Hello everyone.
I am experiencing such an annoying issue so Im hoping someone can help me or point me in the right direction.
Whenever i turn my car off it drains the power.
I have disconnected the amps, subs and splits but my HU is still looking pretty but obviously not playing any sounds.
The HU is set that it still has power even when not on the accessories or ignition position.
It completely drains it that I have to jump start, it killed my last battery so now that I want to drive my car full time (instead of the partners) I really would like to fix this up.
Thanks in advance
Karen

Didn't you just answer your own question? Why don't you hook it up to accessories to be powered only when the car is on, as opposed to sucking power constantly?

Yeah try installing a switch onto your "Constant 12V" so it doesn't run all the time, that way if you want it on for a show you can with having keys or if your driving round, it will turn on anyway with the acc ( depending on how you have hooked it up ).

Basically, having your HU hooked up like that is like leaving your dome light on but removing the globe. will still suck power because it's just throwing away the current. hooke it up to ACC like you're supposed to and you wont have this prob.
Is there any reason why you've got it hooked up to work all the time? If it needs to be like that, run a constant power on a switch in the cabin to the accessories point of the headunit, along with accessories power from the ignition. This way the headunit will turn on and off as per normal when you drive the car day to day, but when you want the headunit on without the keys you can flick the switch and away you go.
I personally would be setting up the switch to disconnect accessories when you turn constant on, so you don't risk damage to the stereo by accidentally turning both on at once.

An electrician hooked it up like that.
I would have assumed he knew what he was doing....
I know how to install a cd player and thats about how extensive my electrical knowledge is.
I just wanted to confirm it wasnt anything more than switching it to accessories.

well IF that's the source of the power leak then yes, it's as simple as flicking it to ACC.
My car has a power leak on the remote central because I bridged two wires to make it so that I could press the drivers snipper and lock all the doors. mine is VERY minor and only plays up after about 2weeks of no use...

how does that work? the light globe completes the electrical circuit, without it there is just a live end.. its the same as connecting a wire to your battery and having it connect to nothing.. it just sits there doing nothing.
things dont just 'throw away' current, there has to be something there to draw that current in the first place.
as for the problem.. my deck is (was) wired to 12V on the acc line. i preferred it that way. you have to manually turn off your deck though, if you dont, it certainly will draw current.

This man speaks the truth, in case anyone wants to argue the point.

spot on,there has to be a "draw" or a "load" to cunsume the power,if it didnt work like this every switch in the car when in the off postion would still be draining the batt, not so
Steve
Unfortunately when you turn off some headunits, they don't operate like a globe holder with no globe, they do drain power. It all depends on if the headunit in question does when its switched off with acc power still running to it if any. I know for certain my headunit will constantly drain power when there is current to the acc line as the display never turns off, nor do the key lights, or the motor for the face.
oh sorry i should have extended. by 'manually turn your deck off', i should have said 'use necessary means to ensure it doesnt draw'. some decks go to a gay 'clock' mode when you turn them off manually so you need a switch to kill them properly

Well with the help of a good mate we had a look at the 'set up'.....
It was a huge mess and dodgy shortcuts everywhere.
We are confident its fixed the problem so looking forward to not having a dead battery anymore.
