View Full Version : oh no.. not ANOTHER Bingled Verada?! (pos not 56k friendly)

i have sad news.. the Verada.. is.. DENTED!
bit of a funny story actually (gotta put some sort of spin on it!)
was at work (which is a panel beaters for those who dont know..) and i parked the car where i normally do, behind the normal person i park behind.
at 4oclock this afteroon, the other office girl left to go home, few moments later, heard a car alarm going off - but thought nothing of it.
the office girl comes running back to the reception, and says to me "Andrew, your car is that shiny white sedan isnt it?" and im like yeah that sounds like my car.
"Iv just reversed into it"
i thought she was joking at first, so laughed a lil then noticed that she wasnt. oh crap
so go out to my car with her, and sure enough, she has reversed her 2006ish Mitsu Pajero straight back into the front of my Verada! (zero damage was done to her car)
im kinda glad she came back in to tell me, otherwise i wouldnt have known who did it!
we look at each other (im keeping my cool - afterall, i have to work with her and i know where she lives lol) and she said, well we work in the right place, go get them to do a quote up on it, shouldnt be more than about 700bucks damage there, i pay for it to be fixed for you (quite rightly too IMO)
so she goes home - i guide her back to make sure she doesnt have another crash into my car! and i drive right up to work and get it quoted on for repair.
now, damage doesnt look much really, all it looks like is a few minor scrapes, broken bonnet protector (which didnt work!) and the bonnet bent a little.
when getting the quote drawn up for repair, the bonnet requires force to get it to open... the.. radiator support panel is pushed down and the radiator is twisted a bit, the cowl is pushed back and twisted the same as the rad support...
bonnet catch (vertical support brace) is pushed back and bent too.
all up, its *SO FAR* up to 3000bucks, and i still have to get parts prices for my new bonnet, bonnet protector etc etc.
and of course, being starlight pearl, its not so easy to just paint one panel... its all gotta be blended onto other panels... the whole front end of my car has gotta be resprayed basically!
that kinda works well for me really, as i had a minor touched up scrape on the LH corner of the Front Bar, but nothing major.
drove the car home, and the whole way home, it was pulling a lil to the left - and the car used to run true in a straight line if you took your hands off the wheel - which i do a lot! haha
a lil concerned about the airconditioning condensor may have been split, i wasnt game to turn on the ac on the way home.
anyhow, they say a picture tells a 1000words, so enough of words and time for pictures (i emailed the ones that where taken for the quote home to myself)
the repairs will get carried out at work (i hope / insist) so that i can check on it everyday when im there, and its going to come off the other girls insurance, so its not going to cost me anything (in theory)
funny thing is, i done a lot of crazy stuff, parked in suss areas, cant park, and never have i had damage on a car - the first time it happens, its parked out front of a panel beaters and im not even near the thing!
she shall be returned to gawjuss soon enough, i just feel inferior now, driving a dented verada!
ok, time for pics :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/doddski_03/DSC01505.jpg
the bonnet is pushed down at the front into the front bar, the edges near the headlights have been pulled upwards - which is why the car alarm went off thats where the switch for it is.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/doddski_03/DSC01508.jpg
a better view of where its been pulled up over the headlights
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/doddski_03/DSC01512.jpg
cant really see it too well, but there is bendage and twistage there. will get them to perform a test on the rad to make sure its not busted.

the 'beak' of the bonnet, its pushed down and back a lil, the catch is now on an angle as part of it.
im just glad she was honest and came and told me it was her, and that the car will be repaired at no cost to me - which is good considering my excess is 2500bucks... haha

ahahaha
good thing about it, is know exactly where the quote and claim is at with the process!
when they get authorisation from insurance company im going to be without a car for up to two weeks *crys*
i didnt think it was that bad damage really, until i saw the total, i see a lot of car quotes everyday, and cars with more obvious damage cost less to repair than this one is sitting at... i thought somewhere around 800ish for repairs.
they got a fair bit of work to do to put the new rad support in, gotta strip a lot outa the engine bay to get at it, so theres a large labor content right there....

I cant even see any damage, you trying driving around a car with a crater in the drivers door.
I was sitting at the lights the other day and some guy standing on the side of the road yells out to me "That's a nice big roo hit you have on your door there mate"
Now the guy couldn't of been too smart because obviously a roo couldn't do that much damage if it hopped into the side of your car:bowrofl:
Yeah, driving a damaged car around is embarrasing, makes you think everyone is looking at your car and thinking your a bad driver.

23-09-2008, 07:31 PM
on a brighter note, i might change to some crystal visions while the front bar is off the car and the headlights are off the car.. saves me pulling the car apart to do it myself! esp as it will sit in pieces for at least 3days while they think about what they are ment to be doing to the car next...
EDIT - VRX Front bar.. hmm tempting and the cars allready going to be pulled apart.. get her insurance to pay for new rada bar, and il pay the difference for VRX bar... its a possibilty.. then i need to get it reversed into the back and sides, so i can change the side skirts and rear bar to match!
VRX front bar is my suggestion...

Unlucky, but what better place to have a fender bender!
My wifes car was rear ended last week. she was stationary and the other car didn't see her and bang. Getting assessed tomorrow but quotes have come to 1700 bucks so far.
Just some cosmetic damage to the rear bumber but the tailgate takes some force to open and close now.

looks even better when its freshly cleaned, shame that it doesnt last long - damn for cane dust, and general dust and coal dust all in the air. this is why i must spend every friday night at the carwash to keep it clean lol.
i know its not major damage at all - hardly anything really cosmetically, but its my first bingle as such, and its annoying and almost interesting at the same time. i stand on one side of the counter at work doing up quotes for people who have had bingles, now im being the person with the bingle, and typing up my own quote too!

