View Full Version : Just a few questions (steering wheel problems and lovells super lows)!

I have a TL and I was wondering does anyones steering wheel slightly turn to one side when the front wheels are travelling perfectly straight?
Because when I first got my car with everything stock, my steering wheel slightly turned to the left when I take my hands of the wheel for a few seconds and let the car travel straight. It feels awkward driving straight with your hands holding the steering as if you are veering off the road. Then when I got my 19s put on, it made things slightly worse. Then when the right front tyre was moved to the left rear and vice versa (because the tyres on the right side of the car got buckled due to driving through a massive pothole at 3am), my steering wheel turns to the right when my car is travelling perfectly straight. I have 2 brand new tyres on the rear and my steering wheel still turns to the right.
Also when I get Lovells super lows front and rear, how much will the springs sag?
Any replies would be much appreciated.

Did you have your wheels properly balanced and steering alignment done when you changed wheels/suspension? If not, do it! if so, take your car back to whoever did it for you and get them to fix it.

I pretty sure the wheels were properly balanced and steering alignment was done properly because Bob Jane did it and my Dad and I have never had any problems with them apart from this. Also I currently have stock suspension.

Well if your tyres have directional tread on them, they would have different traction with the road and will steer differently. Same concept as having different brand tyres on the fronts.
Having two new tryes on the back makes no difference, it is only the front ones that will effect your steering
BTW, kings or lovells springs shouldn't sag, they are both are reputable brands and should hold their shape for years
Damn. I'd be happy if my Kings sagged :) I'd be even lower.

Needs an alignment, if its really pulling badly to the left (like mine is atm from hitting a huge pothole) chances are you need a caster adjustment kit to get it all ship shape again.

no his not saying the cars pulling to the left only the steering wheel
it means instead of sitting flat it tilts to the left, but the car will still drive straight
mine does the same thing sometimes, but mostly when stopped at the lights it'll just tilt to the left just before i stop
got an alignment and it still did the same thing so who knows

The Shadow knows.
Perhaps yours is brakes? Does the tiller ever wobble when you brake hard?
As for OP, just move your steering wheel - easy! Pop off the horn pad, undo the nut and correct it, but make sure your wheels are straight when you do it or you'll exaggerate it more. Same thing happened to me so that's what I did, probably a logical and reasonable reason why it happens and it'll probably hurt the car so in your own best interest, perhaps ignore my advice.

Kings have a warranty on sagging, and they wont sag unless you have done a craptonne of k's (200,000+)
And yeah sounds like a wheel alignment issue.

Forget wheel balance, I am miffed why this is always the first fix.
Wheel balance will cause a vibration, not a wheel to be off centre.
Thre are several causes for off centre wheel
The wheel aligner may have not straightened the wheel correctly when they did the last allignment. This will cause exactly the issue you have without causing the car to wander.
i am also concerned about your putting the real left on the front right. You are now rotating a wheel in the oppersite direction. This will cause drag and can cause wander, but you do not seem to ahve an issue with the car wandering.
Get your arms and joints checked as if you hit hard enough to buckle wheels you may have damaged more.
First stop though is definately checking your wheel allignment, do not remove the wheel, get the allignment done properly to start with

you could just move your sterring wheel as already suggested but i agree that it could be more and to check steering arm and joints i know a couple of people that have had this problem and it was something to with the steering arms

lol What?
Disconnect battery, Take off airbag and horn pad, disconnect the SRS cable, move steering wheel. Not that difficult?

I agree, I would definatley have the wheel alignment checked, as Ive seen this issue before, were the car is tracking straight, but the steering wheel is of centre,
I would would also tell the operator, that the car is traveling straight but the wheel is off centre, so they can pay close attention to this.

true!
but not as easy as no air bag... 3 steps were left out as you've noted :)
