g'day all

I've nearly finished my custom gauge mount. I hate those crap off the shelf ones (looks at gremlin's HKS crap) that just bolt onto the dash looking nothing special, so i decided to have a crack at it myself. This is what i've come up with.

Now its just had one clear so its not its best, plus need to detail up the white PVC pipe i used to get the shape and to mount the gauges. Also its just double sided taped on just to see what it looks like.

So what do you think? Nice or rice?

lookin good i think it will look a lot better once it is secured properly (as in the second photo at the back it is sitting up a little) looking forward to seeing the finished result.

man once finished i rekon that will look awsome!

edit: having a second look, maybe if it didnt stick out to much of the dash, it would look better, does that make sense?

I hate it... Destroys the interior look of your car, sad to say it......

I think the gauge piping is just too long, just looks awkward and out of place like that.

i cant get the bastards any shorter as the gauge inner length is too long and hits the dash. i kept it like that as i didnt want the whole structure sitting too high and being in my line of sight and above the steering wheel

Looks like 3 dicks sprouting from the dash. lol Especially from the passengers side
Your idea is great...But I would of made the top flat and slope down, not outline each cup.
And overall a bit too long.
I gave up on FG'ing ages ago.

Yeah they are too long dude.... can say F you if you like but yeah... 3 dildo's coming outta the dash looks alittle funny. May look better in person but yeah, that pic does it no justice.

Great work though. looks professional.

mate, cut a hole in ur dash, make it so it doesn't look so outta place, and it will blend in with the vacant bit above the aircon vents.... then carbon up the whole dash... that would look schmick!

Top marks for trying something different.
They look a bit long in the 3rd pic but this could also be the camera angle making it look worse.
If you applied a CF finish to the rest of the centre console it may tie it in a bit more.

Going to go against the trend a bit here - I kind-of like them. :shifty:

To be honest I really dont like it, as other people have said wayyyy to long and stick too far out. Either cut into your dash to make it short, have it sit on top, or preferably, mount them on the A pillar. Will be interested to see how the carbon fibre trim turns out when finished though.

Maybe an arch cover over the lot might do some justice me thinks! (like a mini dash cluster whatever ya call it over it)

I also agree with Puck too

^^^

Second on that..

they're sticking out way to far.. recess them in to your dash, and then do your entire dash in the carbon finish, that would be uber cool!

How's about one of these Subaru Impreza WRX gauge pods? The bottom looks flat enough. If not, they could be modified to fit the contour of the 3rd Gen dash.

im thinking of doing the console in silver carbon, we have a roll of it at work from a job they did years ago. This way i get the carbon weave finish and maintain the silver to split up the colour.

hmmm not making a carbon dash, however that would be cool amd there is no way im cutting into my dash, no 2nd chances there.

I will however be doing the top deck of the rear wing next week, and toying with the idea of skinning the roof in carbon in between the rails, just like the new M3

reason i dont like these is because the sit up way too high! my idea was to keep the gauges as low as possible and below the top line of the steering wheel. I've got 5 gauges to install so 2 on the A pillar and 3 on the dash but dont want them obvious to people outside the car

Can't say I'm a fan - what about a single din cluster to go under your headunit and get rid of the stacker?

the hugs and kisses reckons i should make a whole carbon fibre dash. Just need a spare dash that i can make a mould out of and i'd be away. Anyone got one on offer?

Mrmacomouto

Humm, that would probably be illegal as all dash boards must have a soft covering on them to reduce head injury....

However, do it!

go to any wrecker... ur lucky u don't have an airbag... i just think ur car needs something more.. custom/special than the din slots... to 'cheap' lookin for my liking..

why do u need to mould the whole dash? why not just coat it carbon?

nothing will stick to the vinal, believe me i've thought of that. another reason to make a mould is so i can make the dash and the cluster one, no joins no nothing. It would be easy to make, just time and effort required

Took me an hour and cost me $40 to get another dash from the wreckers So i'd say just go grab one and experiment till your hearts content!
