Item: EOI: Chrome mirror trim - 3rd gen side mirrors.
Location: USA.
Item Condition: New.
Reason for selling: See below.
Price: Approximately USD$20.00.
Payment Method: Cash, EFT.
Extra Info: See below.
Pictures: See above.
I am considering purchasing a pair of these trims from a vendor on eBay Motors (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230295260949) (USA). A large part of the price I will be paying is postage. Postage is USD$15.00 for the first set and then $4.00 for each subsequent set - a considerable discount.
In the circumstances, if anybody would like to join in a bulk buy, I would be happy to split the cost of postage across all of us. For instance, if we have six people, postage will be USD$35.00 (1 x $15.00 + 5 x $4.00), so we would pay about USD$5.85 each. This means we each save about USD$10.00.
If you would like to see what these will look like on your car, I suggest you refer to this post made by Mohit (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showpost.php?p=907026). The original eBay Motors item description is here:-
http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230295260949I will allow about a week for people to get in touch with me (PM (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/private.php?do=newpm&u=13040) or email (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/sendmessage.php?do=mailmember&u=13040)) and I will post here shortly before I complete the eBay purchase. Obviously a number of matters are beyond my control, including the vendor's preparedness to re-list the item and the vendor's stock levels. However, I think it should all work, and if it does, it will be a lot cheaper than each of us making individual purchases.
Those who have already expressed interested are listed here.

For those considering this, keep in mind you have to cut the trim to size before applying it to the rear view mirrors. Very easy installation.

Thanks Glenn, but is there any way of putting some sort of signpost in the For Sale section?
I say this because the majority of interested parties for a group buy such as this will be keeping their eyes on the For Sale section, rather than the Magna Mods section. There have been two nibbles already when it was in "For Sale".
Just a thought - it's up to you.

How easy is it to get the join looking neat and tidy?
Is postage to our respective address included? i.e. interstate? I'm assuming it isnt?

Without ever seeing a 2nd Gen mirror up close i can't say for sure but if the circumference of the mirror housing is as long as that of a 3rd Gen mirror then i can't see it being a poblem.

Depends on how good your cutting tool and cutting skills are :) Since the trim is semi-rigid (it comes coiled), i test fitted it to the mirror by holding it in place with masking tape. I then marked the trim where i would cut it, took it off the mirror and cut it on a bench. I found it easier to remove the mirror off the door and applying the trim to it on the bench.

Good point, hadn't thought of that. That will probably add a couple of dollars to the price for those who can't pick up from Dulwich Hill or Sydney CBD.

That's it mate
you get 5 meters for $20, so I would just go and buy 5 meters then randomly cover parts in your car with the spare 4.5 meters of trim left.
Or do what this guy on ebay is doing, and sell it as a "chrome mirror trim" kit :doubt:

This is another option as well. Had i originally known that this existed i prolly would have bought it locally. But having said that, i haven't had any problems with the stuff i bought off eBay.

If that's correct, and the chrome mirror surround is just common or garden "sticky chrome trim" as opposed to some specially fabricated surround, then there probably is no point in importing it.
I will check out SuperCheap Auto some time this week and report back with my findings. Others are invited to to likewise. In the meantime this thread should probably remain open - if TUFFTR is correct, there are going to be a few of us with 4.5m of spare trim!

I never said the trim i bought off eBay is exactly the same as the trim that is sold at auto shops as i've never seen it or knew it existed until [TUFFTR] mentioned it to me at the meet last week.
And for that reason alone i can't say whether the trim sold at auto shops will work as well as the eBay one as i don't know it's thickness, rigidity, etc. so can't comment on something i don't know about.
But if others say it will work the same as the eBay trim then by all means go for it.

my mate picked up something similar (or same thing not sure) as what u guys are talking about from autobarn, they were these straight chrome strips that are folded in half and just slip in between panels and you just cut to site and glue on. (we put it on my mates bootlid, just onto on the number plate) point is, they work, not the most flexible stuff - they defenetly work in straight lights; not 100% sure how well it would work wrapped around, maybe if u could by thinner material itd work better. but as its been said prior there cheap so doesnt really matter if u buy it and it doesnt work, because theres lots of places on ur car u can stick chrome strips :D LOL but itd be worth someone having a crack at it first. just to add an extra 2c; the ebay ones look to be a bit different than the autobarn ones, probably more effective as there made to wrapped.
