I've spent all day painting my brake calipers and now i want to paint the rotors (i think this is what they are called) because they are rusty

do i need to try and mask the disk up or should i try and spray neatly and the paint that gets on the disc will wear off?

thanks

I'd mask up the braking surface.

use a wire brush and sugar soap to get all the rust off first.

then use a spray on brake cleaner to clean the disk surfaces before you put them back on.

I would leave a little bit of the rotor surface painted to give you a nice crisp line. It will smell for a few days of paint when you drive it but look sheet hot.

And be careful not to block off any ventilation holes with excess paint.

what i ended up doing was painting the rotors with pot belly black paint and a fine brush

this way very little got on the disc
will be posting pictures tomorrow once all is done

i used detailing tape to outline the edges (took me *** AGES) then filled in the middle with masking tape, minimal paint got on the rotor, although i will say high temp my ass, did one hills run and it had mostly burnt off

I wouldn't bother masking it up... It all burns off anyway, just go somewhere quiet/high speed limit and do some big stops to burn it off.

When i did mine i took the calipers and the Discs off the car to do it, wasnt going to risk overspray over the car as that stuff can travel :doubt:

Mask up the pad contact face of the rotor. Or, go to town on the rotor with paint and have it machined afterwards. Either way, i wouldnt get paint on the friction surfaces as it contaminates the pad material.

Good call....
That's what I did also...
Gives you a much better finish and better coverage of paint.

Spray can travel all over the place....

Red all the way!
And the twin pots are the same as an EVO3, so why not paint my EVO brakes red?

yeh originally i wanted them black
but this way they stand out a bit and dont look ridiculous

and c'mon it just red paint
with a budget like mine id much rather pay 15 bucks for a can of paint rather than $1000+ for brakes
my car brakes fine as it is

paint is much more justifiable
