Picked up these babies for $300!, including a full set of nuts and locking nuts They have ok tread but I took it for an alignment this morning as my steering wheel is shaking when I go over 80km/h........ Looks like i need at least 2 new tyres.

Booked in for two new tyres at $110 a pop from a tyre guy down the street and getting an alignment and the camber checked etc.

What do you think of the latest addition? I think my orange indicators that I love so much have to go and I think the next thing to do is chrome the grille like Rogue_Streak has done.... Where do I get the stick on chrome stuff from, supercheap????

Haha, I like my grandpa-stripes for the moment!

Springs are from dianese, fronts are Pedders lowest, backs, not sure about but yeah from a 3rd gen. They are black so could be anything but the back end is TIGHT AS around corners, and as you can see, a bit of wheel tuck, so very happy with them. Will keep these tyres for now, can i get these whitewalled or do I need to buy new tyres for that?

Rims are in perfect condition, I can't find a single scratch!!!! "It's a deal, it's a steal, it's the Sale of the ****ing Century!"

As I said to yann in a pm, NFI what springs they are unfortunately..... i can only assume the rears are SL's, and maybe they have sagged a bit. Dianese didn't know either when I scored them off him.......

I think I need bump stops for the front though, I am bottoming out badly, I didn't see bump stops when I changed the springs over....... I'm not sure if I'm running out of shock absorber or if I'm hitting the road but everytime I go over a bump (BAD roads out my way) I am bottoming out pretty bad at the front. Having to do 70km/hr everywhere sucks

Edit: Might whitewall them..... would look pimp I agree.

Clear indicators are on order

Also have a voice in the back of my head telling me to ditch the wing...... what is wrong with me   Way too much AMC

jack the car up and check your springs, you'll know if your bottoming out if the coils have paint worn off..
to put new bump stops in took me 1.3 hours one side and 40 mins the other side

Yep when I changed the springs it took 2hrs for one front and 30 mins for the second one. Halfway through the first I realised I needed spring compressors (the back ones I just took off the stabiliser bar or whatever and dropped the axle low enough to get em in)

So yeah quick trip to my mechanic in my mates car with no interior or seatbelts (he was working on it at my place) with some beer and borrowed his spring compressors and we were in business. My efforts also included lowering the car onto my spring to get the compressors off as they were too hard to unwind. That was probably pretty dangerous and foolish now I think about it.......

OK Peeps just picked the car up, left wheel bearing needs adjustment and possibly replacement, and left tie rod is also buggered apparently. Kept the old wheels on for now so i don't fk the new ones driving around

I have been quoted $280 to fix those two things, should I get him to put in bump stops while he's there? Also, does this sound like a reasonable price to fix these two things?

This is going to be an expensive week

no, sounds expensive. Tie rod $50 and Bearing $30, replace them yourself, not that dificult to do. If you put your springs in, you should know how they came off and should replace the bumpstops aswell. a mechanic will charge you extra to to that because of labour...DIY is the way...then you know it's done by someone trustworthy

Yeah peter, If youve put the springs in your obvioulsy willing to give it a go, if you have a haynes or gregorys manual it should be easy for ya.

Where do I get the stick on chrome stuff from, supercheap????I did mine with chrome tape, works very well, have had it on for probably a year now with no sign of fade or peel. Think it was about $10 for a roll from Autobarn, had a heap left over. I can track down the photos of how I did it if required (was going to do a write-up, but figured it would be like one of those "look at my clear indicators" threads...)

Nah please do mate if you have time that would be great...... I had a thought, I might paint the slats white...... meh chrome is probably better, matches the parras!

RoGuE_StreaK

I might paint the slats white......Whatever you do, DON'T try to paint it chrome; just doesn't work, rapidly turns into a dull silver. I know, that's what I did originally, and especially after the amount of time I spent masking it, it's a real ****!

That's one of the beauties of the chrome tape, if you don't like it you can just rip it off and return it to stock, no marks or hassles.

Heya all, I want to do the tie rod, bearing and bump stops this weekend (I have done bearings before and I understand you should do both at the same time).

I assume I can get all this gear from Super Cheap or Repco etc?

i'd go repco mate, more likely to have the oarts you're after and they're not ridiculously priced also...

GT-Pete

Bearings:
$138 A SIDE - Repco
$100 A SIDE - Super Cheap

Bump Stops:
$50 a side - Repco
SCA Don't have them

Tie Rod End
$30 - Repco (Gunna get this today).

What do you think of these prices dudes????????? I'm sure bearings don't cost that much, apparently its because I have ABS

*Edit: And my springs do have a little bit of paint missing in the coils so the bump stops are a must ASAP

GT-Pete
19-09-2008, 05:52 AM
Ummm guys can someone please help, I was told by a mechanic in windsor that doing just the bearings is a $600 job because it has ABS and is front wheel drive, and it needs a special tool to push them in or something. I have done bearings on a Falcon before and it wasn't hard at all or expensive. I'm stressing out because costs for my car are spiralling out of control this week

All I can say is go pedders for your bumpstops cost me $25 each.
in regards to the bearings, PM madmagna, or refer to the workshop manual
