Hi everyone
Well I'm a bit puzzeled right now and sad that my ralliart brake conversion couldnt be completed. Reason why.....
Well I have a TJ VR-X and painfully close to getting the ralliart calipers and rotors fitted I've been hanging out so long for. WELL got a call today with the news that the rear dust covers on my TJ arent big enough to accomodate the ralliart rotors. NOOOOO
SO.... does anyone out there have or know where I can get some rear Magna Ralliart REAR brake dust shields/covers so I can complete the conversion
I have rung Mitsi, nothing avail, rung all major Mitsi wreckers in SA, nothing avail so anyones assistance much appreciated.
Willing to purchase from anywhere in Oz

Modify the covers, ideally you shoudl have them but if you look at a lot of cars made in the early - mid 90's they had nothing at all.
Can see no reason why they can not be flattened to cope with the larger rotors

OK, I wasnt sure caus the dealership hasnt suggested that we remove them but hey I'm no expert on this
Modify the curled bit at the end so that it clears the disc/caliper.
Tin snips then file smooth and it will look factory.

Pulled my front dust covers off some time ago when I upgraded to the evo4/ralliart/awd brakes, as I was advised removing them would allow more airflow on the track.
Havn't experienced any problems with them off (done several track days and lots of daily kms), not real sure what their purpose is:nuts:
IMO if they don't fit, just get rid of them.

Not 100% certain, but isn't it part of the ADR's that you need dust covers (if you care about that sort of thing)?

Its to stop rocks getting between the pad and caliper i think, but unless you do off roading in it i wouldnt bother.

dust covers are absolutely extraneous. if they were necessary, you'd have the whole brake setup covered by something, and then you wouldn't be able to see the nice shiny painted calipers everyone's got.
the fronts come off with a couple of bolts.
the rears come off with a little bit of grindage. make sure you keep the hand brake seal (little lip towards the inside) on the rears, as you really don't want anything getting into your handbrake drum.
if you don't want to remove them completely, take the outer lip off with a grinder and file them to remove the sharp edges.
I cannot find any mention of brake covers in the ADRs. will keep searching and post back if I do.

Which is what I did too. Again no probs with engineering or rego

Contrary to popular belief, Standard rear shields are big enough for Ralliart reat rotors and calipers. I know because I have my standard shields still on. All you have to do is bend them back a little if they touch. It's close but 100% okay. I've had this setup 2 years - no dramas - and no scrapping.

Yep Ralliart magnas used the standard magna brake shields front and back. Having said that ive cut my rear ones down.

So why are my rear ralliart calipers scraping on the dust shields?? Well something is anyway. Do i needs this spacer wooks speaks of in his rear rotor group buy? Anyway all good info, thanks

I remember looking into this some time back, and somewhere in 2002 they changed over from the original dust shields on the Magnas to the Ralliart spec which must have allowed more room. I guess it was just easier to stock and manufacture one dust shield instead of 2.
You must obviously have the 1st series of shield !!! As for the spacer, what rear rotors are you using, Ralliarts or AWD. The spacer is only for the AWD rotor on a FWD car, if you use the spacer on the Ralliart rotors, all that will do is extend the rotor out 3.7mm and your calipers won't fit.
