Looking at getting some window tint soon, so was wondering which company you used to get yours done? who you recommend/dont recommend? and which company's will go lower than the legal 35%? JM

Where do you live? I could tell you where I got mine done, but it was done in the sticks, so I doubt it'd be very helpful to you :)
Most tinters would do under 35% too - just ask.

im in the nillumbik area. i was thinking tint-a-car as ive herd only good things from them (closest being box-hill). but my mate got 8% done at tint proffesor (they just didnt give him a reciept). i dont want that dark, just like 25% or something 35 just isnt dark enough LOL

Dont go to Tint Professor, I had to take these tools to office of fair trading before they tried to fix my tint, ended up with all the material covered trims in by Verada destroyed.
Their excuse, my windows were faulty
I will only use tint a car now

Tint Professor in Nunawading. I've had 3 cars tinted there:
- My Verada (20%)
- My old RAV4 (35%)
- My parent's Aurion (35%)
Haven't had any issues at all

Yeh 20% isn't too bad at night. If there are no street lights then forget about it but i do have a night vision reversing camera so reversing has never been an issue thus far.
I always find the smaller and more independant the company, the better. Ive always stayed away from tint professor and tint a car etc, not to say they are dodgy but ive just never bothered with em.
20% is totally fine, youll never have an issue with it as far as visibility goes. i had 5% on my rear window and wont do it again.. next car will be getting 10% rear and back sides, and 20% fronts

So the differing tints don't look funny?

yer thats wat i was going to ask? cause im thinking like 20/25% on sides and 35 on back (just to be safe)
how does tint %ages go anyway? is there only specific perceteges made like 35 then 20 then 15 then 8 and 5 or can u go any number?

nsw the darkest legal is 36% allround.
i went 20% on my back window, and 35% on the sides, 20% looks better, but i hate parking at night even with the 35% so its a compromise really,

before you buy tint for your car go into premier tint in dandenong, he will give you 50% off if you let him know you are a member of the australian magna club, i went in there today he sid 20% normally $495, half price for me because i'm a member... pm me if you want the number or address...
I am looking for mirror tint for the ladys yaris, 20% mirror.
I have had 5% before too, its crazy dark at night but awesome durring the day. I was thinking a 35 on the front would be nice too.

That is where I went (P)Rick was the person who I spoke to, the drivers window he cut off the corner, looked dreadful, the rear windows had more bubbles than an aquarium, RH Rear quater window full of bubbles and peeling of top edge. LHF from memory was peelung up from the bottom
I took it to them, Rick tried to tell me my car had faulty glass????? When they replaced it the car was drowned and the rear window demister only worked on about 4 strips after that. Took it to Tint A Car and they were happy to remove the rubbish for free and replace the tint with theirs, never looked back

About 3 years ago but went with ARMA tint
Got 20% tint lifetime warrenty, no bubbles so far, they even noted down any imperfections in the glass to being with. Pretty good service and product, was a while back but paid under $300 to get old ****ty tint off and new tint on

when i got my rear window retinted cause it was stuffed, the guy there told me u can go as dark as u want on the rear windows now due to all the imports coming into the domestic market with this type of tinting already done. and as stated, in nsw 35% is the darkest u can go and no the older than 1996 law doesnt work :P they have ways to check if the tint was done before then, or done recently but i wont go there.

For those people who have 20% tint, do you think its wiser if im going 20% on the sides that i should get 20% on the back aswell? or will having 35% on the back, make night driving alot easier? if that makes sense. Cheers. JM

This will look very very silly. Typically your rear window should be a shade darker than your side windows, because it lets in more light and "appears" lighter than the sides when using the same shade tint all round. Using lighter tint than the side windows wont match as good.
For example when i get tint i'll be getting 30-35% on the sides, and 20% on the back.

As a side note thats also darkest legal. 35% Sides, 20% rear.

isnt the legal requirement for the sides only apply to the front 2 windows the rear 2 sides can have any percentage ?

Yer ive gotta feeling about that too. you can legally have like 5% on ur rear (passenger) windows, but ur front and front side windows have specific % requirments.

I would of thought, because the rear window is always reflecting off the sky that it wouldnt really matter because you'd never be able to see in it, cause tint works that way doesnt it? if you look straight at it you can see in it, but once you look at it on an angle than it reflects and you cant see in at all??

If your vehicle has 2 side mirrors you can go as dark as you want on the rear windows, but 35% is darkest legal on the front side windows.
I'm not sure how tint works exactly, but i do know that the rear appears to let more light in, I think due to the increased surface area. I also know that 35 sides, 20 rear is a good combo and looks even.

$180 is about $100 cheaper than what you'd normally pay for 20%. People seem to be able to achieve sub $250 for whatever level tint they want though without too much effort on here, its pretty good now with the competition involved between a few major companies.

3 or 4 weeks ago, got the rada tinted - its 2 or 3 shades darker than legal all round i know that much (just not the percentage)
you cannot see into the car during the day, and at night well forget it!
i paid 450 for mine - which included removal of the old (and still perfectly fine tint), its got a lifetime warrenty - mine was on the books as well, just on the receipt they wrote "applied tint at owners request"
that way, they are free(er) of legality issues (thats the way i see it anyhow)
speaking of warrenty, took the car back down to them thisarve, as i noticed the drivers window has a bubble/tear and ripple in it, lady i spoke to had no problems at all asking me to bring the car back to them next week, and they will remove and reapply the tint on that window for free for me.
when the car was there first time, they didnt click the delta tweaters back in properly and i just noticed today that a door seal is twisted - fixed the tweater panel on the spot for me the next day, and are going to fix the door seal for me as well next week. (wont be replacing it, but straightening it out - its twisted over on itself)
the tint i got, is about 800ish rrp - but i got it cheaper coz we do a lot of work for them at a great rate.
i went to TintMaster - dunno if they are elsewhere in qld / aus tho!

I'm doing a DIY job this weekend, cost me just under $100 for everything including tools and hopefully not more than about 3-4hrs of my time.
I will report back with how it goes and post up a DIY thread.......

Nah of course...Did you do much ringing around of prices?
These days the tint seems to be of a very high quality with even better backup of these products through the company's who install them...thats why i thought $450 was a bit much
