I've already posted on the MEA forums, but I'd like to get as many opinions as possible...

I'm starting a new installation, and this time I'm not going to have a sub. I've already decided on the headunit (Clarion DXZ786USB) and front splits (Focal 165K2P), but now I need to decide what to get for adequate midbass to put in the rear parcel shelf.

I've cut it down to two options:
- Focal 165KBE (bass extension kit). This would then mean that I would buy the whole 165K3P setup. These midbass drivers are rated at 100wrms/200w peak and they come with additional crossovers so I could run them actively.

- DDW6.5 (150wrms/400w peak). I really liked my DD 3512 sub in my last install, which is why these seem like quite a credible comparison.

All these speakers would be getting power from a Rockford Fosgate T600-4 or DD C4B amp. So I'm asking if anyone has heard either of these midbass drivers in action, and if so, what's your opinion??

Personally, I haven't heard either in a car (yet), and I'm leaning towards the DD's because the Focal 165K2Ps should provide me with plenty of clarity and adequate midbass. I just need that little extra for lower frequencies.

Have you perhaps considered a 6.5inch or 8inch subwoofer?

Never used or seen either of those, I would just stick Morel 9inch 3ways in my car if I was to take out the subwoofer

I know its not what you asked but Pioneer TSC17PRS. I have these running high passed at 50hz with 125wrms on tap to each speaker. they have very impressive mid bass!!! and a very clean topend

Just ask Tim, he is ( or has ) put them in the door. No problem at all if you make an MDF baffle to mount them on. Ideally a Morel 3 way set run actively would work really well.

i agree we are just doing an evo 9 with the full range of prs bar the headunit, i love the sound of the prs gear,

the prs 6.5inch drivers with the 5 1/4 splits sound awesome as the 5 1/4 are really vocal imo and the 6'5 have nice bass
