View Full Version : TJ Seats Vs KJ Seats Comfort?

My TJ S2 Advance seats are rubbish. Hard as a board and make my @rse hurt after about 10 minutes.
Are KJ verada seats any more comfy, or are they just TJ seats with different covers?. I guess it comes down to the foam block underneath the cover - and if this is the same then in theory there wont be any difference in comfort.

All 3rd gens pre TL have the same seats with different covers. The KJ gets velour covers.

Damn.
Dont want to sell the Magna - so might have to visit an auto trimmers and see if they can insert a new piece of foam to protect my boney @rse!

Thats not correct. The VRX and the Veradas had a much better seat in them, im not sure about the Sports though.
When i got my VRX drivers seat it was very different to sit in, much more comfortable. The passenger seat was destroyed in the accident of the car i scavenged them from so we only managed to get the leather cover off it. Upon talking to a motor trimmer i discovered that the foam under neath the base model seats was a lot less than the VRX, it was also suggested that if a Verada seat was found that this would be suitable also.

By chance is your VRX leather seat from a Ltd Edition? VRX cloth seats (Pre TL) I thought were the same as the lower spec cars.
A mate of mine has the red leather/blk cloth Ltd edition seats and they are the same pattern as my Verada. But my old TE & the parents TJ Advance have the povofoam.
The difference between my Verada and the TJ are massive comfort & softness wise.

I'll let ya know how my KL Rada seats go for my drive from Townsville to Melbourne:P
yea my VRX has more solid seats in it than my TE Exec. really really awesome solution that beats everything else.. nice thick (high quality) sheep skin covers! ive got platinum clouds in mine, RRP about $299, and i will never own a car without them again, I dont think i could have tolerated the 2000km trips without them.

KL rada seats are good for road tripping
i can now drive from Mackay to the gold coast, and not be seat achy -tired generally, but suprisingly refreshed considering its a 11hrish drive.
just gotta get it set right.
also.. gunna sound odd here, but things like audio and climate control / aircon come into play as well too. i find if its a hot day and im too cheap to push the ac button, seats feel uncomfortable in a way.
sorry it doesnt help the TJ Vs KJ subby tho!

they are different thats why people buy them verada leather covers off ebay can't fit them on magna seats.

Agreed, my Verada was a lot nicer with the Car PC for entertainment, made long drives more comfortable and less tiring.
KJ seats are much nicer. I'm sick of people saying they're the same, as people have in the past, they're far from the same, ask people who know! So yeah, Verada seats are better :D

I went from KJ ei seats to TJ exec seats.
Didn't notice the difference...

Only one way to sort this problem out boys - gotta go test drive some TJ's and Radas back to back! That should annoy a couple of weekend sellers..."sorry mate..got a couple of more to look at..."lol

Ask Type40, he did a drive from Geelong to my place in the northern suburbs on TJ Exec seats, then back in the same car on KE Ei Verada seats, he described the Verada seats as much more comfortable and that they hold you better iirc. No better way to get an idea than that!
I've now got the KJ Ei Velour seats in my car and they were noticeably better than the KE seats.
So KJ Ei > KE Ei > TJ Exec.

So KJ Ei > KE Ei > TJ Exec.
So have you actually driven in a TJ Executive seat or are you just going off hearsay? I'd go a Mazda Bravo front bar seat any day if I could shoehorn that into a Magna! Sooooo comfy.
The spring metal on the bottom of the seats is exactly the same in KJ and TJ. The foam is of similar thickness, just with a different stitching pattern... It really all depends on how many fat asses you've had sit on your seats and compress the foam!

Driven two. An Exec and a Solara, which I dare say have the same seats. But I haven't endurance tested TJ Exec seats.

I did 800km in a day with them, on some of the worst roads you will ever encounter that are considered 'sealed'. Even with my back problems I could still walk afterward, and my ass never went numb, always a good sign lol
New Honda Civic seats on the other hand... 300km trip one way and I had a numb ass cheek and my sciatica was playing up something chronic.

I have to agree here, i do quite a lot of k's in my magna currently due to work and i have no trouble doing 1000k's + where in my old mans XR5 i can barely do 200 before my ass and back gets really sore.

I thought KJ got upgraded seats, then these seats were used in the entry level TL/TW and the KL/KW got better ones again.

Righteo... Lets settle this once and for all. I have the part number for the foam pad off TF Advance seat (drivers side and should be the same from TE to TJ) which reads... AW 347076......79017. I think the first lot of numbers are what you go off but i included the last few just incase they prove a point. Someone get an equivalent part number off a Verada and see if they match! Off you go! :D
Now, i have a very average back and i notice even the slightest difference in seat comfort and i can tell you that Verada seats are more comfortable for me than the base ones. I feel as the squab and backrest is more sculpted and the hip point is lower which makes me think they have 2 different spec pads. The differences may be the soft padding just under the upholstery but to me the changes are deeper than that. But i am more than willing to be proven incorrect!

Nice work Type 40. Part numbers should have this solved in a jiff.
Does anyone know if the cover can just be peeled off the seat foam pad - or is it glued on? I was thinking i might just swap the drivers foam with the passengers foam.
I think part of the problem is that the car was owned by a rather large gentlemen (read fat b@stard) who compressed the drivers foam excessively - so now it is like sitting on a board.

Hmm...
This is beginning to be quite subjective, as it will be as it is a matter of opinion based on someone's back problems, how old they are, what height they are, how heavy they are, muscle bulk, fat content, ass cheek width and so on. This is combined with how well the seats have been treated by previous owners, how good condition the foam is in and whether the springs are in good health.

If you look at the drivers and passengers seats they are shaped differently. They are not simetrical and are opposite.

Yep, most likely to deal with the height adjustment controls I'd imagine.
I suppose MagnaByDesign would be able to help us out here.

Just go to an auto trimmer and get them to redo it the way you want. That's what i did with mine.

In theory - could i just go to Mitsi and order a Verada seat pad to replace my Advance one? (no doubt they would bend me over on the price though)
Will the verada one fit under the advance cover? That is the question.

The facts, by the guy who had to deal with the chaos which was seats. The left and right pads are handed. Cushions and backs. The pads are different for different models. There were cross overs in the styles from different models, so saying exec or verada may confuse things. The styles were called "C" "D" and "E" style. C style was the type commonly used on the execs Sports and VRX. It was the type that sort of has a square piece in the middle of the cushion and seat back. D style was mainly used on Verada. It is the long pleat type, looks a bit like a shell. E style was the same as D but for leather. The pads for leather (E) are different to the pads for cloth (D) because of the extra wadding the leather used making the seams thicker, so the grooves in the pads were deeper and wider to account for that.
As for the seat pad density. Firstly having a fat ass sitting in the seat does affect the feel over time. The density of the pads varied over the build life TE-TL. There was also dual density foam used in some seats. There is quite a lot of variation over the full model life between build years and spec levels. It was a friggin nightmare to keep track of. Dont ask me what each were, as I dont have access to the drawings anymore, so I cant tell you which ones were the best. Seems everyone has a different preference for hard and soft anyway.

Short answer....no it wont. Hogging ring slots are totally different, plus shape etc etc.
