Looking at replacing the rear antenna of my Verada, I took it apart over the weekend, the mast fiberglass 'wire' is broken and the motor is buggered too so need a whole new setup.
There are kits to suit 3rd gen magnas, should i use one of those or use this universal kit?
There are 3 wires on the universal kit, (One for ground, one for up, one for down) But the one on my magna also has another 3 on the side of the retraction unit - i think they might be to sense the position or something for when it's set to halfway. I want to have full functionality so not really sure if this universal one is going to work and they had no 3rd gen ones for me to look at......
Anyone know what those extra 3 wires are for?
Pics of the universal kit from Super Cheap, $80-odd i think.....

ya might want to look at adding a switch so you can put the antenna down when not in use, most set ups the antenna goes up when ever the car is on.
the whole reason i got my auto antenna was so it looks better, seeing as though i never use it.

Yeah my car has a switch under the stereo for half way or full way..... I also have a sensor wire that was out of the old standard stereo (now wired into the new one) that tells the antenna to go up or down.....
Thanks to mcs_xi for the PMs, it looks like I will have to use a genuine mitsu antenna if I want the button functionality, otherwise I can just isolate and use the sensor wire for full up/down.
Anyone know how much a mitsu one is? Or whether the 3rd gen ones will work in my car?

Are you sure the motor is buggered? What happened to it?

Did you look at the Aerpro book there to see what you can and cant use?

Can't get the motor to work....... Tried taking it apart and cleaning the bushes, cleaned all the contacts - still no work. Can't figure out why.
So anyone know if the 3rd gen one will work in my car?
Anyone know the rough price of a new one from Mitsu or will I have to call them in the morning.
I CAN use an aftermarket one (such as the AERPRO) but I would rather have the half button working so its like the way the car came new........

I'd try the wreckers then mate, good chance the motor will be fine, though the mast might still be bent, but thats an easy and cheap fix, search some previous posts by me on antennas or PM me.

Already tried them, very hard to find a 2nd gen with an antenna as I think only some of the radas had them.
Can anyone confirm if a 3rd gen antenna will fit?

Hey Pete,
Just get an auto generic one.... wire it up and it'll do...I've done heaps.... on toyota's haven't done a mitso one (yet) but they are all pretty much alike.
Genuine mitso ones are a rip off..... remember them being over the $250 mark.... ages ago..
If you're careful wiring it up... (Maybe copy how the original one was hooked up) it should do the trick.

Yeah but I need one that will work with the halfway button...... it needs more wires than just positive, negative and up/down sensor.
I will have a look at the kits at supercheap and see what I can do......

I'm looking for one as well, i have a TR Elite and while the motor is working the antenna will not go up or down on it's own. i haven't had a chance to pull it apart yet, hopefully i can fix it.
if it can't be fixed i'll need a new one.
so let me know if anyone finds some prices for a replacement. and yes, i want the half way button to work.

You can possibly just add a new mast, sound like the fiberglass cord has snapped.......
