weird thing tonight

i have a 92 TR 2.6 injected auto

started it to go to g/f's house and was warming it up as per normal and then it stalled. sounded as if it ran out of fuel or something. then straight after the round black thing (starter?) on the drivers side firewall started clicking like crazy till i turned the key all the way to off.

turned it back on, stalled again, quicker this time and it started clicking again, turned the key to off and it was clicking for another about 5 seconds after.

turned it on again and it was running without stalling for a good 5 minutes before i decided to cancel my trip and wait till the morning.

today i changed the fuel filter and did a bit of re-wiring on my stereo. doubt it would have anything to do with the stereo as i had disconnected the negative.

after i spent the day on it i went for a drive to the shops and it was running fine

any ideas?

thanks

Alex

Try to identify the black thing on the firewall that is clicking.
Could be the fuel pump relay, but that is behind the glovebox!

I can tell you now that that is your brake booster, no idea why it would be clicking though.

Oh, and your car needs the spice lid mod :D

hmmmmmm.. ok, just sounded like it was coming from that area and that seemed to be the loudest. there's also a black cylinder located under it, not sure what it is, its hard to get to. and the only other things in the area are the fuel filter and wiper motor, so i doubt theyd be causing it.

When was the last time you replaced your battery? The fact that it clicks (if loud) could be your starter turning. The starter is located closest to the firewall and is a black cylindrical type mechanism which bolts into the Gearbox (top rear corner). It could be that your battery has dropped a cell or something.

are you sure the clickingis not coming from the passenger side kick panel inside the cabin??
Which is about the same place for you to depressureise (sp?)your fuel system when changing your fuel filter.
if i was in your shoes id put some injector cleaner in the tank then change the fuel filter.(which you have done)
the black thing in the pic it the servo that sits behind you master cly for the brakes. there's no chane it's clicking cos there's nothing in there to click , but the one way valve may be faulty causing not enough vacum but that just means the brake need pumping up to work, which shouldn't cause you to stall.

id look at you dizzy/dizzy plug/rotor button/leads/coil/spark plugs/blocked injector possibly computer but doubt that.
my tp was having the same problem last year, after putting a new dizzy in it fixed it. id also degrease all of your engine bay and clean all of the connections.
even give the dizzy contactsand rotor button a light sand with wet and dry papper.

sounds very possible cause its definitely coming from the drivers side. would it stall after being started though?

ill check and clean the connections anyway, could never hurt.

as with the injector cleaner, ive been running it for the last few weeks and i only ever fill up with 98 v-power.. i think the injectors still need a clean either way (maybe help with my fuel economy) but thats a different issue

Not entirely sure, but I've heard of it happening before.
