you could just bolt it in, but you would get better results with some headwork, and you will also need to tune it also, im not sure on final costs, but you could do that with the 4000

Your profile says you have an auto.... I thought RPW only recommended the stage 1 cams for autos?
manual conversion and EZ Boy's inlet manifold, cams, and tune FTW

Lenda has done it but am unsure if he is happy or not.
best to pm Lenda. he has just done this. the heads have to be removed for valve springs to be fitted and should be ported then, so a little more involved labour wise than say stage one cams which dont need valve springs or heads removed. make sure you get an ezboy plenum

Yeah 4k should get you those mods easily enough, but for autos stage 1's look more the go, ive driven BEJ1OS's car he has stage 1's with the EZ manifold and even though its a 3l it pulls hard and has a beautiful lumpy idle, i think a stage 2 might be a bit too big for around town dailys as its a fair bit larger then the stage 1's.

look at the mods i got in my profile and they go very well together! ask anyone that has been in my car drives very smoothly although idle is a bit rough, so what its like a V8. awsome fun to drive and sounds awsome. just make sure you have a good tuner.

thanks guys was thinking of an ez boy manifold later on down the track. head work???? wat kind of stuff we talking about?? expensive???? is it very nessesary?? or can this be done later on?? as valve springs have to replaced i guess it makes sense to do "head work" while the heads are off. my mechanic was talking about doing something with the "lifters" altough to tell the truth it all went over my head. something about making "collapsable lifters" i think he said as he has done this to many evo's.
also if i get my mechanic to fit the cams gears and valve springs will the car still be drivable?
i live in bathurst and was thinking if the car is drivable ill take it up to SAS in syd to get a piggy back and tune done. the only reason for this is my mechanic really looks after me in regards to labour costs.

The only problem i think you will have is that cam gears have to be dialed in so your mechanic might not be able to do this without a dyno.
and i have never heard of anyone doing/having done "collapsable lifters" B4 on a magna

Can this be confirmed??????
They do but i don't think it'd be a problem given they generally have a variance of +-6deg (12deg overall) so it's not a case of valves striking pistons in the case of low duration camshafts.
So as long as your mechanic can dial in camshafts then you'll be right to leave the gears to be adjusted when it's tuned. This would probably be happening at the same place anyway.
Otherwise just leave them in the 0deg position anyway

I'm in the middle of doing all this at the moment. The most cost effective solution for head work is to go out and buy yourself some brand new Ralliart heads at less than 150 a piece. These should then form the basis for knife edging and shaving (valve deshrouding is already done on the Ralliart heads, so the purchase price of the heads covers what it would cost for deshrouding and then some).
Leave the standard valve gear in place - you are on an expensive hiding to no-where by replacing it. But do get heavier valve springs if you go Stage 2 cams. But before all of this, get the EZBoy manifold first. There is precious little point in messing with heads and cams unless you have got basic flow right first.
And yes, your car will be driveable with fitting cams, heads and gears. But you will not get all the benefits of that work until you add a piggy back ECU and tune it. Bear in mind that fitting and tuning the piggy back will cost. Fitting and tuning my Haltech was $850, and that's a pretty normal cost. Good luck with it.

Good choice in SAS. They did the Chiptorque XEDE in my car which I found was pretty much the best unit and bang for my buck around. Looking at around 1600-1800 for that drive away

just shopping around for prices atm, are RPW the only ones who do valve springs and cam gears????

Rock up to your Mits dealer with a Ralliart VIN and 3 days later you will have pair of heads.
Re valve springs for Stage 2 cam - dunno what else is out there but there has to be something.
Re adjustable cam gears - I asked the same question a few weeks ago and one the AMCers put me onto Fidanza gears. Get em from Rocket Industries here (I checked out buying direct of Fidanza in the US, and it's actually cheaper at the mo to get em through Rocket). Half the price of the RPW and very sexy to look at.

If you want your heads flowed, valves ported etc, Just Heads in Mt Druitt were really good for me. That said if you are just buying heads you will need all the internals the suit to do a straight swap over

Correct.
And the cam gears from a 3000GT won't fit. Rockect don't carry stock of the 6G72/74 gears - you have to special order. Talk to Jason there - he did my order. I have the part number at work. If you wanna PM me I will get that to you Monday.

The part number for 6G74 SOHC cam gears in blue colour is FI961639, other colours are available and they are all made to order in the USA.
In fidanzas catalogue they are listed for use in the diamante/eclipse, they dont list them specifically for the "magna" (as we all know that the diamante is the magna/verada in the usa)
I bought mine direct from Fidanza in the USA, as A) Rocket Industries were expensive and B) they couldnt give definate delivery times other than roughly 3-4weeks.

See that's weird, Jase. Cos when I emailed Fidanza they came back with a price that - with exchange rates and postage - was gunna put a pair of gears (@$166.97USD each) above $400 landed. Compared to $115 AUD each (and yes, I kept the quote to make sure) through Rocket plus freight. Hmmmm

If you are restricted on budget, i would leave the plenum for later, as it does not involve taking your car off the road again for a few days to get the heads done. manifold fits in under an hour(plus tune), where as doing heads is days. Get them done while they are off. I would really think you would be robbing yourself of gains not to mention wasted dollars doing it mainly due to labour time taking the heads on/ off twice.

do you have another car you can drive around in for a month? might be easier to give the head mob your existing heads with the cams and other goodies and just get it all back in one hit. My heads were gone just under 2 weeks but i wasnt in too much of a rush as i was waiting for pistons.
You'll be looking at anywhere from $1000-$1600 on the heads pending on how extreme you want the work to be done

If you going to take the car off the road for a few weeks, dont buy new head castings. Save the money and put it towards the porting/flowing your current heads.

Can't recall the dude' name at Fidanza. Just kept the link to the web page, which still shows the USD price I quoted before. By chance, mine actually yesterday arv. Total price to my door in 3 weeks was $311.65, GST and all freight inclusive. And the gears were indeed $115 each plus GST, and I only paid the US freight of $40 (no local freight charged). Maybe I just got lucky (that's be a first with modifying this car lol )
