hey guys, not Magna related but im sure its all the same.

Starter motor in my mums car has shat itself ( 89 skyline ) so bought a second hand one. Installed it and car still wont start. Now the second hand starter is either a dud too, or there is something wrong with the car.

I want to test both starters to see if they are working.

Now, to test this thing, I would connect C to the + terminal and - to B and then just connect a wire to A and strike it against the + terminal ?

I used a multimeter and both the B's are grounded to the body of the starter so obviously A is the power on, correct ?

when i test i just use jumper leads.neg earthed to the body of the starter where it bolts to the gearbox is fine and short across A and C. IT should throw out the gear and turn.

OK thanks for that. Better safe then sorry.

EDIT:

Man wtf i feel really noobish now  I did what you said, and it didnt start so I went to the wreckers and told him it wont work. He tested it out on his battery but shorted C and B and struck the neg on the body of the starter.

Now im confused. If B and the body are both ground, how does it not burn up ?

Is it possible that the motor is drawing more current than the pos and neg shorting out ? I might read up on how starters work lol.

Oh yeah re installed it and now it all works.
