hmmm 2nd time this problem has shown its face!
Last time i was heading home from the drags after giving the car a good ol' flooging, the check engine light flashed on for 20 seconds, then off and back on for 20 seconds and never saw it again.
Anyway last night i was having a bit of a spirited drive home for almost 10 minutes, and the light flashed at me for a second, doing it twice with about a 30 second gap.
Any ideas what could possibly be causing it? its been almost 2 months since i saw this problem

my engine light comes on at certain times because of the MAF, as my Rotrex is before the MAF.... and when i come off the throttle so the butterfly in the TB closes it creates alot of pressure as I need a bigger/custom made blow off valve..
However in your case could it possibly be because of the o2 sensor reading something other than factory? does it mainly do it when your cruising after you have been driving hard?

1st time it was when i was cruising home after the drags, last night i think it happened on a long down hill off throttle with high revs after a good 5 minute flogging. It could well be the O2 sensor being retarded

yeah its hard to say with our cars cuz we're using stock airflow sensors with this whinning thing churning a whole lot of extra air through...
see if you can make it happen again. however it does sound similar to what mine does.. could even be a slightly lean mixture because of the vacuum off throttle..

does the check engine light come on with low oil level/pressure?
if so is it possible that with the continued spirited driving/higher rev range usuage that oil isnt flowing back to the sump as quickly as its being sucked by the pump? There are many japanese performance engines which suffer this issue and the magna motor is far from performance orientated although yours is catapolted into that category with that blower...
Just from nissan, the CA18 and RB26 engines suffered from this problem where oil supply was not the issue, but running low on oil from pumping faster then oil return to the sump.
Doesnt really fit your first scenario but is a possibility for the 2nd

I've had it happen also.
A few months ago I noticed on my way back from Wakefield that the check engine light was flashing on and off for 20 mins or so.
Couldn't find anything wrong with the car, and it never came back, so I didn't worry. My bet is it's something to do with the Sprintex though.

You guys are lucky you don't have a 380, it'll come on everytime you sneeze with mods. I just ordered a OBD2 scanner so I can diagnose the probs myself.

Mine was on 24/7 with aftermarket ECU... It now makes a great shift light..:)

TZABOY, have you checked the ECU for fault/error codes yet?

There is a 2nd light for oil pressure..

what about gearbox temp?
but i thinks you got some unburnt fuel on the 02 that picks up a fault and then burns off.... becoming ALL good again.

Nah the stock oil pump flows fine, afaik dave still has the stock sump/oil pump in his TT. Not sure about the oil return though.

i dont thinkt that it would have much to do with the maf sensor because my maf was screwed at one stage, and the light just stayed on, it didnt flash or anything, just always on..
Stupid sensor telling the car the air was at -58 degrees..
although this could also be different cos i got a 96 model and they might have change it..

I know mine is def the maf sensor, and its only going to come on when it picks up a "strange" reading... obviously urs was on because ur Maf was rooted....
Tza's and the other's are comming on an off because its not rooted, just every now and again it throws a weird reading...
Do your car's drive any different with the engine light on? have u tried pulling over and seeing if turns off at different RPM etc...