Wheres the scratch?? Can't see it.
paint on the leading edge of the bonet is chipped away a bit, and i noticed there are light cracks where the bonnet is now curved.
the biggest crash damage, is the bonnet protector! but it didnt do its job very well did it!!!
front bar, the inbetween the two grilles section with the logo, has been pushed back and down a bit - its flatter than normally should be.
totalled up the quote today with parts prices included, comes to just a breath under 5k!!!!
one of our quoters is an ex suncorp insurance car assessor, so he knows what hes doing - been doing it for maaaany years now.
i would hate to see what the bill was going to be like if she put more effort into reverseing into the car.
VRX front bar is being considered too.. but might look out of place as it would be the only VRX bit on the car, so i dont think i will for the moment.

vr-x front bars are the shiz!!
they don't even look out of place if its the only mod.
i got a vr-x bar after writing off my old front bar, best time to do it really as insurance covers some of the cost.
so if you have enough money i would do it now.
at least the damage isn't that noticable (well not from the pictures anyway)
whats really embarrassing was driving around the streets missing my whole LH front panel. and pieces of metal hanging out here and there (hit a tree taking a corner a bit quick in the rain)

umm. new they are $1000, but you should be able to score one for the $500 mark if your lucky.
theres been a few upgrades to vr-x bars lately, so they might be a bit harder to find.

we have mega buying power at suppliers, and if i wanted to i could it one VERY cheap from mitsu (in comparison to RRP anyhow..)
one of the guys that comes into work to do the pinstriping, is a magnaholic too - he can source stuff really cheap.
its going to be a couple of weeks before the car goes in for repair.. office girl is now dragging her feet about it, so i may just phone my insurance and get them to sue her insurance company for it...

woot - thread mine!
a lil update on the situation.
the claims gone thru - all my parts have been approved as well, which is always a good thing.
im getting new Grilles too - @ 114.50 each as well - and mine arnt really that damaged either! a couple of small marks on them, and places where its been pushed against - poss from before the incident.
theres a 3week wait at a min on them two grilles for the front bar... not happy.
i said to the parts guy - can we do the work without it and just fit them up later, and hes not sure about it. prolly easier in the long run to save time disassembe and assembling the front bar to get at them grilles to just wait out the 3weeks for them to arrive. said they had to come from Japan... which prolly means i wont be getting new ones if Japan dont have any...
VRX front bar conversion - im going to pass on that one now i think, i like the subtleness of the rada front end.
iv been putting off washing the car coz of the bonnet lifted up, but i think im going to have to do it - as its getting to the point where i cant see much paint colour - just lots of coal dust, sugarcane dust, road grime and just general dirt; i like a clean car.
while / when it eventually gets into repair, im going to get them to do a light cut and polish - coz im seriously too slack to do it myself and figure why do it myself at leat they know what they are doing. that and i been trying to bride the paintshop boys into doing my car and they keep telling me to f off... haha now they cant - im paying for it!
the bonnet shouldnt be too much of a drama should it? to go thru the carwash (touchless of course!) i know modern engines are a lot more... resistant to water on the outside than ones of decades gone by - but just eleaviate my paranoia!

WTF!! Who are you with for that kind of excess? Mine's $1750 inc. age excess and I'm 19!
AAMI is who im with.
its the only way i could make the car affordable at the time when i got it to be able to insure the car... - i Flexi Premium, i figured at the time, i wont have an accident i wont need to claim on insurance....
at that rate, the premium for full comp is about 400ish a year.
im also a rating one driver - never had a claim or speeding ticket etc
when i got the car, REALLY could NOT afford the insurance on it, let alone run the thing - such financial situations proceeded for the following year of ownership.
situation changed now (now have / am able to return to fulltime work thankfully) so i will be looking at adjusting the flexiness around a bit, make the premium more expensive and have a lower excess.
Aami want around 1100ish a year at the full premium amount for my car, with a 550excess + age excess (im 22)
i got a quote from NRMA insurance and they *only* wanted 986 or so for full comp - but i couldnt flexi premium it in the first year - and didnt have the money for the 400ish premium as it was. (couldnt hit the parents up for 1000bucks... but could get away with 400 lol)
moral of the story... well i wont bore you actually, muchly off trackage potential there.

People shouldn't complain about insurance.
My first car I had insured was a Daewoo Lanos SE 3Dr hatch.
I was 19, and had written off a vehicle the previous year.
$2400 was the premium I paid (in monthly installments).
Then a year or two later when I bought the familia, turbo AWD hatchback, 21 YO, rating 5 (or 4, I forget now), it was about the same.. I was amazed I could even get insurance on it.
Anyways, I digress...

well, the car is at the shop now, dropped it in (funny as i take it there everyday!) last tuesday morning.
they took the bonnet off.. and then the front bar...
thats all they have done in the week :(
app the new bonnet has been primed, which is a good thing, but its still a while away yet before its ready for the new bonnet to be fitted up.
really sucks, as im running around in mums car atm - and its GUTLESS
4cycl autos... a great gift to the motoring world, in a friggin HYUNDAI TUSCON! GUTLESS.
im hitting them up every day about how its going, and they say they are working on it - i seen it sitting in the yard UNMOVED or UNTOUCHED for the last week now :(
not happy jan.
miss running around in the rada :(
one good thing about this - health wise as well, is im smoking like 1/3rd of my 'normal' amount. usually squeeze in 3 or 4 sometimes on the way to work, now im only having one in the mornings. lunch normally includes 5 in an hour - only having 3. drive home is normally 3 - i only have one before i gt in mums car and drive home.
first couple of days was a lil difficult, but its not so bad now... i spose now the trick would be to continue to NOT smoke in the rada when i get it back, and carry it over to NOT smoking at ALL....
oh well, at least its started

that and i also told them that it WAS going to be fixed this year no question, i plan on using the car over the break.

