with a bit of modification.
I reckon they should be diy also only need to make sure things get pressed on properly but its not hard to tell you've done something wrong with a gearbox.
Pm me that how to paul please!!

Mine wasn't missing a number. From memory it was the same number as the one listed earlier in this thread QDH7B with one exception - it had another letter at the end, which I think was an "-R".
I passed this info onto another member of these forums, who contacted Quaiffe directly (almost 2 years ago now). This person was told that it was the same diff as the 2wd turbo eclipse, but the -r suffix (if it was an R, it could have been something else) meant that it was reverse geared or something. I don't know if the turbo eclipse has the engine mounted in the opposite orientation to our magnas, but it would make sense that if it did, then the diff from it would need something to be in reverse in order to work in our cars.
Sorry I'm abit sketchy on the details - as I said this all took place nearly 2 years ago. If anyone is going to order this part number from quaiffe - please make sure it is the right one, and it doesn't need to be modified in anyway because the eclipse engine is the other way around to ours.

Wow... Number off the box is ok but grinding the part number off the part is just down right unprofessional.. But that sums him up...

this annoys me. the chode from WA has numbered this part M7R, which kind of ties in with BB's info.
the 2nd gen Eclipses had their engines mounted on the left hand side of the engine bay, driving a gearbox on the right hand side. this would mean that the drive gear would need to be reversed to fit our engine/gearbox orientation, else the wheels would be turned the wrong way.
I'm sure this is something that Quaife would do, although it might mean they need an order of a certain number before they're willing to do it.

I had a cusco - it lasted 5 months. Then I got one of the 1st Quaiffe's RPW imported, approximately 1 year ago, now that I think about it, not 2  .
