hmmm Eclispse 6x9's like in the ralliart.. very loud but are around $300 i think. For bass on a budget get the pioneer 240W 3 ways. Going for $99 at JB at the moment. Other than that i wouldnt really sweet if you plan to get a sub.

there's JL's and Cadence i saw on JB catalog today goin for 160ish or Kicker goes about the same price too at repco catalog. your choice..he..he...
Well, I have Pioneer TSD690R's running off a Pioner 5550MP HU and they produce enuf bass that I don't need a sub. On 'voice' equaliser setting (those wif a 5550MP will know what I'm talking bout) they make the back windscreen vibrate so much that everything is permanently blury. To give you an idea of their power, when I turn the volume up to 30, I can feel the bass punch through the back of my drivers seat. They were $340 @ Autobarn last time I checked.
EDIT: Oops should have said that these are 2-way 6x9's

Are the 6x9's to go into the front? If not, rather than spending your money on 6x9's why not get a decent set of 6s for the door and get some sound deadening in there? :)
..GONE..

Yeh Sufz you are correct :D Just for the time being :)
Alpine Type-R 6x9s with Alpine Type-R 6" Splits in the front!
That's what I'll be getting as the second stage of my stereo. :-)
Currently i'm running the stock speakers with...
Headunit: Alpine MDA-W900J

CD Stacker: Alpine CHA-S634

it really depends on whether your planning on putting in a sub or also whether you plan on amping the 6x9's.
if no to both of those then some reasonable pioneers do very nice for a decent price. If you plan on amping them then youll need somehting a little better. Either MBquarz, orion, Herz or indeed the alpine type R's.
I have some Orion 6x9's running of my alpine deck currently until i get an amp and they produce plenty of noise with a decent amount of base and excellent clarity.
But if you plan on putting in a sub in the near future then id recomend not getting 6x9's but rather some 6inch's or even 4" as your not going to need base in the back, and with 6x9's theyll try to compete with the subs.
Bad for SQ.
Agree with most posts. If you are going to get subs, avoid 6x9's.
If you go 6x9's you can't go past JL Audio or Eclipse, they sound awesome and give you plenty of bass. They just love being played at high volume.
I will say it here again, i would avoid pioneer for speakers, i personally just don't like them as much as the JL Audios or Eclipse at high volume. Could try Cadence as well, they are supposed to be good.
Just make sure you go into a shop and have a listen for yourself. Ignore the advice of the salesperson (as not very many companies carry JL Audio, Eclipse and Cadence in the same shop) and just see for yourself what you think sounds the best.
Cheers,
Cam.

What kind of splits do you have at the front? factory ones?
If I had factory speakers, I would firstly change the front ones for your ears, mainly because 6x9's are rear passenger entertainment, whats more important your ears or your mates :)
Ive got some Cadence 6.5" RCZ06 Splits in the front
and some Kenwood 300w 3 ways in the back both sets running off my JVC HU which sound great but could do with an amplified source.
like people have said before are you planning on getting a sub/s ?
even if you are later on down the track, im sure you would want 6x9's anyway just so the sound is evened out throughout the sedan.

I had JL Audio 6x9s in my old VL and have them in my Lancer and they're great. My mates have them and love them also. Kick the crap out of similar price Kenwoods I had in the VL before they were criminalised.
Only place I've seen them in is JB HIFI though.
the only place in adelaide i have seen them is autobarn on sir donald bradman drive.. i have seen them in auto pro port augusta, a country store. Other than that, they are hard to come by, but they sound awesome.

it amuses me when people say their 6x9s produce enough bass that they dont need a sub. I was one of these people once too, thinking my pioneer 6x9s were really bassy! .... that was until i installed got a sub :D

Lol, yeah I'm running my JL 6x9s without sub and there is no comparison, bass wise, between them and my 12" JL. Subs enhance all music.
My mate was saying to me "don't waste ur money on a sub, ur music won't sound any better" (punk/metal).
He was wrong....

DEAD wrong lol.
The 6x9's which i am running are ur good old JENSEN brand speakers. They produce pretty great sound with a fair amount of bass for 6x9's, just the way the magna lieks it lol

Love my Polk Audio EX693a 3-ways... They have lasted a good 4.5 years and are the only part left of my original stereo; they still serve well as rear-fill. They are rated at 93dB/1W which makes them excellent for low power applications.
