View Full Version : Rapid Clicking revs pulsating then **DEAD**

Ok i turned my TR 2.6lt magna over today and it was warming up fine after about 1 minute the revs pulsated from about 2000 to 500 and inbetween there i got alot of rapid clicking from the pessenger side dash and then the car stalls.

after turning the car over another 3 times after the 3rd time it just started and did it again so i left reds on and checked the engine bay.

I found a type of Two-way valve thing with a pipe going to the Plenum and and pipe going to somewhere else and a wire plug at the bottom this is mounted on the firewall basically near the plenum.

Now this thing was clicking like crazy and i noticed the pipe was not connected to the plenum so i cut it as it was cracked and stuck it back on also i unplugged the ISC and then cranked it did the same things so i plugged the ISC plug back in and started it and it seems to be running alrite.

Just wondering what it was and what the 2way valve is,
also this happened b4 and we got a New ECU put in it at a $500 cost i hope it aint that again as it is a similar problem.

Any1 help me ?

I was hoping some1 could tell me what the part was?

I dont know where my manual is so i cant find out myself.

which side is it on? Ive got the V6, but on drivers side theres a no return valve which is the fuel vapour outlet valve...i dont think it would do much at all to have it blocked...clean it with carby cleaner, and take all the plugs out, blow on them to get the crap out and plug them all back in, if one in particular looks corroded then try and VERY CAREFULLY using very fine paper, remove the oxodised area...other than that its hard to tell without a bit more accurate description...sounds like the TPS or ISC might be fried....

Does the engine light come on?

If yes id say:

Engine Control Relay Faulty (fuel pump)


(Common sign is, car clicks over, massive clicking noise from under right hand of dash, car turns off, car turns over, happends again, etc - eventually dies)

Adam yer its kool Purge solenoid valve is what i was looking at that was clicking aswell and i am getting the clicking under the dash aswell so im thinking your on the right track Russian i will have a look to see how much these are and get back onto here.

But i think it was on the left hand passenger side footwell.

Yer well thats what had 2 be replaced last time the ECU but would the ECU be making a clicking sound and this is the 2nd ECU wouldnt it be strange to have the exact same problem a few months after getting another one.

i know it isnt impossible

Ok i got another 1 of these Fuel Control Units in my garage which i got outta a wrecked TR i had.

Im going to put that in and give it a go.

But i was told today if it wasnt working it wouldnt click is this true?

And yes the Check Engine Light Comes ON.

The exact same thing you described is what happened to mine when the fuel relay died, it actually got me from keilor downs VIC to footscray (13.3 km – about 24 mins)
where I got it repaired) later on they told me that I was lucky as it died when they went to re-start my car to take into the service centre!

Change it and see what happens!!!!!

Yer but my car is working now its like so far it has happened twice once while i was driving and i pulled over and turned the car off started her and went on my way like normal and then 3 days later in my riveway while i was warming her up.

hasnt happened since that was a week ago 2day the 1st time.

since i reconnect that loose pipe from the valve that was clicking that has a pipe goes to the TB it seems to be all good.

Dunno weather to change the fuel relay or not.

I hate relays i had my central locking unlock relay go and i had no door locks that was fun.
