ok, after a week with the new exhaust i think i want to go dual.
If i go to the exhaust shop will they just remove the muffler and make something custom that splits into two?
im thinking it will only cost a couple of hundred
anyone know anything?

Dual as in muffler either side of the car? If so I'm pretty sure the muffler wont be removed. They'll just add a Y pipe either before or after the rear suspension and snake to the other side and fabricate new mounts as required.

Presuming he has the stock muffler, he'll want to have a pair of identical mufflers in the end, and dual stock mufflers would be the epitome of fail lol
But yeah, it'll be a Y pipe. I'd get the catback redone in a 2.5" that splits into a dual 2" or 2.25" diameter piping then to two reasonable straight through mufflers.

i have a redback catback exhaust and muffler
so would it be best and cheapest for me to find another redback muffler
and then they would y-pipe it from the end of the exhaust to two separate mufflers?

after the split go to 2" pipe

They will remove the Redback Rear Muffler and cut back to just before it goes over the Rear Axle, then weild up a Y piece there and run the twins on each side of the Axle and mount the New Mufflers there.
Piping size 2.5inch for Intermediate piping (up to Y piece) then 2 inch for the rest of the Piping (Still need some backpressure for NA's to work to there extent.
My system if i ever get around to buy it will be a 3inch to Y pipe with 1 Lukey Glass Pack Resonator then 2.5 piping to 2x Lukey Turbo Mufllers then 2x 3inch dumps. Simple yet being with twin mufflers shouldnt be overly loud.

yes. get another muffler the same as your current one and get a custom 2" pipe made up which splits after the rear axle to feed each muffler.
$300 tops!

Probably not no, the Inlets would be 2.5inch You require 2inch inlets, also i dont know if they can fit the same box on the other side of the car, as there isnt as much space that side and also no heat shielding either.

I'm wondering why you actually want dualies?
The only reason I ask is because if your broke, I think your pipes look pretty cool as is and they're black.. they kind of blend in don't they? Go chrome
also I remember you complaining you couldn't hear it? I was under the impression dualies didn't really increase sound as such? (thats if thats why your getting them) But correct me If I'm wrong... wouldn't the flow just be distributed between the two?

the sound is getting louder, i didnt think it would because its second hand but it is which is good, and i think the dualies may increase the sound a little
and yeh i dont want chrome hanging out the back
i like to be different
and i think the black looks pretty sweet
and yes im broke
which means i will need to save for about a month
i did originally want dualies but changed my mind, and now ive gone back to wanting them
the dualies will look pretty mad and aggressive

Broke? Sell your body on the streets!
I'm actually thinking of going black (in the exhaust sense), looks good, will suit the darker shades of cars
Will be interesting to see this when your done!
Good luck

why 2 pipes? wont make you go faster - just makes it a buzz box and attracts the boys in Blue and the boys in khaki (EPA).

if you want to keep the same muffler (i.e. save some $$$), it shouldn't be a big deal to put a 2" pipe into a 2.5" muffler. I would keep it at 2" unless you're going for forced induction.
as far as space goes, there's more than enough room on both sides to fit any normal sized muffler. yes, there's no head shielding on the left side, but come on... how hot does a rear muffler really get?

I thought they were legal as long as they were past the B pillar? or is it past the most rearward doors?

Think it's past the most rearward opening windows, hence why you see old tonners with pipes just before the wheels.

Duel exhausts imo are the way to go for looks. but bear in mind that by adding the other exhaust you will loose power most likely. i get asked that about my quads all the time, how much more power does it make but it actually has more power when the two on the passengewr side are blocked.
just another thing to consider.

the side exit exhaust rule only applies to commercial vehicles that are registered for commercial use. Any other vehicles are not allowed to have the exhaust exiting out the side under any circumstances, if you see a privately owned ute with side pipes then he will be booked sooner or later.
Also running a split system will be quieter than single with the same mufflers on.

That is why you need proper dual exhaust system that extend from the secondary pipes. Each secondary pipe is joined onto its own cat and after the cat, the two pipes have an H joint between them. The two pipes then join onto two resonators and two mufflers.
Apparently the H pipe after the cat add a lot more power and torque than without it.

there's no room to run split pipes the length of the car.
I'll have to block up one side next time my car's on the dyno to see if there's any difference in power.
interesting...

the lack of power
the reduction in noise
the attention from the police and EPA
are all starting to make me change my mind
maybe ill leave this mod to later and see if in a few months i still want it.
because face it, im only doing it for looks

That made no immediate sense lol
I considered dualies for a little while, then I decided I was better off not pissing my money into my car after already having a muffler on it... Just didn't make sense to do it.

http://i493.photobucket.com/albums/rr296/DeeVann/P050808_1704.jpg
(Sorry, best pic I have at the moment)
Not the best setup... it's just a T-pipe coming off of the main exhaust just after the rear axle. Good enough for me though... My muffler on the drivers side is a VRX muffler. Unfortunately there isn't enough room on the other side to fit another, so I had a smaller Lukey straight through muffler fitted. They don't sound exactly the same, but I can't notice unless I stick my ear right next to each exhaust.
I'm not sure what people are talking about with it being quieter though... It's definitely louder, but still doesn't drone... gives a really refined sound above 2000rpm. Can't hear it inside the car below that. Still sounds like a car that had it done from factory, which is exactly what I wanted.

If you imbalance the mufflers like that, you're going to get the gasses flowing predominately toward the muffler that imposes the least restriction, which renders the other muffler redundant really...

Without a doubt it's imbalanced, but exhaust gases still come out of both, both still make a noise, and it gave the look/sound I was looking for. Both are straight through mufflers, so I doubt the difference in restriction imposed is very significant. But I'm no mechanic/engineer... work was done by a well respected exhaust workshop here in Adelaide, and they said it would be fine.

Yeah I'm not saying it'll damage it or decrease performance in any way, I'm hinting that you could have gotten away with a cheaper single tip option at some stage. Anyway, the point of dualies really is that they look good (some of them at least) and yours certainly do, mmm yum.

Oh yeah, I should point that out for the OP/anyone else looking at doing this mod (at least the way I have done it) - it doesn't make the slightest difference in performance (in my experience) unless you would actually be upgrading the stock executive muffler to a straight through one. Oh, and a proper custom split system would probably make a difference in performance too, but I didn't look into this option, as I wasn't after performance with this mod.