how did they go with the rad support did they replace/paint it? cause with the 380 they painted it 4 times and its still not right  just wondering how much of the engine bay they paint to get it to match.
got mediation with RACV early dec and im going for broke lol they reckon by the time they fix everything im not happy with the repair will end up costing more than the car! :bowrofl:

thats an interesting question...
i havnt seen it AT ALL in the workshop for the repairs side of things - its only been painted as far as i could see...
the rad support.. was spose to have been removed, repaired and then refitted - followed of course by painting...
yesturday, the paint shop was prepping it for paint, and the weld areas... showed no signs of being 'undone' - cant see any other evidence of removal for repairs and then being put back on again..
you have a RIGHT to have your car returned to you in pre-accident condition, regardless who is at fault. if your not happy, ask to speak to a supervisor at the insurance company, if they dont give you waht you want - go higher. you will eventually get your way :)
dont go off at the repair shop (too much) as insurance companies cut them back on a lot of the work that they want to do to the car - hourly rates per item, hours allocated per item of work, and often will completely cut out items on the quote because they dont feel its nec from a 2min 'assessment' of the vehicle.
additionals to claims / jobs, while a pain in the ass to get approval for, are the only way you can get close to getting everything you (the panel shop) asked for, even then you still fall short - which sucks, as its the customers car that losses out :(

i emailed me these pics of course from work :)
car is currently being detailed - so im told anyhow..
which means its NEARLY READY! YAY!
car is filthy too.. so its quite.. disgusting unfort :(
oh well - it will be perfect eventually.
im not sure if the work has been done correctly though.. will see.

well
a LOVELY new development...
the car is COVERED - EVERY SINGLE PANEL has overspray on it :(
im thinking what they did on the weekend, get all the fans in the workshop, turned all in the same direction and on high - and sprayed paint in the air..
my car wasnt the only one to get it either-all the cars in the shed got overspray
paint feels rough and bad too to run your hand across it - i know it needs a buff etc before its ready, but DAMN its worse than any other car i have touched there after painting (Finger prints in the paint FTW!)
one of the girls there was like "u should take your car back and they can detail it every day its here while your at work"
and while thats an idea - i dont want to take delivery of the car back, until its finished... and that might be a while yet :(
upside tho, even though its not detailed etc, in the sunlight, the new paint looks STUNNING!
looked so deep and gawjuss that i just wanted to dive in and swim in it hahaha

hows the color match, like the rad support with the rest of the engine bay? also whats it like under the bonnet? need some ammo when going head on with the assessor. also did they replace the bolts and plastic clips with new ones, or scoth brite and paint over the old bolts?
thanks.
they reused the old clips and bolts etc
colour match - its not as glossy or pretty as the top of the bonnet where they did the rad support - but under the bonnet and engine bay area never was as sparkly as the top - i put that down to the fact that engine bays are dirty places.
the under bonnet area, was totally painted and then the padding put back (with new clips)
one thing that is missing, is the sticker that goes on the underside of the bonnet - im personally not that fused about it, but it was there to start with, so it should be put back IMO.
the Rad support is pretty good, its the same colour as the bonnet etc - so it was all painted at the same time - always a good thing im sure.
the rad support is the only part of my car, that didnt get overspray on it!!!
if you are not happy with your car, make your point known (but be nice about it,) assessors are ****s and swear filter would have picked that one up for sure - but they are.
who is the insurance with?
NRMA is generally pretty good
CGU... hmmm yeah good (
AAMI - repairers HATE doing thier work, as thier rates are so low its not worth the work, hence the work not always being the best
if the assessor doesnt play ball with you, take it further - ask for his boss's number and talk to him about it.
generally - the repairer is happy to do the work again IF the insurance is going to pay for it, they wont be happy about it if its going to cost them

Never had a problem with AAMI, both my cars are through them and when the Yaris went in AAMI made sure that the car came back as if it just left the factory, and the repairers themselves were very good.
So I tend to think that it's the individual office's are the ones that set the standard not the company as a whole.

thats prolly true in part - so il pay that one :)
My car is insured with AAMI - but its getting repaired under NRMA insurance atm.
they shocked us actually, we quoted my paint at an M3 @ 75an hour - NRMA bumped the price UP to 102an hour!
its unusual - but insurance companies will actually ask you to charge them MORE occasionally! haha

Engine bays are generally a base colour and should not show high gloss, this is a good way to tell a car that has been in a good bingle and then repaired
Most cars have a series of base colours that do not match the outside colour for under bonnet, engine bay and boot area, this is very common and again a good way to tell if has been repaired
I do not know what sort of place this is that is doing your car but any good painter will cover the part of the car that is not getting painted, this is standard practice
Madmagna
04-12-2008, 06:07 AM
i know the engine bay is not as shiny and a different base coat but the color should be consistant with the rest of the engine bay and under bonnet. atm i have a matt rad support, semi-gloss engine bay and a high gloss duco. then it goes matt again where they blended the bonnet hinges to the bonnet and semi gloss to the front of the bonnet. i know insurance dont want to fix it ause it means stripping the engine and tranny again  but thats not my problem.
but then they masked off the gloss part to touch it up and now theres a distinct line from the masking i swear 1 of us is going to write this car off shortly
Agreed, the paint for the rad support needs to match that of the bay. Most painters have the codes that the manufactures use for the engine and non finish paint such as these areas I mentioned before.

bonnets should NEVER be blended
too much of a 'flat' surface that will catch the light and show up the blending
i had a closer look at my overspray...
EVER single rubber seal, is now.. black with speckles of white...
when i get the car back, i will go over it with a fine tooth and comb, and if im not happy il make em do it again.
had the workshop manager jump down my throat today - going off at me about something one of the other workshop boys made up.

