View Full Version : Paint!
Hey guys,
A few quick questions - My front bumper is screwed, so I'm going to attempt to paint it myself with Peter_Pan's gear :)
I need to know:
1. What type of paint do I need?
2. How much paint do I need to do: Front bumper, rear bumper, bonnet, drivers side guard, boot lid, drivers side door, skirts, and door handles.
3. How much would the above cost, est? Including primer and clearcoat
4. Where can I find said paint?
Cheers,
Dean

1: 2 pack arcylic
2: prolly 2l will be more then enough once thinned down.
3: proper paint about 40-80 bucks a litre depending on quality + clearcoat (another 40-80) + primer (25 bucks a litre)
4: panel beaters is your friend here or anyone able to deal with house of kolor.

Thanks for the reply, I did a little reading and apparently its definately not a good idea to use 2-pack in an area like a shed. Also it said it takes a very long time to dry.

Yes, as its hamful if you inhale it (cataylst is cyanide) and needs a booth temp and humidity controlled.
Best bet is to get it done professionally.

Single pack will look like an amateur crappy job. Do a job once do it right. No idea on single pack maybe 20 bucks or so a litre?

Make your you pick a hot day to do if your gonna do a backyarda. if your shed gets up to about 60 degrees ull be sweet, would only take a few hours LOL.
......Prob worth finding someone with the facilites to do it. OR find somewhere here who can paint and hire out a paint booth on a saturday and do it that way (ring round a few panelbeaters see if they can help out), getting best of both worlds really. cheap and u get a good finish. make sure most of your work goes into prepping the bumper (most important part). Best of luck.

Dont say that!
Thats what my motto WAS, and now I'm down even more money after trying it myself and in the end deciding to get it done right.
Mate if money is still an issue, keep saving, and get it done properly, dont do the exterior in acrylic....wont come anywhere near as glossy and isnt anywhere near as hard as enamel.
do it once do it right, and learn from me, ive done things 3 times before learning to do it the right way

Haha nice. I was just talking to YLD35L. He gave me a good price so I think I'm gonna get that done in the next couple of weeks.
If I like the work I'll save for a bit and get a full closed-door respray in Starlight White (I think thats the colour on the TL's?).

If you do a shed job, try and get some steel mesh to put on the floor under the car, stops dust and dirt being flicked up by feet and hoses etc, also allows you to run water over the floor to get rid of said dirt and crap.

i just finished painting my side skirts in white, white is beautiful to spray, and comes up glossy as...(after spraying metallics which is hard).
it took me three weekends to do it because everytime i tried, i got the best finish but then a bloody bug would land on it. Anyway
Theres a guy at oak flats that quoted me only $200 to get my front bumper done, in proper two pack, and according to wollongong verada, you cant fault his work. If you need him lemme know,
and 1300 for a full respray OMG thats cheap!!!!! Must post pics after if you get that done.

My insurance paid $850 to have a small dent removed out of my front left quater panel and the panel respray
i thought it was so expensive as theyd have to blend it but they didnt touch the rest of the car
