Well ok, i have known for months that my front rotors are warped.
Since i have had the car lowered the steering wheel vibrates when i drive, and i need a wheel alignment to fix it.
But my friend who is a mechanic said it could be shaking if the rear rotors are warped.
Tonight i was driving along, then started to slow down for a sharp corner, as the corner got close i pressed in hard to slow down enough and then i heard this god awful thunk then screech noise from the front end of the car, kinda sounded something falling off the car followed by a nails on chalkboard sound.
As soon as i heard the thunk, the pedal kinda lost pressure and fell a little then felt normal again.
Needless to say it scared the **** out of me, the thunk only happened once, and the noise lasted until i lifted my foot off the brake, i continued to drive after it and it was all normal again.
My brake pads are fine, so yeah i have no idea what happened, can't be good but, any ideas anyone on what it could have been?
Couple of months back same thing with my EB wagon. One of the front pads was missing, came clean off its backing plate.

Take it to a mechanic in the morning mate, thats not normal or good.
I'd replace all 4 rotors and pads.
DIY it, its piss easy.
The get it aligned and all your wheels balanced, shouldnt have a problem.
Ahh you said you need money right right
Just get them machined if there is meat left.

ive got the full set of pads here, just gotta save up a bit for the rotors, my friend is gonna do it for me for some rum, got a wheel balance today and the wheels were 30grams out on each side or something, dunno if thats bad or not but it feels better to drive when going faster.
Rum and beer is the best currency in this country haha.

Are you running superlows? When I got my car lowered, at first they put superlows in, and especially why accelerating there was a shudder in the car, more the whole car than the steering wheel. After the springs were replaced with lows, it went away, so the problem was actually the driveshafts sitting on too much of an angle when lowered on superlows that was causing the shaking.
Not sure if thats what you were experiencing though, could just be the wheel balancing.

Nah im only running lows, only problem ive had since i put them on was steering wheel vibration above 80km/h, but that was fixed today with the wheel balance. Now i just gotta sort out the steering wheel vibration when i put the brakes on:P
Should be putting little kids on the wheel and charging them $1 a ride.

Had quite a lot of braking vibration in my Verada when I first bought it, got the discs machined and it was smooth sailing from then on.

I think something is wrong with mine too.
Only does it some times. Put foot on brake and it sounds like its struggling to grab the disc and doesnt stop as well. my first thought was warped disc or i needed them machined.

Sounds like the Piston in the caliper is not responding as it should, Mine needs new front calipers because of the rubber around the piston being worn out due to high braking points where the caliper got that hot it melted the caliper paint off it. the piston still works fine but since its slogged out it gets spongy and brakes well to a point but still allows air to pass and always creates air in the brakes.
Wombat:
Sounds like the caliper may be siezed the brakes still work but the clunking sound is the piston hitting on the brake pad. Road grime, sand and dirt can work its way into the caliper pins and sieze them up and the grinding sound maybe a worn INNER pad as the that is the pad doing all the work and now has worn out
Always have a mechanic do any brake work as these are the most important thing to stoping you from killing someone or yourself, SO DIY BRAKES STUFF IS A REAL NO NO

i find that interesting as a lot of mechanics i know of/seen work wouldnt know a caliper pin if it jumped up and bit them. It depends on what your doing really, stuff like a caliper rebuild is pretty simple if you know what you are doing and its the same as brake pads. Anything more then that then unless you know your way around cars well or have family/friends in the know then look at a Reputable mechanic to do the work

ebay rotors = bad idea.
Come to think of it Anything that isnt known name brand off ebay = bad idea.
for $200 you can purchase DBA rotors and a set of Ferodo or Bendix pads.

Well I'm not a complete idiot so I'll do every piece of DIY brake work i can. 4 bolts unbolt caliper knock off rotor put it back together, yeah, really needed to pay a mechanic $70 to do that for me
