Hi guys i have a leak in the pasanger side in the foot area. It appears (rather is ) to be leaking from the windscreen run off.

Has anybody had this problem before and if so how much has it cost to repair. I did try the search button but after 5 pages didn't get very far.

how do you know if its the windscreen? Could well be a seal, but you should also consider heater matrix. These are prone to leaking in 3rd gens. Not a cheap fix if you cant fix yourself either...

does it smell a lil.. funky?
like not what you would expect rain water runoff to smell like?

if its greenish in colour esp (or red depending the colour colant you run :P) then its the heater core.
800bucks or more - and 9 / 10, its just a 2dollar seal thats let go!

Give Windscreens O Brien a ring and ask them about it, they might come out and remove your windscreen and have to re-do the seals on it.

Highly unlikely, removing a windscreen in one piece is nigh-on impossible from the information I have (it is a few years old now, things may have changed)

It's only like $250 for a new one to be installed anyway, couldn't hurt to give them a call and see what they think of it.

been covered before if the rubber seal has crumbled where it touches the windscreen buy a new plastic cover and seal. to check remove the plastic part thats between the bonnet and windscreen and tip water in there.

Had the same problem when I bought my Verada. The things I was told to check were
1) If you take out the plastic splash guard in the left hand wheel arch, there is a gigantic rubber grommet for all the wiring that goes from the engine bay into the car. On my car the grommet itself was tight, but where the wiring fed through the centre of it there is a 2nd rubber grommet that is supposed to be wrapped around the wires and fit snugly into the centre of the larger grommet. This had slipped out, or been dragged out by someone playing with the wires and was causing part of my problem.
2) On top of the intake for the demister fan (buried under the plastic sh*t on the plenum chamber) there is a plastic cover with foam rubber seals that stops windscreen run-off from getting into the fan air intake, these break-down with age and can let water into your fan, this can in turn let water into the car though the fan (apparently. I replaced the seals and this didn't help me, but could be your issue).
3) Someone else on the site told me that it could be a rubber grommet that apparently lives behind the glovebox somewhere.......don't believe this, the rubber grommet of which he spoke eludes me to this day.
4) If both 1 & 2 fail, i can put you in touch with a guy who claims to be a panel beater, his answer was to pull the panels off (L/H guard I beleive, but I didn't ask too many questions) and - his words not mine- "Spray a sh*tload of sound deadener all over everything that wasn't exposed" then put the panels back on and, as sad as that dodgy explanation is, I have not had a drop of water on the floor since that day.

Everybody tried to tell me it was the windscreen, there is no way in hell that the windscreen had anything to do with it. I could see where the water was entering the car, if you pulled back the carpet and sone a torch up behind the glovebox the water started coming in below the top of the dashboard line, way below the windscreen. The water would pool in the footwell and run to the back footwell as well. If I left it longer than a day or 2 it would start to get that delightful stagnant water smell about it. Had it fixed at Christmas time and haven't had a problem since. Of course the number of reputable repair people willing to open fire with a putty gun without checking for a reason for the leak may be low, but I managed to find a dodgy, useless, uncaring one without too much trouble. And he only charged me $100 for the priviledge. I've had a look, expecting to find overspray throughout the engine bay, but he seems to have confined his wall of sound deadener to hidden cavities within the car.

Yeah I do tend to bang-on a bit, you can ignore nearly 90% of what I write though. I waited for mine to fix itself, I got sick of waiting after a couple of months and had to get it fixed.

thanks for the info guys, the car goes in for a service next week, so i will just ask the dealer then to inspect it, i have had a look and could possibly the seals around the bottom of the windscreen.

The water leaks in just near the bottom right hand of the passenger side door. Where there is a whole heaps of cables.

If its red your whole cooling system would of crapped itself by now. Only use green coolant.

im with Lorlorpy on this one. i had the same problem of water leaking into the passenger side footwell when it rained. we tried alot of things before some guy at mitsu spare parts noticed that the grommet thing in the wheel arch side firewall was missing so he popped a new one in for like 5 bucks. i dont remember any water getting in after that.

The grommet is easy to get to, just take the plastic splash guard out of the left wheel arch and it's right in front of you. I guess you could just use black silicone to seal it up rather than trying to replace the grommet (you have to remove all the wires to get the ba$tard out). You won't see it once the splash guard is back in anyway. If thats the problem then its a $5 fix.

Got the leak fixed today when i had the car serviced, cost me $25 for teh labour and they didn't charge me for the part :D.

Basically where the second grommet i sthat every body has been talking about, i had none, so it had either fallen loose or came out when running amp cables through. Thanks for your help guys.

hi guys,
im having the same sort of problem with my 96 ke verada, basically when it rains or goes in the carwash or something, the drivers side footwell gets water pooled up in it. i have taken all the black plastic stuff off from under the widscreen wipers and have noticed that it only happens when water is poured into the drivers side runoff channel. just wondering if its the same thing with the grommet under the splash guard in the wheel arch or something else. if any one can help id much appreciate it.

thanks.

For anyone needing a windscreen do not go to windscreen obrien as they will rip you blind. Dont pay more than 165 for a new screen

Mine was leaking when it rained. When i checked the invoices I got with the car, there had been a warranty replacement done at mits years back, they missed the sealant on the top left of the screen and glued the roof lining to the screen..... Got a new screen fitted properly and replaced the roof lining with a new one from the mits parts clearance centre, all looks good now and no leaks

Also be wary of the grommets, this was a known issue years back as several cars seemed to be missing them, I have replaced these on many a magna in the past
