I have read a million threads on various mufflers all having their positive and negative points. I have three options.

Ralliart used but almost new 150ish
Redback used 190ish
Lukey LR2779 brand new 210ish

Any opinions including:
performance gains
sound gains
general comments

I have a Tuffy muffler, its basically a VRX/Sports straight through jobbie. Sounds bloody nice once warmed up. Engine revs harder now too

Go with the LR2779,built for magna engines by Walker and the masses that use them on here havent got a bad thing to say about them, except that they are maybe a tad too quite!

The redback is the most free flowing muffler you have listed there, therefore the loudest . Then the lukey and the ralliart are pretty similar except the lukey may be a touch louder. They will all be pretty similar performance wise.

Ok, cool, next question;

Will murderweapon's redback fit my TL, model says it will fit up to TJ but I can't see how it would be too different.

TL's is different due to the Factory cat, the TL units are longer hence the intermediate pipe is shorter.

I was just going off what has been said around here about them being about that from supercheap. Haven't actually followed it up yet. Will do tomorrow or Friday though.

yeah its from supercheap, it might vary a tad depending on how much frieght they decide to charge you (usually 5-10 at most)

The mufflers will all bolt straight on to the stock piping.

Have you considered magnaflow?

can't say I have, what are they worth? what makes them better than the others?

Magnaflow's are pretty expensive though arent they? being stainless steel and all? And what i meant by my previous comment is the Intermidiate pipe not the rear muffler assembly.

yeah, magnaflow mufflers are reasonably expensive- if it's worth it really depends on if u really want to spend that much more.. a magnaflow muffler for my car is approx $250 while a redback high flow muffler was about $190-$200

just remember prices will vary from cars, and the magnaflow mufflers i know sound good on my car

how would the sound of just a magnaflow muffler differ from the sound of the redback system such as the one on ebay? I am pretty keen to get the redback, but I want a nice deep note.

the bolt on part no is AL4-5597 which is from the rear flange to the end, it has a LR2779 box in it. Also remember to get a new gasket as well which are about 3 bucks.

ive had so many different mufflers on so many different magnas...

the only thing i fit now is magnaflow.. there expensive but sound far better than anything else ive had.. and yes ive had redback AND lukey LR2799 and neither of them come close to the sound of the magnalow...

theyre quiet when cruising.. amazing when booting it.. very deep, crisp sound..... ive had 3 magnaflows on 3 different 3rd gen's now.. fantastic mufflers

i have a berklee now and it is very quiet.
only problem is when i boot it, its still a bit quiet.
performance gains will all be about the same.

but for the berklee i only paid $180 fitted for mine,
and it was designed for magnas.

If you already have a VRX/Sports exhaust, is it worth it installing a Lukey or Magnaflow muffler? Will it feel much different?

Just wonderin cause I pick up my VRX on sunday and wondering if it'd be worth the while tinkerin with the zorst.

Won't make any difference to performance. The only difference will be the note.

VRX rear muffler is damn close to the LR2799 lukey so thats a huge waste of money

magnaflow

i pulled my ralliart magnas's rear muffler off and put a magnaflow on and never looked back

why i like the vrx\lukey muffler is because its not loud when cruising along and sounds nice when booting it. I asked an exhaust place about the magnaflow and they said it would be too loud...they recommended a redback... is the magnaflow actually quiet when cruising? I'm looking for one that sounds deep & refined like from a prestige car.. I don't want an exhaust to sound like ricers farting along everytime it moves...

the magnaflows give out a nice deep note when booting it
they do give a nice quiet note when cruising
much louder then stock but not too loud ;)

Does anyone have part numbers for the Redback and the Magnaflow?

vegas18

Just got quoted $195 (supplied and fitted) for a universal lukey setup that is exact same as the AL and LR that most have but with a smaller body for a louder note, power gains are listed as exactly the same as the other parts.

Sound good?

It does if you want the louder note.

What a couple have said about the LR2779 and AL4-5597 having the same muffler though is inaccurate, the AL4-5597 is slightly smaller and slightly louder than the LR2779. Lost count of how many times I've had to say that after people claim they're the same..

Yeah sorry, I knew that, got a bit excited when I said "exact" same, I was reffering more to the power gains then the actual set-up etc. Thanks man.

I think magnaflow is the go also.
I have one on the way from usa as we speek #14805 twin 3.5" tip they are by far the best i've come accross for note.

Check it out on youtube for 14805 to get a rough idea.

not sure for the magna's, but for my car it is the go if ur after some form of a gain from just a muffler replacement; and it gives a very nice, throaty sound- even with a stock setup (but that could possibly be because of the standard hot dog resonator right before the muffler.. lol)

Hey Lugo....If you want a throatier exhaust that doesnt drone, would you go the LR2779 or the AL4-5597?

From what I had heard, I thought the LR was a bit more roarty while the AL was the quieter muffler - like a toned down LR?

I cant stand droning at Freeway speed.....

From what ive heard/seen the AL4 has a smaller body, which means less area for muffling really, the LR has the bigger body and therfore should quieter than the bolt on AL style,so this should be the pick of the crop IMO

this is my first 3rd gen its a TE and does turn heads.. i just brought a varex cannon it has a 2.5" inlet 7" body and 4" tip complete crome polishied from exforce wich has the remote butterfly to quieten her down when needed... go on you tube and look it up .. i havent fitted it yet as im looking for a cat back exhaust to completeto build...

ps for the tool who runs my local muffler center ( GET STUFFED ) mandrel bent is far better than a press bent system and as for paying $400 just to line your pocket ,your
