Howdy all,
I'm looking to upgrade my interior ligts to something a little brighter without using neons. Is there a type of globe available for the interior roof lights that gives off a white glow rather than the standard yellow?
Cheers in advance.

jaycars have an led type. costs about $30. Its a matrix of high output LEDs and comes with
attachments for festoon holders. Plug the festoon attachment in and use the double-sided
adhesive to stick the light onto the housing. Goto jaycar (http://www.jaycar.com.au) and select car accessories as
the category and then car lighting as the sub-category. Its the last one in the list.

You can buy a variety of LED festoon replacement bulbs - fit straight in.
I had blue ones in my wagon roof lights - the blue are not good for brightness but look good.
I would imagine if you got white LEDs they'd be heaps brighter (and whiter).
You can get them from a variety of places including car shops (autobarn, etc.), ebay and maybe elec shops like jaycar/dse ??

Thanks guys, will look into it. I've just finished upgrading my interior roof lights and realised how easy it is to change the globes. So now I'm keen to up the light output. Will do some research and get back to you guys when I know what to use.
Cheers.

I've been mucking around with this myself and have found the ones pixxed above in the Top Right - the 6 small yellow leds in a 2X3 arrangement are the best/brightest. Make sure you buy the 31mm ones - some of those Pixxed are 41mm - too big!
I can recommend this seller - good price and reasonably quick delivery

Definitely ebay it, forget jaycar and the like, you'll pay 3x as much.
I've got 3x3 array ones that work pretty well, about on par with the incandescents, but those 2x3 look like they might be higher output per bulb.
Those ones that look like a big yellow blob can generally be regarded as being high-output.

'Big Yellow Blob" = 'SMD LED', and yes thay are a better output.

I'm looking to replace all 6 interior roof globes. This includes:
2x 12V 10W festoon globes (1x cabin, 1x rear cabin lights)
2x 12V 8W festoon globes (front map lights)
2x 12V 7.5W wedge globes (rear map lights)
Will he have globes to suit all of these or will he just have the festoon style?

Tried two of types and they were no good. Too much blue and not bright enough. Jaycar
offers discounts on multiple purchases, so I guess someone can do a group buy. The Jaycar
ones are the highoutput yellow blob type

I did have a look at that. But from what I could see, I couldn't find anything on the map lights. It did have the two main interior roof lights but I couldn't find anything about the map lights. If I'm wrong then so be it, but I was paying pretty close attention to that thread because I also wanted to upgrade my interior. Thanks for politely redirecting me.

'Big Yellow Blob" = 'SMD LED'
'Big yellow blob' generally= cerium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet, a phosphor coating. Just meant the bigger the "blob", generally speaking the higher the light output.
SMD LED doesn't mean jack as far as output is concerned, one SMD of one type could have more output than 20 of another. It's just the soldering design/method (Surface-Mount Device), as opposed to solder leads.
If you are handy with a soldering iron and voltage regulators, investigate Cree, Luxeon, or Seoul Semiconductor. Those suckers can get bright!

Yeah they have T5 and T10 (the figures are width in MM) wedgies as well - search their side for 'T5 LED' etc

depends..if there are two lights, then yes they are festoon, get the 6 led from Bio Living..really bright, but if it is the Verada light with map lights in it ,then yes ,this takes a combination of t15/t10 and 31mm festoon.
Though i have tried a 9led t15 in mine and was disapointed with the light,i think it has to do with how the bulb is oriented in the holder and i think the light gets difussed a lot by the covers.I have the two light map reading light up front and i just punched out the lenses to give a heaps better light throw...mind you i just changed the light over on the weekend to a commodore sunglass holder/light combo....will now move the map light to the rear of the car..

I mean the maplights above the dash on SE/veradas, it has 2 spotlights, the interior light takes festoons, then there is 2 spotlights coming off the side of that as well that i wanna know the bulbs for, did all my interior in LED's today, looks so much better, i used the 9LED SMD festoon for the interior lights and the light is amazing.

I've got the front maplights from a verada installed, with just the two spots, and it has festoons in the spots. Haven't looked at the centre-room ones that have both room and map lights.

What size festoons are in the verada maplights? i was under the impression that they were wedges simply because of their size.

Here they all are:
Cabin Light, 12V 10W 31mm festoon globe
Cargo Area Light, 12V 10W 31mm festoon globe
Front Map Lights, 12V 8W 31mm festoon globes
Rear Map Lights, 12V 7.5W wedge globes
If it doesn't make sense then just let me know.

I suggest buying them off the ebay store i suggested, the guy who runs it is having a look at this site, he may be becoming a sponsor soon, fingers crossed we might get some sweet deals.
White LEDs in the interior is so much nicer, if you do the dash as well, i suggest just doing the backlight bulbs and then removing the 2 that shine down onto the cluster, it looks alot more clean and you don't need the 2 to shine down on front of it, creates to much glare.

That is of course unless you have the white-face dials, then the opposite applies :D
