View Full Version : Bendix General CT
Just installed these pads on all 4 corners, very impressed with initial bite! Not sure what they are like fade-resistant wise, but they seem MUCH better than the almost-dead DBA pads I had on there before.
Anyone had any experience with these?

Yeah i had them on all 4 corners before i got my 380 conversion, very good pad and minimal dust and noise, i didnt get them to fade but then again i did not track them, it takes quite a bit for a pad like these to fade and street driving wont get them to that point i believe

what are they worth? I'm due for at least fronts.
EDIT: Found it in another thread, looks like they can be had for $59.95 or $50 on sale.

Yep I got em happy with mine too, had them on for a while now, probably due for a change.

yeah i have them with DBA slotted rotors up front and stock rotors rear. They stop well and i havent had any probs with them at all. I will buy them again when i need new ones, which is probably the best recommendation i can give them.

Don't wanna trash u guys, but the Generals are ok for, wll, general performance. I have them now, regret wasting money, will go back to Utlimates or similar soft (dusty) pads next. Who want's to buy lil used pads from me...? :D

Yeah the ultimates are great as well, but im kind of over the noise and being that i dont track the car/ tow i feel that i dont really require them so to speak.

me too, although if you have your window up and your music to a moderate level, not too loud, you can't really hear the brakes squeal, i just feel sorry for the people outside the car that can hear it... sounds terrible

I've got DBA slotteds all round and ultimates all round and they pull up pretty good, resistant to heat fade and can bite hard if need be. But they are dusty and squeal a bit.
Brake squeal may be the result of:
Heat cracked or unevenly worn discs
Rough finish on machined discs
Loose fitting brake pads in the brake calipers
Lack of brake grease on back of brake pad
Missing springs or vibration shims that should be on the caliper or pad
Improper tightening sequence of lug nuts or caliper hardware
Contamination on the brake pad i.e. brake fluid
Failure to champfer the edges of the brake pad when changing pads but not discs
So check that your brakes are properly installed and that everything is tightened up.
I've actually got some Wurth Stop Brake Squeal spray at my work that I'm going to try out. Not sure if the Wurth stuff is available in store but the CRC Disc Brake Quiet should be.

just drove home down parramatta road so they got a good workout. Overall very happy with these pads and I highly reccomend them to anyone wanting to upgrade from stock pads

All this is true, however also what type of pad material used can play a part to noise as well

Also had Bendix Generals on my Verada, was very pleased with them.
Not happy with whatever the mechanic put on my TL last week  Going back there this week to get them changed, squeaky as all hell and they don't perform that well.

So from what I can establish so far: The Ultimates are good for really heavy duty applications but are a bit annoying for daily 'spirited' driving and the Generals are an excellent upgrade to the stock pads.
Is this about right?
yeah kieran thats a fair assumption. Chick in repco even said the same things this arvo. Unless towing or doing trackwork, stick with the generals
If you guys arn't scared of the usual HI-PO brake dust, LUCAS are about the best bang for buck pads going.
Probably $75 dollars for the fronts and less for the rears of a 3rd gen, and a lot more useful than the metalic based ultimates.
Ultimates are not really hi-po pads, they are kinda just tow pads for heavy cars. Also not being a passive pad they tend to chew out rotors to stop, where as softer performance pads disapate heat by dusting and are much more friendly to expencive rotors.

Sweet, its time for new pads (and rotors, and calipers and lines  ) So Generals it is I guess
whats with the new rotors, calipers and lines? group buy?
I get all my rally stuff from here, very cheap and prompt service.
http://www.gslrallysport.com/shop/
He will ship it for much less than a local place can supply, rotors and pads for any car.

Nah my sheer ignorance has caused the rotors to become deeply gouged after the pads wore down and Ive decided to completely upgrade the front end with 380 calipers DBA slotted and braided lines. The stock setup scares the crap out of me lol

The calipers are coming brand-new from Mitsubishi, the rotors will come from whoever is cheapest (I have the local Autobarn on standby as well as getting a quote from the guys that Roy has suggested) and the lines will probably come custom made from a local shop here in TSV. Oh and im getting a price for the pads from the same guys as the rotors.

When i rang and asked the spare parts department they were $240 a side, but im yet to ask the guy i know that works there. Im hoping his price will be a little better. This is just for the fronts BTW, im not even bothering with the rears.
yeah just fronts will be eye-socket-detachingly good. heard great things about 380 calipers on magnas. $240 a side isnt too bad i guess. $200 would be easier to swallow
What sort of calipers are they? Sliding twin pots or something similar?

Some form of Twin pots I believe. I also understand that they are made from aluminum.
And aside from any performance advantages, they also look awesome with the DBA's behind them  well I think so anyway