Overspray on the Rubber, ffs what sort of place is this. Why the hell did they not cover the rest of the car if for no more reason to stop dust on the car blowing back into the new paint
I know you work there mate but that is crap. Paint will not just wipe off the rubber either. If they use solvent on the rubber say by bye to all your seals over the next 12 or so months.
You are right, bonnets do not get blended, if you paint a bonned you blend into the guards, usually on a curves surface is best

it wasnt just my car that coped the overspray - last weekend the workshop manager, and the paintshop manager whewre there trying to catch up on work from the week.
my car was down the OTHER end of the workshop (reasonably large, can fit a lot of trucks and cars in there at one time) and they where painting down the other end of the workshop.
EDIT - one of the other cars that got overspray on it, got it INSIDE the car as well.. at least on paint you have a chance to get it off, once on fabric you dont...
i MIGHT have gotten the car back today, if the painter who was detailing my car, haddnt of decided he had had enough and GONE HOME midway through my car. they are going to polish it tomorrow for me, so it *SHOULD* be ready for monday... i hope...
one thing i noticed though, is the paint on ALL the panels now, feels REALLY rough, i understand that paint is never smooth when its just been laid down, but didnt image in to feel like its been put down with a house roller brush thing. paint itself on the panels is FLAWLESS - i was checking out where things would have been blended and the like in the sunlight today, and you cannot tell where old meets new - so i am happy about that.
interior has coped a bit of a rough treatment - they didnt shud the drivers door properly when washing it, so there are now water marks on my door trim :S
passengers seat has a lovely GREASE MARK on it - not very happy about that :(
i just hope the car comes back to feeling smooth as silk again to the touch when i get it back - i hope a polish will sort that out.
oh - my grilles will be IN THE COUNTRY on the 19th of december - in Sydney though. so another 3ish days to mackay, then 3to get lost at mitsy here, then 2to be lost at work
then a whole day to fit them... so end of next year it looks to be complete...
we guarentee all our work, and it obv applies to staff who get work done there, if seals start to fall apart on me from thier negligence, i will let them know about it.
beleive it or not - we are actually THE prestigue auto refinisher in mackay, i know, hard to imagine there are worse places from what im saying but we are the best - and pay the best rates too (apparently)
i just want my car back - driving a turbo deisel work ute around atm, and while i like the turbo sound, i miss automatic.. i miss all the lights.. i miss my cd player... i miss my crappy turning circle... i miss CLIMATE CONTROL THE MOST! lol

got the car back today
its NOT finished though
they just wanted it out of the workshop it seems
things not on the car:
L/H & R/H Frong Guard Badges - "AWD"
Front Mitsu Badge
Windscreen washer jets (both of them)
Bonnet Protector
not 100% happy about it either :(
still some overspray on the car - but w.shop manager dude said 'we will get it done for you' yeah right...
headlights arnt sitting right - they are even, but i think they point UP too much
front bar seems lower with more of a gap under the healights than before getting reversed into
front guards arnt as flush to the front bar as before getting reversed into
car has managed to do 15kms while there... SOMEHOW interestingly...
paint is still rough - needs a detail STILL - that was ment to get doen on saturday just gone..
Rad support is verticle again - so thats a good thing i spose
ok, time for a favours - i need under bonnet photos - for ammo to throw at them to get my car right again.
main concern is the headlights and the locking tabs / clips / screws. ie - there is a black tab thing, with a hole in it halfway between the topmost. is there ment to be a clip of sorts there?
its the same on both sides. there is a hole in the metal below it - which makes me think there is ment to be something there...
bonnet closing lines - mines not 100% yet, above the headlights, it sits proud by a couple of mm (im picky)
im not sure if the cap to the front bar and bonnet is correct either - seems a lil large for my liking.

so how did it go doddski they gonna fix it or what? what do u actually do there seems weird they treat employees like that. just had a live assessment done on the 380 and the assessor agreed my engine bay needs to be painted again which means engine/tranny/suspension out for the 3rd fn time!!!!!!
nothing has been done on the car lately....
they dont want to touch it it seems :(
which is very friggin annoying!
got a quote to get all the overspray taken off by a detailer - 300bucks! i was like nah il let work do that, coz im not (and shouldnt have to) pay for that myself for thier stuff up.
iv edited my job title in the computer as well "NAME - FULL DETAIL" and when they do the current jobs meeting every morning, they will see it and remember that my car still isnt finished.
now have washer jets - they dont point anywhere really usefull tho, but still have them on there i spose is a start. put the bonnet protector back on myself before heading to townsville on friday arvo just done - coz i did NOT want its first road trip to result in chips in a sparkly new painted bonnet! haha
put the mitsu badge back on the front too myself.
still missing the AWD guard badges - they are going to retape them, which im not happy about, coz it NEVER looks good and when work retapes badges, they tend to fall off.....
good to hear though, that your car is gunna get fixed properly, just sucks for the time factor that its going to take to get it done :( would be costing the panel beaters a fortune to rework it too - lifting engines and trannies out of bays.
im just going to have to wait for it all to be finished 100%... its just a waiting game but i want it over NOW!

just got back from my panel shop and boy was they pissed! we had a heart to heart and he showed me some of the s class mercs they were repairing and i could see where he was comming from. they rekcon the engine bay has this weird dusting of paint that u cant replicate with a spray gun. i guess theres some truth to cause i looked in the boot and its a mess of paint where they've done a base coat, then a top coat and then the clear with paint everywhere! and thats how its like from the factory.
after 5 goes and 3 powertrain strip/refit they have said enough and wont do any more :( cause they reken its cost 1/2 the cars value already in repairs. anyway its going back to get some pulleys and bearings replaced as they got scratched in the accident.
hows teh verada going, all done yet?
Holy **** man......
So what they are saying is they cant get the engine bay glossy?

