View Full Version : AWD Hurricane Headers - Cost??
spud100
24-09-2008, 01:40 PM
Had an unpleasant surprise today.
Went into Liverpool Exhaust/ Hurricane headers.
Asked for the take-away price for the header and coupling pipe set for an AWD.
Was quoted $885!!!
Bit exxy!!
Especially as RPW are $630 inc GST and Fleabay has the HM Headers for $495.
Has anyone been able to get a better price from Hurricane??

You think that's bad!! They quoted me $1500 fitted! Or $1330 delivered to me!
The exhaust place I'm using in Geelong can't even get a part number for them, reckons they're not even listed.
EZ-Boy reckons he got his for under $600, so I'm thinking group buy? Someone in NSW want to organise this?

Yes, Please ask if there is a way to scam a trade price somehow.
BTW,
I like the design, the extra long primaries should be best for low down power and are part of my plan to deal with the AWD "power hole".
Yes I was being quoted the take - away, i.e. not fitted price.

well yeah, these sort of items usually attract around a 40-50% markup from cost price, so they sell them to you for 700 it might only cost them 380 to buy from there sellers. But they will gain more selling in bulk then individual prices

Ok spoke to A1 Exhausts today and we are looking at Sub $600 for FWD and sub $650 for AWD, he is going to get exact prices for me this week, also we are looking at doing a special price for fitment if you are willing to come to newcastle to get them done.
Also he is going to get me some specs on the Wildcat extractors as well, apparently they are pretty damn decent as well.
Soon as i get confirmed on the pricing ill start the group buy.

Wildcat #245 is listed for the Magen 3.5 V6.
There is no AWD application listed.
Note the comment on the Genie / Wildcat site.
"Wildcat headers are also made here at Genie. Wildcat headers are made to the same standard as our Genie range, but are produced with press bends or crush style bends ,where as Genie are a Full Mandrel bent made header. Wildcat covers a large range of replacement manifold applications, as well as the more budget priced performance market. "
I thnok that this says it all!

well i would love to see a comparison between the two, but at $600 for hurricane that is a great price.
I am definitely in for that. im anxious already. i just want them on my car.
shame installation is in newcastle, not sure if im willing to do it myself, i heard that they aren't quite a direct bolt on for a TL..

Yeah ill find out how different they are for TL's something to do with the cat i believe, but yeah will see how it pans out might get 1 set of both and run em on seperate cars for a bit to see how they go. Arthur said Ians were a piece of cake to install and clear everything with ease.

if there is somebody near wendnarb who has hurricanes installed they should grab the wildcats and do a back to back dyno run. with and without tuning to if possible.
i dont think there will be F.A. difference, but will still be good to compare.
this is the first time I've ever heard of wildcats so will be interesting to see how they compare to the well talked up hurricanes.

Yeah lot of money to install reinstall extractors though. Once i get the specs ill post em up.

not hard to do yourself. im sure somebody would be keen to help for free if it benifits them in getting cheaper extractors. only problem would be that dyno's aren't free, nor tuning for that matter.

swap ya for ya seats i ya want? haha
they were good, only reason i changed was cos i was told by soemone that they wouldnt fit onto a 3.5lt, and i was doing a conversion..
in the end they did end up fitting although i had already ordered my rpw headers so i thought id put the new ones on..

Track me down some TL-TW seats and ill give you the interior + cash adjustment + hell ill prolly come and pick up.
Once i get the specs ill put both up to compare against. I do know that they come with a 2.5inch flex pipe (wildcats).
Will be good if someone purchases wildcats and has them installed at A1 exhausts then we can do some butt dynos as i really dont want to do multiple runs over at Justins as he will probably kill me.

Yeah i got hold of them yesterday, just been caught up with a few things at home.
Rock solid price of $750 Per unit and FWD/AWD same price.
Reason for the cost is that his wholesaler wont budge on bulk order of them. If he sells them any less he is cutting his own throat as the RRP on them are something nuts like 1300 or something along those lines.
Im still happy to do up a group buy if people are still interested. Also got specs on the wildcats, they are a 1 3/4 primaries externally welded, same primary length as Hurricanes and same flex pipe diameter. They are 550 per set FWD/AWD the same.
Let me know.

Might see if my exhaust place here can get them for me at that price. Save myself the postage, maybe.

well that's still over $100 better then Liverpool exhausts.
so how many people does A1 want for this bulk order to work?
hmm, well im assuming the hurricanes are a better product given the $200 price difference, so i might as well do it right and take a set of the hurricanes.
so if your makng a list, put me as a definite.

I saw dad yesterday at the muff shop (A1) and he showed me the current Hurricane pricelist - BLOODY HELL!! The RRP of the Hurricane is like $1300!! At that price there's no bang-for-buck and who the hell would pay that anyway??
I saw a Wildcat install on a FWD a few years ago and the primaries WERE NOT equal length. I have posted LOTS of info on AMC re header performance and comparison between brands.
For the record I run Hurricanes. My AWD's dyno is available for view in the Streetfighter Manifold in the Raptor area. Fuel economy is good, sweet exhaust note esp from 4000+

I went into Hurricane a couple of weeks ago.
Face to face, straight from the computer they quoted me $885 take away.
A year ago they wanted $1300 fitted!!
I have a very distinctive accent, could someone else call Liverpool Exhaust / Hurricane Headers at Moorebank and get a quote over the phone. 02 9602 3111 or 02 9602 3152.
Otherwise the price that RPW charges is excellent, especially for the non-ceramic coated version.

for all these prices that you guys are getting quoted.. you can get a hand fabricated set, that will outperform anything available off the shelf..
