i wanna clean the throttlebody on the car
the can of the cleaner says to spray it in on the fly and the TB and then wipe with a rag or something
without taking the TB off the car, how do you get in there? would it be ok to spray and let the car run?
how do you guys do it?

Usually easier to pull the TB off, if its a 3rd gen, its 4 bolts 2 coolant lines, throttle cable, 1-3 vaccum lines and disconnect the TPS and ISC, takes no more then 5min to remove it, that way you can use a soft toothbrush to get in and really clean it out properly.

Its a 5min job if that, just be sure to put the gasket back in the right way.

thanks heaps man, cleaned it today. so much oil residue on and around it. didnt spray anything into the surge tank (the bit past the TB), instead i sprayed the cleaner into a rag (to clean the parts i can reach) and toothbrush (to reach a bit further) and cleaned it that way.
straight after i put everything back together i turned the car on and let it warm up. the base idle jumped about 300 rpm (which i have already turned down via the TPS) and it idles smoother. well worth the 20 minutes i spent on pulling everything apart, cleaning and putting everything back together.
now just to go to mitsubishi and get them to set the idle screw and TPS properly, see if it needs any changes (the reason i take it to mits is cause the local one does it for me for free and they do a better job than anyone else whos done it)

As for the idle screw - grab yourself a Haynes manual, find out the cold and warm idle range, and adjust it yourself, 30seconds of work.
TPS you can adjust yourself within a minute or so - Haynes manual will show you how in eithercase.

yeah i read it, seems a bit of stuffing around with the screw. mits is much more efficient and accurate with the MUT thing. then the TPS isnt difficult to adjust to the idle i want it at, but like i said, i dont pay anything for it and after the last time they adjusted it the car was running fantastic

Yeah if your not paying for it then yeah who cares, but if they were going to charge you for it different story :D