*takes off mining outfit*
mini-thread mine!
just a lil update on the rada...
still not finished as yet - still has overspray all over it, rubber seals are starting to go brittle as well - like around the headlights and tail lights - and there are 'globs' of white overspray around too.
Wiper arms, blades, cowl panel are all still white - while driving down the gold coast, my wipers where crap making more noise than moving water coz they have gone hard (where fine before) and of course me being me, iv been slack to replace them...
i wonder if i could charge work for new wiper blades since they stuffed my old ones?
i dont like my chances of keeping my job / getting my car back right if i tried that - but should have a right to shouldnt i? im a customer and an employee
took my car to go do the banking (partly coz i didnt want to take the work ute coz it ment i would have had to go and pick up a bullbar from in town, and slack for that - requires effort haha) and while standing around out the back of the bank having a smoke (its my morning tea break - at 4pm) was standing in the shade, and noticed that the front bar is now DROPPING away from the car
upon closer inspection, the LH corner of the bar - juuuuust under the headlight where the guard /front bar meet, they have chipped the paint when trail fitting the bar back up.. and then brush touched it...
you CANNOT BRUSH TOUCH a pearl paint like this, shows up.
bonnet is starting to look a lil patchy too - but im thinking thats coz it still has overspray on it.
the 'points' of the bonnet, up the back/top where it curves around the windscreen wipers to the A Pillars (both sides) the corners of the paint there are chipped too. hadnt really noticed it before tho coz i was more concerned about the overspray on it...
so will be letting them know that the car must now go in for REWORK, i want it PERFECT, as it was in excellent condition.
if they leave the overspray on there much longer, they are going to have a hard time getting it off, and may have to repaint over it.. good for me.. free respray! haha
if it comes to that, il source me a KW rear bar and get it painted at the same time - so it can all be ruined when they stuff up in the workshop next...
oh - and we are going to get busier, one of the other panel shops is going under, which means we will get busier, which means more stuff will get rushed - so that means more F ups! woot
hope my cars not in there for rework at that stage...
also had the insurance company phone chasing the invoice - and i wont be putting it through to them until i am 100% happy with the car again - and it could be a while... haha *sigh*

when he asks how i know the whole car aint been done, its coz they would need to wash the car before claybaring - and only the bonnet was done - i aint washed the car in a MONTH now (and she shows it too :( )
at least im getting a free detail outa it (slowly)
man thats crap. Clay barring a whole car will take NO MORE then 90-120 minutes of decent effort. It's absolute crap that your car's been treated like this for what was basically a little bump. I'd be freeken peeved I tells ya.

*takes off mining outfit* threadmine!
its my thread, and a continuation..
update Re the grilles..
they are NO LONGER AVAILABLE ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!
so much for them being on thier way from Japan...
no mitsy dealer has them in stock in Aus, they are no longer being made by mitsy either in Japan and no stocks exsist there.
good on ya guys for buying the last one :P hahah kidding
there are no aftermarket ones either - so now its up to the parts guy to hunt me down a Second hand but as new condition drivers grille.
like thats gunna happen - you guys woulda allready stole all of them from the wreckers.
might hit the insurance company up for a refund of the cost of that grille (as im entitled to it if parts of suitable condition are no longer avail new) so might get a cheque in the mail for 114.50.
still no news on the overspray either - still havnt done anything about it, and my email to the workshop manager has yeilded no results.
might just go get it detailed professionally, and have the invoice made out to work - its prolly the only way itl get done.
doddski
21-01-2009, 07:13 PM
dont u work there?
im suprised they don't make them anymore, but how badly is the grille busted, like is it 2 piece cause i was thinking maybe they can make a grille out of an Ei grille if the fins arn't busted and comes apart.
yeah i work there - but there was logic in my madness (well sometimes) of sending an email.
the way work computers / emails are set up, is it auto asks and sends a read receipt to the sender. this way i can say - well i emailed you on such date, and you read it at 7.12am (as it was)
i have emailed myself HOME the read receipt and the original email too - 'just in case'
the grille really is fine - i dont know why they wanted new ones to start with, its a *little* out of shape near the headlight side, but i cant honestly remember it being diferent before getting minor bingleage.
unfort, they are all one peice :(
i might hit the insurance company up for a pair of VR ones haha - somehow i dont think il get it, as the rada allready has one new KL grille on it (pass side) and i would have to give that one up...
AFAIK - ei / awd / xi (in KL at least) all had the same grilles?
MitchellO

i think all the grille sizes are the same, just the number, angle shape and colour / trim on them is different between the models?
just looked on carsales at some VR's, they seeeeeem to have a close match to the KL grilles- but the KL has chrome on the slats with a black base / background and chrome trim along the \____/ part
prolly cost more than the KL parts, and would need to be painted and chrome stripped to match... so it wont happen, il prolly get a cheque from the ins co as they are NLA

