thats frickin awesome

That is actually a very nice looking car!

Wonder if it can be registered?

luuuuuv the intrior trim on it mushroom looks awesome when done right anyone wanna go halves:bowrofl:

Wonder if it can be registered?

Unlikely... It's LHD as well as being a convertible....

It probably would be allowed, but you'd need to get engineers reports made up, and converted to RHD. I can't think of any other way of doing it.

why's it left hand drive?
kinda weird isnt it?

looks freaking awesome

I still say somebody chop theirs open

Might of been made to be shown in America for the import market, i think they have a larger market for convertibles over there.
Someone make a ute out of a wagon already.

nah you dont have to convert to RHD ,as long as its displayed that its a LHD for police to see[just look at the old school jeeps they have it displayed on there spare wheel cover] and the only thing that would be stopping it[according nsw road laws] that it must meet austrailian saftey standards[just like importing a ricer]

:stoopid:
It would pass rego i'd say. Surely would be one of the most unique cars around.

somebody buy it then wack on a sprintex

You may be right.. However, old classic cars come with different regulations. You can apply for LHD rego on a classic car (ie: older than X years)...

However that's just my understanding (like if you import a newish corvette you need to convert it to RHD, but an old one you can leave it as LHD) and I'm open to being proven wrong.

However, having said all that, it's a magna.. How hard could it possibly be to make it RHD... :P

Yeah mate, you take the top half :)

does it have a roof???? i am sooooooo tempted... reckon it would make a collectors item one day??

does it have a roof???? i am sooooooo tempted... reckon it would make a collectors item one day??
nah no roof.

God I would snap that up if I had the money to spare.... Damn saving for property!!!!!!!

That car belongs in this club, someone buy it please...... only 5000 kms!!!!!!!!

I doubt you'd be able to register that in Aus without spending some serious money on things like reinforcement brackets, roll bars etc...

Looks cool though :)

he states it was a mitusbishi test vehicle, test vehicle cannot be road registered, under the bonnet it should have a test vehicle plate and say not for road use,

where i use to work we use to get some of fords test xr8's etc, and there now down at stonebrothers racing as development cars,

p.s. someone posted a pic of this ages ago

dang it.

well heres an idea... how about everyone in the club chip in and we get it as a club promo vehicle??? lol

it's not too overly priced either

ill chuck in $100

you are right.. i think the year was 1986 or something (i could be wrong on the year) but anything before that doesnt have to be converted or LHD displayed. anything newer than that has to be converted to be able to rego it

original thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47007)

pics are down now unfortunately, but i daresay it was the same car (thought it rung a bell!)

no doubt it will have a few last minute bids

In all honesty, what would you do with it? It is LHD, 2000 build and as someone mentioned before test cars cannot be registered. It probably has no re enforcement in its structure ( as i have it on good authority it didn't leave Tonsley as a convertible ). Would you just sit there and look at it for $12.5k? I think not.

I would have wild kinky sex in the back of it, then i could have bragging rights at being the first person to have sex in the back of a convertible magna.

I reckon if you had a red hot go you would snap it in half! The car BTW...

I'm tied between two thoughts...

On one hand I think it shouldn't be touched and just kept as it is for prosperity.

On the other hand, it needs to be supercharged, seriously modded and made into a two door!
Would make a great NATS car.
But if you wanted a NATS car, I guess there's cheaper stock Magna's out there you could cut the roof off.

Not really sure what you'd do to this car unless you were rich and wanted to add it to your car collection or wanted to start a Mitsu/Magna Museum.

Looks interesting though. Wonder why they're not AMC members already.

Info from someone who worked at MMAL: This was a test car for styling for the export market. It is a non-saleable vehicle and can in no way, shape or form be road registered. These types of cars are usually crushed.

its ugly as hell! there are few convertibles done right in this world sadly.

as for the RHD conversion thing.. Cars made after 1994(?) have to be converted, others before hand dont have to be. For some perspective, a Corvette C5 costs around $25,000US to import, and the conversion cost is around $30,000. incredibly though, the local sale price for a converted C5 is over $100,000. Bit of profit to be made.

Actually, I can only assume it has no windows in the doors either...

Well, at least the rear doors, because as we all know the rear windows in the TJ stick up when fully retracted normally due to the windows size and door design.

Saw this the other day at the wreckers across the road from work.. then saw it driving through town later that day..

would be pretty much useless to anyone if it cant be registered..

I remeber working at a mazda dealer 2 years back and they had an evaluation replica of the new CX9, we were the last dealer to see it (it was being tested in tassy) before it went to the crushers.. I did however take it for a quick spin before it left..

My 2 cents is that the fronts a bit too large for a nice looking convertible, it looks a bit out of scale, anyone else think so?
Kinda looks like someones just chopped the roof off, and added rubber skirting...
woulda been cool to seen it done with a hard top, its got the boot space haha

fer0x
25-09-2008, 08:46 PM
i still say somebody do it
surely there are some dirt cheap magnas going around that could just be hacked up into a DIY convertible

would be so worth it, especially in a better colour than that bluey green
maybe white would be good
with a ralliart front bar :P

does it look like it only has four wheel studs??? It would be heavily reinforced already and you buy clip on roofs to suit any car.

MrBaggedTE
03-10-2008, 08:39 AM
Someone just buy the same magna they allready have (model colour ect) and cut the roof off. That way on Sundays when you want to drive it you can just put the plates of the other car on it!

also would work well if you owned 2 cars the same and just had a copy of the plates ;)

PS. im not heaps serious....

Mrmacomouto
03-10-2008, 09:15 AM
As I remeber though the problem is that the body would have to be reinforced so much it would make it a two seater.
