I know it's best to get new shocks when getting your car lowered but I was just wondering as the title states, how low can you go without replacing or badly wearing the shocks prematurely on a stock TL with 19 inch rims? (I've checked quite a few threads but I can't remember the amount of lowering.)

Currently, my car is obviously sitting quite high and I was wondering if I could get away without replacing the shocks. My car has been recently serviced and the shocks seem fine.

Also, how low do you have to go before you need an adjustable camber kit? When I got my 19 inch rims from Bob Jane, they said that they couldn't adjust the camber, is that right?

My front wheels are slightly outside of the wheel guards (about 1cm) but the guys at Bob Jane said that's not a problem. What do you guys think?

I'm either gonna get the 30mm or 45mm lowered king springs.

Any replies would be much appreciated.

Provided the rims are the correct offset and correct tyre used, you can run 45mm on old shocks no issues, And yeah you cannot adjust the camber without a bolt kit from Whiteline, but yeah bad shocks are baddddd mmmmkkkkkay and new uprated springs will make it even worse, not to mention it will wear your tyres out quicker.

So is it recommended to get a camber kit when getting a car lowered 45mm?

Also, I live on the south coast of NSW and I was wondering where is a place or places where I can get springs, shocks and a camber kit for my TL?

Yeah it is reccomended, so you dont chew the insides of your tyres out, but yeah any decent Auto shop will be able to get hold of KYB's Whiteline and King springs, those 3 are the most used and reccomended combo for magnas.

This guy on eBay was selling 2 pairs of any type of King Springs (30mm, 45mm and 60mm) for $277. He said that after you have made payment, tell him what King Springs you were after and he would send them out. I was wondering is $277 a good price for 2 pairs?

$277 is what i paid for my full set of king springs.
I'm pretty sure that's the standard price.

Btw Kings dont make 60mm for rears only Fronts and they are 50-60mm lowered (superlows)

So far I am going to get 45mm king springs, KYB shocks and a camber kit. Is there anything else that is recommended to go with these?

Wheel alignment, other then that should be fine, its exactly what i have in mine atm, no rubbing and ride height is pretty good, only scrape the Mudflaps if i drive over speed bumps too fast, But ive taken it some pretty funky places with no issues.

As a comparison i ran on my lows for 30 000 kms with stndard shocks, but after a while they began the sag, so when i put my new shocks on the car actually raised a bit because of the standard sagging, and the ride is a bit stiffer and smooother. over all i would say its not necasarry but i would suggest it.

How bad does the low springs wear the standard shocks?

after all those kms they were still ok, and 10 G of them was on superloss on the front.

Depends on the condition of them in the first place, Usually they wear a set of standard shocks 50-75% faster then standard springs, as they are working a lot harder because the uprated springs, also they have reduced travel because of them being lowered. being shocks usually last 60-80k before they are rooted usually 30k is the average.

I'd take it back, at least in Queensland it's a straight-up defect if any part of your wheel or tyre protudes past the guard.

You shouldn't have any issues with lowering though - there's plenty of clearance between the tyre and the guard on the front.

King Lows and KYB shocks are a great combination, you won't be disappointed.

i thought it was just the tyres that had to be inside the guards.... not so much any part of the rim.

If you want to do it right, throw in a castor/ anti-lift kit, plus an adjustable rear sway bar.

I checked the mod handbook and it says "The rims and tyres must not protrude beyond the
bodywork of the vehicle".

That'd be the best way to do it.... although the springs and shocks alone will make a huge difference to handling. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for weeks :D