yes thats right - i got reversed into - AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111
not happy Jan!
was getting my weekly fuel allowance on the company fuel card (which means my car costs me nothing to get to and from work every day - YAY!) just finished filling the car up, you know, hanging up the pump, putting the fuel cap back on and closing the flap kinda thing.
started to walk in to pay for the fuel, and there is a ute parked infront of the shop - with a big closed in metal canopy over the back of it, and he starts to reverse out - its a bit of a tight squeeze, but iv done it several times in the rada - even with FAIL turning circle.
rolling back rolling back (and turning left hand down at the same time) im looking at it thinking, hes gunna stop... soon.. right?
and in that moment, CRUNCH - these grilles make a funny sound when being snapped! haha
yes i *COULD* have waved to try and get his attention - and that would have worked, i would have his attention on me and not what hes doing - may have been worse.
so yeah, crunch moment - the spine cringes thinking **** me, i still aint got it fixed properly yet, and some other **** is reversing into me Already!?
he gets out, hes a little stressed about it (obv) and hes going oh im sorry im sorry, how bad is it. i said calm down, do you have a business card or similar so i can have a quote on repairs sent to you. he gives me his card, and we swap all other relivant details. we both got our camera phones out and took some pics of the situation too.
the part of the ute that hit me, was under the r/h tail light, theres a metal bar / braket to protect the light, and it was that part that hit me - im glad he didnt go straight back - he had a towball - i would have been leaving the rada on the forcourt!
anyhow - hes like oh im sorry, now iv inconvenienced you in having to go for quotes and the like - luckily, i work at a panel beaters.
il cut off there, its turning into a long post (i know Lucifer is slack for the reading :P)
heres another photo for the hell of it.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/doddski_03/22012009100.jpg
it was the BRAND SPANKERS new grille that copped it too :(
i hope that side is still avail from Mitsy, as you can see - its a little stuffed.
oh well - i was getting tired of the 'old' (4months old...) paint on the bonnet anyhow....
bonnet will be getting repaired and painted, along with the front bar (repair and paint - its only scuffed, but scuffed through the clearcoat)
bonnet protector status: FAIL at protecting the bonnet... AGAIN lol

i always found it to be a pretty standoutish colour, esp in the sunlight - its kinda hard to miss...
im waiting for the THIRD accident / inncident to happen now...
i wonder if the third will be the writeoff?
thing is - iv always said that if i ever have an accident of sorts - i want a write off, i dont want repairs... and now the car will be getting repaired twice?!
at least its another bonnet spray that im not paying for / coming off my insurance (other driver admitted fault when he got out / during conversation)
when went in to pay - said to the cashier 'the freshly dented one please!" and she just laughed at me - quite suprised that i wasnt angry or anything like that.
you can go one of two ways when something like this / worse / bigger etc happens - get angry, or not. the not option works much better in the long run

No way that is sssooooooooooooo un fair!!!!!!! Maybe the gods are telling you go the VRX front end? Their is another Verada out there with it in purple. But would so work well with your colour. Alternatively get reverse sensors in double reverse, on the front of your car and they yell out STOP if someone gets close?:P But seriously so sorry to hear!!!!

hmm yes maybe its time for a VRX front...
but i dunno how that would look - VRX front KL rada (std) side skirts and (eventually) KW rear bar with the funky lights...
might look too... missmatched?
wont i need to gt new foggies as well then?
well the lenses on my foggies have well... fogged over.. and im looking at replacing the glass lense/cover anyway...
im thinking they still make VRX grilles for TL/W?

Man I've rarely seen anyone with that amount of bad luck! Though on dad's old old car when we got it new in 2003 when it was only 6 months old it got too close at personal with a tree at low speed, had the bumper replaced just for 1 month later to have someone in one of the work ute's reverse into it and rip the whole front bar off lol Your extreme luck reminds me of that :P

each time i look at that photo of the cluster, i keep trying to dust the screen then realise that i took a PICTURE of something with dust on it.. so that wont work...
i do a bit of country night driving, and the bugs here (as im sure Tsv) like to go towards the light.. and then i end up collecting them on the front bar.... the cops dont like it when im swerving all over the road - they dont belive that i have just washed the car, and want to avoid the bugs/insects from hitting it and getting it dirty again... haha

starlight white - which means, sparkly and GAWJUSS.
its a bit pearlish really - hard to describe - ask Type40, hes in love with this paint.
im thinking about the VRX front... coz like.. im allready getting the front bar painted AGAIN... who says that it has to be the SAME (verada) bar that gets painted...
had a look at the quote today... ANOTHER 1226.6(inc gst) of damage done to the car, phoned the guy up, said hes going to have to pay for it coz his boss said it was negligence on his part (which it was!) - oh btw, whats it come to?
i tell him - hes very much NOT happy!
asking me WHY is it cost that much for a small scratch (bar) a dint (bonnet - the bonnet has also been pushed SIDEWAYS on closer / second inspection) and some paint (bonnet and bar) (along with ANOTHER new pass side grille (114.50inc gst)... and a bonnet protector (80inc gst)
so i explained that as the car is a Pearl white - from factory (made that point known) that it attracts a premium rate for painting because of the time / skill needed to do it.
hes not happy (understandable i spose) but i faxed him the quote anyway...
i have a feeling this one might get ugly - if all else fails, il inform my insurance company, they will fix it and then chase him down.
the 'incident' was caught on servo CCTV of course - and he allready admitted liability/fault!
oh the joys of cars!
(i realised, my car has had more spend on it in REPAIRS (6500now with this one!) than mods! maybe i SHOULD make a mod outa this repair... now to FIND a VRX front bar..)
EDIT - got the car serviced today, and am currently detailing the interior, so hopefully my car will love me again! ahahaha

