hi, im wondering if its possible to be able to lower a ts, and still be able to tow??
One guy gave a measurement, but said rears are going to sit 1cm above the rear wheel!?? i do want to lower it but don't think i can and also be able to tow a horse float and boat?
My car is due for the shocks and/or springs to be replaced, so maybe heavy duty standards are the way to go.

i had lows in my old 2g (lovells in the front and kings in the rear) with kyb shocks all around. i used to put my dads trailer on the back when i would go out riding in the forest , 2 bikes + full car load. we had a the trailer chokers full of fire wood wood one day (it was interesting getting up the hill in the paddock lol) and it towed it fine and plus i had my 17's on at the time

yeh...:).... but a horse float and a boat are much heavier

question is, is the tr rated to tow something that heavy??

depends on how low, i cant see you having any issues, unless it is ridiculously low. an inch or two from stock shouldnt be an issue. the ride wouldnt be very comfortable as it would be sitting on bump stops anyway. make sure they are in good nick to.

thanks for that, but all i need is someone on here who has towed that heavy and what they used for shocks and springs.

you could get a custom set of rear springs made up , i know kings do them + other places in sydney do them as well

u will need a weight distribution hitch to spread the load between the rear and front axles. stiffening the rear will prevent sagging, but wont help with front wheel traction and steering. also make sure the tongue isn't overloaded. with the square hitches they can be switched over to give more hight to the tongue.

adza has heavys in his, its not "low" per say but it is a firmer ride like low springs...imo lowering and towing dont go well together..

right, time for one of those stories from my younger and dumber days

my first ts had a run in with a guard rail and was written off. so i bought another one, the one i have now, and swapped all the gear over, first things i swapped were the springs and shocks to kings lows all round with KYB excels. the last thing i swapped was the exhaust as i couldnt do it myself so i wacked the wrecked ts on a car trailer and towed it down to the exhaust shop with the new ts. now, anyone reading this should automatically realise this was dumb but it illistrates that lowered TS can tow a weight. i would guess that the total weight of the car+trailer was upwards of 1700 kgs and it was a pig to drive but it made it.

would never do it again! but i do tow stuff these days that is within the specs of the towbar (100ks on the ball, 1200 kgs total weigt) without any hassles...apart from traction lol

my guess would be that a boat or horse float would be more than 1200 kgs and i would recomend getting a tow car, i think in SA its near-to-law or law that you need a 4x4 to tow a horse float.

My mate used to tow his VLCT around ona tandem all the time in his KS, and that was on gas/auto - never had any problems. Of course his was factory height, but lowering it shouldn't matter a great deal.

Forget towing a horse trailer with a magna, and believe me, you'd want something Big, a vehicle with more weight than the combined weight of the trailer and horse, not to mention killing the transmission, cooking the brakes.
If you have a larger weight on the trailer than the car, its a recipe for disaster.

Looking for info, How many horses and how many wheels on the trailer?

Recommendations for maximum towing loads are unchanged from the previous models; they are 500 kg for a trailer without brakes and 1200 kg for a trailer with brakes. Maximum downward load on the towbar is 75 kg or 120 kg when a load equaliser hitch is used.

Say you have a big horse 600 kg plus your gear 100 kg, that means your horse trailer needs to weigh under 500kg.

So the answer is no, you can't tow a horse trailer, raised lowered or HD.
