Hey guys,

now before you think yet another 3rd gen having starting issues... this time it is more than that.. its been day's i think whatever has caused it is permanent...
car just turns over and won't fire, occasionally tries to but won't.
also my aftermarket fuel pump will not charge.

I've tried using both my keys thinking it was the standard immoboliser issue. also replaced the battery.
I have also replaced the fuel pump with the original one thinking the new unit may have failed.. none of this has done anything.
I had to call RACQ and the guy came out and tested everything and inserted fuel into the fuel lines which started the car but then it stalled obviously when this fuel was used.

Now good news is I think I have identified the issue. I was checking to see if there was power getting to the fuel pump, now there is 4 pins on the plug for the fuel pump. a ground. and 3 alternatives... with the ignition in the ON position, my car only has power on 1 of the alternatives, however on my other working 3rd gen in the ON position there is 2....

I have checked all the fuses and they are fine.. any idea's what would be causing there to be no power to one of the pins?

or any other reason my car would not be starting??

thanks for your help

Have You hooked the fuel pump up to the battery to see if it warks..???

Yeah, check if it warks first, then it probably has a good chance of working too :D

i though the fuel pump was hoked up to a relay, maybe try swapping relays

and how would I do this?

It should have just a positive and negative wire to it shouldn't it..... I have never taken one out. Just give it 12 volts by hooking up red to positive and black to negative

there is power getting to the fuel pump.... however there is only 1 source im thinking that it requires 2 like my working TJ magna has...

I think the first thing to check is the wiring in the ignition barrel. If its the immobiliser wire changing keys won't help, you need to make the wire contacts so the ecu can read the code from the key head. If it doesn't read your fuel pump doesn't get any power, simple really.

Give your ignition barrel a few firm bumps with the palm of your hand and try and turn it over, if the wires loose you might be able to bump it back into contact to get it started. Has worked for me before, cbf getting around to fixing it :P

Ever considered bumping the ignition barrel may dislodge the wire instead. Take it to mitsu, get them to scratch their head over it. And i would not advice hooking up the fuel pump to the battery, if there is a tiny amount of fuel in there, a small spark from the battery could create a safety issue.

Nonsense, everyone knows the exact amount of force used to break an object can be re-applied to fix it in the same fashion.

cheers mate, however done this, also taken the ignition barrel out and pushed all the plugs together etc...

Maybe its broken somewhere else then? Probably wouldn't hurt to follow it through to the ecu for any breaks.

Well if its currently not working it can't make it worse can it...do you have to have a smart **** response to everything?

all fixed.... for now...

faulty connection to the fuel pump... apparently all that was needed was a firm hit ontop of the fuel pump and it started working.....

then pulled it all apart and found one of the connections to be a little lose.

Engine stopped - ignition on status the fuel pump is stopped for safety on all efi cars. This is so if you have an accident you will not have your fuel tank spread all over the ground.

If you are not getting fuel pressure on crank look to the relay first and if ok check the relay is getting its signal to fire also.
