Just had my 105k service and my mech tells me that the middle or first resonator needs replacing....

question is do i put a new one in or just put a straight pipe in..

and if i do...is it going to be louder or dronier...???

Yes,replace it if you dont want more resonance or drone than it had previously,as this is what they are designed to do

It will sound very similar just have a touch more growl to it. First mod I do to most cars, without replacing the whole system.

It won't increase fuel econemy, it wont increase power, it wont lose back pressure, it will just alter the sound a touch.

If you are after a cheap solution and don't mind the noise, then just put straight pipe in.

Just put a straight pipe in. It didn't make any difference to sound when I replaced mine.

The east-west 24valvers are hard to get a decent note out of and if you have an auto, kids or a women you want to impress then keep the resonators - don't settle for a hotdog (cheap rubbish with f-all glass pack), get a proper resonator with a quality name and lots of glass pack. If you run without resonators the car will start to sound on the tinny side, not the delishish deep note that everyone is chasing.

all magna's i've heard without resonators have that high pitched tinny rattle... keep one in there!

yeah....redback.....guy had to cut about 150 mm to make it fit....

breaths better...doesnt drone and not that much louder but pops wickedly on overun....

mine doesnt :P but then again ive got the 3" system. it has a pretty unique LOUD sound, some of my friends have said it sounds similar to a 300zx/supra :nuts: lol but i love its note :)
