Hey Audiophiles, I could use some help here.

I've a TN Elite sedan, currently with the factory audio. This needs to be changed, as the head unit no longer fast forwards, and I've blown my passenger side speaker.

Existing system: Shallow 4" speakers in the dash, firing into the windscreen. 6x9 rear speakers. Double DIN head unit.

What I want: Sounding good! I'm looking for a multimedia (DVD/MP3) headunit, and I have a 7in TFT SingleDIN foldout screen that I was considering using.

Budget for system is around $400. I'm pulling the car down in a few weeks as part of a manual conversion, so fitting speakers and extra wiring isn't too difficult.

Uh, thanks?

As I said before, Get a $500 strathy special. 2 pairs of speakers, HU, 4channel amp, and sub in a box...Easy, simple, will sound pretty good for $500.

I agree with Tuff here. your $400 limit will make things hard if you want to source individual components to build up the system.

Other than that though, you will have to go 2nd hand for better prices.

$400... that's tough. Definitely second hand if you want anything quality in there.

This is what I picked up for mine to give you some idea -
Alpine SPR-17LS splits - $160
Alpine SWR-1221S sub, cosmetic damage - $140 (generic box, $60... could've made one myself but don't have the resources ATM)
Jaycar 2x150WRMS amp - $130 (for sub)
Jaycar 2x100WRMS amp - $30 (for splits)

Forgot to mention, secondhand is fine. I'm aware of the tightness of the budget.