i feel ur pain, im pretty shore i didn't tick the optional accident inducing transfunctioner module when i got the car. i'm begginning to think it was standard on Xi verada's. i noticed after 4 resprays mines got a tiny sliver on the bonnet edge that doesn't have paint
im putting on the flame suit, bullet proof vest and riot gear as im abt to see the panel shop again
we have had at work, someone bring back thier Kia Sportage... FIIIIIVE times, for one flare thats not quiiiite perfectly colour matched.
they/we find it annoying, but if you are not happy with the work, then you have a right to get it corrected.
there will be a point tho, where insurance will just 'cut you off' and if the engine and trans has been out 3 or 4 times now, that point (the value of the car) will be approaching fast.
have you spoken to your assessor about trying another panel shop to get the rework done at?
you have write of choice of repairer (an insurance company CANNOT force you into going to 'thier' repair agent if you dont want to), and i know of one XR6T we had in work, where there was a stuff up or two.. and the car came back a couple of times.. the third time the assessor said that they will try to get the rework done out in Moranbah (2hours over the hill from mackay - its a mining town) so he wasnt driving in and out of mackay all the time. havnt seen that car for 4months now, so it must have been worked on out there.
maybe suggest it to your assessor?
they can only say no - the panel shop from the first time is still going to get paid either way
im leaning mor towards VRX front bar.... but then il want someone to hit me from behind (pos bad choice of words!? lol) so i can get a KW rear bar put on without having to pay for the paint....
doddski
24-01-2009, 12:34 PM
don't get me wrong, the panel shop does good work, storm is a very hard color to match cause its green with a brownish pearl, so it can look green or brown under different light. but they got the ppg paint which is what mitsubishi uses, so its a p-e-r-f-e-c-t match at all angles, no matter what time of day.
i went with the RACV shop cause the place i go to normally quoted around 8K for the repair and RACV said it was too much, and wouldn't be covered by there warranty. **** its costed them close to 10K already and its still not finished.
we use PPG paints at work too - i even have somewhere here a PPG shirt lol
that is the wonder of Additionals!
(my car doesnt have any additions on it - i feel left out :( - i might put addit1s for new AWD badges, coz they are ment to retape my old ones back on the front guards STILL, but i dont want UUSSSED badges, i want NEW ones :) haha)
iv seen it happen at work - quoted on a L/cruiser Prado, the owner dumped it sideways into a tree - the R/H Rear Door coped it BAD. quoted originally something like $28ooo to repair, received a NOT AUTHORISED please requote. so they knocked a bit off the quote, got it down to 17ooo ish... so we got the authority to start it...
working on it - oh look additionals needed - so we kept bumping up the quote (with legit stuff that was needed) and it ended up costing 30something ooo!
insurance company paid it tho - that doesnt really help with you i know - but there comes a point where the insurance has to decide if they are going to continue to get it painted / fixed, or is it cheaper for them to write it off (repairable - itl go to auctions) and write you a cheque?
they will keep repairing until they have spent ~70% of the cars current market value on repairs.
hmm i might be giving too much away.. lol meh who cares.

DUUUUUUUUDDDEEEE! I just read the whole thing because I just joined 3 weeks ago. You seriously have bad luck with your car...just like mine!
1st accident with my TJ Executive was my fault as I rear ended the car in front of me as I was not paying attention to the road as I was looking at some hot chick running on the causeway in Perth. Didn't get it back for 3 weeks as it was a pretty big job. Everything was back to normal. Then my mum scratched my both of front corner bumper when reversing out of my driveway as she was using my car for her work purposes(before she finally got her own car which means I can finally go out on saturdays). The left corner had a blue paint which belonged to Dad's ex-work car which was a Hyundai Tuscan City. Right corner had cream paint which matches the bricked post at the entrance of the gate. Am considering contacting the Touch Up company for quote to fix my bumper corners.
2nd accident was some indian idiot:rant: reversed into my car when mum was at her client's place(she is a home carer). Mum parked her car on the street outside her client's place and was just about to go inside when she heard a loud bang! Alarm didn't go off which was unusual! She turned in time to see the indian move forward. She found out that this indian just dropped off his mate 5 metres up the road and since it was a T intersection he had a choice to go forwards or turn right but for some ungodly reason, he selected reverse and gunned it and went straight for my car. He managed to take out my left rear light, some bumper and the rear fender. The rear fender exposed the fuel tank and we had a wet weather the whole time waiting for the SGIO assess and send it to the trusted repairer(same one for my 1st accident). I was worried about the rust issue but ain't fuel tank galvanited?
Now I suspect someone dented my car again cos the left door and the panel isn't aligned and panel feels dented. A scratch was noticable on the panel but then again the scratch looks like the shopping trolley cos it is the right height for the scratch.
So yeah you have the worst luck.
The accidents
1st car - 1980 Toyota T-18 SE hatchback: ran into the pole after doing a burn out!
2nd car - 1991 Ford Falcon EB II Sedan: Reversed into someone's car and then took off unknownly what has happened as it was so dark in Henley Brook(no lights in the area at the time). Never felt the impact but was told the other car had bad damage caused by the towbar.
The magna is my 3rd car. Had it for 6 years now. 1st accident with it occured just 2 years ago days before my birthday. 2nd accident occured also before my birthday. That's twice I had no car for my birthday drive!

