After some fun and games with a bloody american set of tools, the sump plug is all but bugga'd, need to change it over for the next time ive got to change the oil, anyone with a quick answer just tell me the diameter of the actual screw for the sump plug? i know the bolt head is 24mm yada yada but just after the screw diameter size...Anyone?

Cheers in Adv.

So the thread is buggered? Hopefully you didn't strip the thread on the sump.

If you call up Mitsubishi parts dept. they should be able to give you the thread diameter for the sump plug.

Just buy a new sump bolt from a dealer - dirt cheap. And use a torque wrench when you do it up. Use a monkey wrench to undo the b'gd one, or an angle grinder.

Then you might wanna pick up a thread repair kit and\or get someone to do that for you. :)

i don't know the size and by the sounds of it neither does anyone else so i think the dealer would be your best best. Bolts are cheap as.

From memory it is a 12 x 1.25 thread I would have to measure one up to be sure

YOu can go to the dealer, only a few bucks. Be careful if you are going oversize as there is not a lot of metal in the sump to tap into.

yeah nah, it was the bolt head i stripped, was just going to replace the bolt itself, pretty sure **crosses fingers** the thread is fine, i didnt cross thread it or anything...

It's impossible to cross thread one of these. BUT it is possible to round off the head, especially if it was tightened too much and you use a badly fitting spanner/socket on it.
Been there, done that - out came the angle grinder.

If its a 4 cylinder Astron, I'm fairly sure it is 14mm, same size as a spark plug. I lost the sump plug washer on my 1st gen. and am using a spark plug washer instead.
