Hey guys,
getting a new suspension insulator installed as we speak, the front right suspension makes a horrid cracking noise when you go over bumps,
the strut is alo gettin re-alligned
just wanted to know if you had a rough idea how much that would cost, ill compare it to the invoice i get, also what exactly do they mean by re-aligning the strut or suspension?
Cheers

ok it cost $198.90
and for that I got:
New Suspension Insulater + Fitting + Re-aligning
New Leather Gear Surround + Fitting.
So i was pretty happy.

That actually sounds pretty cheap to me, even just for suspension as its a fair bit of labour. Be happy :D

I'm sorry but what exactly in a suspension insulator?
I've worked in the motor industry for over 10 years and have never heard of one...
the only basic parts of the front suspension in the magna's are lower control arm, hub, strut, spring and strut top.

well im guessing its another term for the bump stop. and i am taking a complete guess but i think its something that goes between the strut and the body of the car or replaces the item that makes contact with the body. i really have no idea but that sounds like what it could be. lol
AND THE MECHANIC OF TEH YEAR AWARD GOES TO BEEF!!!! LOL
and it stopped the horrible noise, so whatever it was fixed it so i dont really care. lol

could be the little rubber gasket if you will that goes on top of the strut top, betwen the body of the car.
If the strut was making that kind of noise its possible and likely the strut top hat needed to be lubed up a little where it makes contact with the shockie shaft

nope they have a bearing in them and cost around $130 each give or take for the whole strut top. And they don't use a rubber gasket where they bolt into the body.

It could well be the spring insulator that sits in the cradle on the strut that supports the spring at the bottom, they are fitted from factory should be replaced when changing springs etc or you will get sounds as there will be creaking and noises etc due to metal to metal contact between the spring and the "seat" of the strut, only other part it could be is bump stop

Loud noises or quiet noises? I have noise a bit like chassis squeak but it's definitely coming from the rear suspension. My shocks we replaced in late 2006.

Put a supercharger in the rear so you can't hear any noises from the back :D

i knwo they have a bearing in them, i was just saying its possible that some form of lube was needed on them because (long story short) i was in a rush one day so i had the local mechanics fit the springs to my struts and i picked up after work and installed only to find they would creek, groan and make cracking noises... i pulled them out myself and foudn that all that was needed was a touch of great between the spring hat and the strut top, where the mating surface is. There was grease there when i pulled them off but they were done dry and i got them back but thought nothing of it. Still working noise free to this day, 18months down the track.
As for the rubber gasket/seal its about .5mm thick and came off my stock struts, it sits over the top hat where the bolts are that pass up into the engine bay/ strut tower. NVH reduction is their pupose.