ok.. *dusts off mining outfit*
car is STILL dented..
i phoned the guy today, and he was stalling me out for more time (saying is away, comes back tomorrow, then away again for nearly a month itl have to wait..)
so i got the ****s with him basically, and phoned my insurance company, and claimed on my OWN insurance for the damages to my car.
i will NOT have to pay the excess, it WONT affect my rating, policy or No claims bonus
my insurance will now chase the other driver for the monies - it wont be the other insuance company is his boss aint going thru thier insurance.
so a little update, stuff him, i want my car fixed NOW - im tired of seeing it dented... (ok ok, its a very SMALL dent, but the principal remains - why should i have to wait this long!?)
so yes, thats the latest update on my car - still damaged, but a step closer (i hope) to being fixed.
itl get assessed by the assessor sometime this week i hope... then its all go for the fixings :)

If you can provide your insurance company with the details of the person who hit you (name, address, rego, phone number, etc.), you won't have to pay the excess and your rating won't be affected.
I went through this with my insurance company a few months ago when my car was sideswiped and had no issues at all. Car was back better than new in a week and now it's tough titties for the person who hit me.

Progress has (FINALLY!) been made!
the front of the car has been removed - front bar and bonnet, front bar will just require minor repair and then paint, bonnet needs some panel beating but not much.
while the car is apart, got one of the workshop boys (who likes my car / likes Magnas / Verads - drives a Falcon tho - which looks pretty good too, and goes even better!)
The TW front number plate mount (No longer avail from mitsu) that i borrowed from a QFleet returned vehicle - they are going to paint it for me (in factory Starlight too) and they have also pulled the engine cover off too - to paint that for me in Starlight as well.
all of which, wont cost me anything!
thinking, while the front bar is OFF the car completely (car looks soooo naked!) its a great time to fit an external transmission cooler, il never get better access to the front of the car again....
looking at a thermostatically controlled one with a fan on it. nothing huge or over the top but the extra fluid in the system has got to help for heat control and trans longevity (spelling?) in the long run.
il get the parts dude to source me one tomorrow - get one of the workshop boys to fit it up for me :)
(im slack!)
good move with the trans cooler...hope to fit mine in the next couple of days.....good to see it finaly getting finished.

THE VERADA... IS... FIXED!
soz for use of caps - its just so exciting!!!!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/doddski_03/fixed1.jpg
i had forgotten what the car looked like.. all in one piece :)
once again, the paint matching is FLAWLESS, they really did do a great job of matching the paint, painting the paint on the other hand... well thats something to be looked at...
the entire surface of the bonnet, is covered with tiny pits in the paint - didnt notice them at first, but then the light caught it at just the right angle and they showed up....
they spent 3hours buffing the bonnet, it really is very smooth and silky - and it looked so good too when it had just been washed - i just wanted to dive into the paint and swim in it !!
EDIT - mum says i should take the bonnet protector OFF, coz since i put it on there, i have been reversed into twice! thoughts?
while the car was there, talked them into painting my engine cover starlight for me too
also got them to fit my TW front number plate mount - and paint that for me too before putting it on of course
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v146/doddski_03/enginecover1.jpg
doesnt look as good as the bonnet, coz its in a lot of shadow.
thinking i might have to polish the inlet manifold now to match the engine cover!
going to be difficult to keep clean too i think - white ON the engine... just glad that i have no oil leaks (yet)
i have a new AWD QUADTEC engine cover sticker coming - hopefully i should get it tomorrow
(i dont go to parts departments to order, i phone, and have them deliver them to me - very slack i know :) )
not 100% happy with it as yet, still have some overspray to remove from LAST time it was there (november for those playing along at home) but they are getting there.
also, the pitting in the paint on the bonnet... not happy about that
and the repair they did to the pass side of the bonnet, under the bonnet - hasnt been painted, and its still patchy bare metal there....
at what point do i just stop and say thats as close as im going to get to good enough?
i dont think i should be made to feel bad about wanting the paint SMOOTH like it left factory, and repairs to be finished off properly?
also - they didnt plug the washer hoses into the jets, but thats really no big deal, i can do that :)

cheers :)
they are no longer available.
there are none in australia - and none in japan either :(
my mitsy dealer hunted everywhere for one for me. none
in the event of an accident.. just screw the number plate to the front bar like us normal TL / KL drivers have to - or steal one (like i did - well wasnt stolen, just forgotten to be put back onto the car it came off after the bar got resprayed)
wreckers are your next bet.
if one cant be found, your insurance company will write you a cheque for the last known price of them, and post it out to you - approx 22bucks!
EDIT - i been looking at CH (think thats the model - same front end as TL/W?) lancer ones, they MAY fit with minor mods...
some toyota ones look like they might go straight on too - 08 Camrys in particular

ok - the car is as complete as it will ever get!
they spent 5hours at work, buffing and polishing the whole car - Katrina Longsfield (get it KL Verada - Katrina Longsfield? haha) has been buffed to within an inch of her life!
fixed my own washer jets - just needed the feed line plugged back into the splitter for the two jets.
this paint looks freaking awsome when its just been polished, almost inspiration / motivation to polish it more often myself - nah il pay someone to do it for me occasionally!
overspray has been removed from the car now (as much as it ever will)
one thing, i pointed out the lack of paint on the metal under the impact area of the bonnet, and thats not even had a lick of paint smeared over it - didnt really have to be starlight or sprayed, a delicate paint brush woulda done fine - never see the under of the bonnet anyway!
EDIT - PICS!

tried to catch the depth to the paint - all with my phone camera too (takes better pics than my digital camera tho!)
