it looks silly to us

the americans have a different style taste, they are all about the big and flashy, hence the massive ugly (to us) chromies on all the cars. they even release stock models with flashy chrome rims

down in aus, our style is more subtle and blends in with the cars lines and colors.

then you have the jap-racer style with wings/stickers/fibre glass everywhere. which they love to death, but we bag the hell out of if we see that on our streets

The reason they like massive rims with big dish is because it reminds them of the size of the dinner plates they eat off:bowrofl:

I went down that avenue but had to spend 4k and lift the car up so i could turn the front wheels.. it was all too hard...:P

looks the goods, but only if you like travelling in a straight line.

like you said, you have to raise it up to turn the wheels, and then you'd lose the effect and get the same look the seppos have. not worth it.
