I'm no expert...
so just wondering does fitment of pacemaker headers require removal of
the sprintex manifolds?
thanks!

No

If you are fitting pacies, I highly recomend you get your exhaust guy to make up a 2.5" or larger flex pipe section. The factory flex pipe/setion is 2.25", kinda defeats the purpose of having pacies and a larger diamater CAT/cat-back system.
In fact I just went from 2.5" to 3" flex pipe section, so my system is now 3" from headers to CAT, then 2.5" cat-back (I'm also Sprintex'd). Butt dyno suggests it goes noticeable better now, though the old flex pipe might have had a leak in it, and I reserve judgement till I see some numbers - the buttdyno aint to be trusted, especially after you've spent money:P

:)
ok now have to look around to see who can fit pacey & make that 2.5" flexpipe at a good price in Perth. I don't intend to change the rest of the exhaust.
With TW, the pacemaker is not standard fit anymore due the longer cat convertor rite?
So I guess it needs a shorter flexpipe than standard I'm guessing.
Anyone in Perth with TL/TW installed the pacemakers onto stock exhaust sytem?
then I can just go to that workshop :)

The pacemakers will still be a standard fit, its the pipe from cat back that are shorter in the TL/TW due to a longer cat.

ahh thats great!
you just had yours fitted with no problems?
does it drive a bit better now anyway?

no its actually before the cat that is shorter
after comparing my headers to my old mans headers (TJ) the bit of pipe after the flex-pipe is shorter in the TL's
the headers i have awaiting to be fitted to my car are a straight bolt up to a TJ, but will not fit my TL unless it is cut down

:stoopid:
Mine is 2.5" all the way (flex pipe, high flow cat, 3 resonators, muffler and all intermediary piping)

hmmm... strange i have pacemakers fitted in May and they bolt up perfect, they even have to cut the metal off the engine pipe (the most restrictive section) and kept the flex pipe only. I have a picture of it at the bottom of the car. I wouldn't say it drive all too much better... bit more torque...nothing too flash, perhaps when I do more work to the engine and have a piggyback, it will all tie up together nice, each mod complimenting each other to run more effectively.

Roberto: what brand headers are you fitting?
If its RPW then I think those are longer because they were made to bolt onto the TJ
to avoid the cutting and welding of the pacemakers? *shrug* not sure on this one.
The Pacemakers maybe shorter because the standard fitment requires cutting
10mm infront of the flexpipe and welding?
see here: http://www.pacemaker.com.au/FittingInstructionPDF/PH%209370.pdf
Boozer: Just confirming again... Pacemakers fitted TL with no problems on yours?
EDIT: Perfect! thats standard fitment for the TL. Thanks for the photo Boozer.
Yeah I don't expect any big gains, i've had them done on my old TJ and it felt slightly easier to rev.

Chisholm: from the looks of that Boozer's photo, does that mean the restrictive part is gone?
or was it the flexpipe itself that is 2.25"?
:)

yeah i've got a set of RPW race headers awaiting fitment
i forgot that the paccies didnt come with a flex-pipe like the RPW ones do

From memory the whole bit is 2.25". But someone correct me if I'm wrong, I havn't seen my stock exhaust for years. I still have it lieing around, if I get around to it, I'll pull it out and have a look.

i would say the flex pipe would be a tad restrictive if it is 2.25" as its a small section of the entire exhaust system, but the metal piping infront of the flex pipe is the most restrictive part as it as 2 pieces of metal welded on the top of the pipe and one at the bottom of the pipe, which is suppose to direct the exhaust gases from the front and the rear manifold through the bend pipe to meeting together in the flex pipe. I don't know how to describe it apart from imagine a dividing plate running down the middle of the pipe which is in the front section of the engine pipe.

Yer the flex is only 2.25". When i had my pacies fitted the guy said that I should get it replaced somewhere down the line with a larger flex pipe. I told him i would probably do it when I got my catback.

You could look at a set of Hurricane Extractors, longer primaries then the pacies, bigger diameter piping (1 5/8 compared to 1 1/2) and comes with a 2.5inch flex pipe as well i think (ill check that by EZboy but i think he did say it did) and they are around same money as pacemakers as well.

The flex is 2.25" the piping to the cat is 2.25" and the cat is 2.25" inlet, the outlet of the cat is almost 2.5" reason for that it's metric piping

thanks
so basically its all 2.25" after the headers,
might save that upgrade for later just do headers first.
no idea where to get hurricane headers in perth,
i'll make a few calls and see whats the price difference between the two.

The restrictive part is pretty much everything from the pacemaker flange to the cat.
Boozer: what you are talking about is the heat shield, it has nothing to do with the flow of the exhaut gasses.
As you can see in the pictures below the pacemaker flange is pretty much dead in line with the standard flex pipe.

what i was talking about what is known as "directional plates", they are plates that run within the engine pipe section (from when the manifold merge into 1 pipe to the start of the flex pipe), that section so happens to have heat shields as well.
