View Full Version : I busted my parker circuit

I am getting really good at breaking things lately :(

I crossed two wires and short circuited my (ON) circuit and I have now taken out the parkers circuit.

No instrument lighting (lights behind it still work like the P/R/N/D etc.), no console backlighting or clock light, and no parkers at the front or rear of the car.

I have checked every fuse in the cabin and also swapped the relay in the engine bay for parkers.

Where else should I check?????

Thanks for your help in advance!!!!

even tho you've checked the fuses doesnt mean that they are still good
try replacing them with new ones :)

This was a very amusing thing to watch. It was daylight when he did it though, guess he didnt figure it out till later.

anyways:

Due to the nature of the short:

Bulbs on that circuit
Fuses in kick panel AND engine bay
and finally, all the wiring involved (You did melt wiring pretty badly)

What exactly where you doing with the car working on the electrics with the ignition still on? If you are lucky its a small break in one of the fuses that you cant see, worse case you have cooked some wiring somewhere in the car and has melted itself onto the chassis meaning that it will not operate.

magna00 - Pete found 2 random wires and didn't know what they were - Joined them together and started the car. Stripped the 2 wires about 4 inches down and burned himself trying to disconnect them.

Well actually I was just telling Dean (Life) that I didn't bother unplugging the battery when doing minor electrical work so I didn't lose my EQ setting on my headunit :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

Pardon my ignorance but which fuse is for the tail lights, am i missing something obvious?

How are you checking the fuses?,get yourself a test light and do it properly the first time, and if you have used a test light and they still are ok,leave them alone as they are fine as a fuse cannot be on and off intermitantly,it works or it is knackered,no inbetween, also check the fuses unde the bonnet,if not,you have burnt wires behind the dash etc which can be expensive

magna00,he could have been looking for a switched 12 volt supply or similar that you can only find with the ignition on or testing a circuit etc, likewise he could have shorted a permanent 12volt supply to ground by accident, but that should have only blew the fuse and not melted wiring etc, unless you have buggered around with the fuse values that is!

Thanks for the advice, I took the bottom dash cover off, and had two wires dangling there, one with a female connector and one with a male, the male one was grounded. I thought to myself, well they probably should be together so i plugged them in, essentially directly grounding my ON circuit. Strange why my parkers are ****ed now..... i did some pretty funky wiring while getting my alarm system in including full central and remote start and i have also installed a relay so the parkers will only come on when the ON circuit is on (this prevents them from draining the battery when the key is out) - maybe ive buggered something there

Its hard to diagnose without being there, but if fuses etc check out ok and globes etc are in working condition and its still being a bastard, then i dare say its off to the local leccy for a check up,tell me this ,what car is that fuse box cover from, cos they look like the new Micro fuses in the spare holes, (only on really new cars) or it just could be my bad eyes !(mum always said it would send me blind lol )

Nah they are normal fuses, i cant work out which one is meant to be the parker fuse.....

the under bonnet relay seems to be okay, im thinking i could have blown the relay used to turn the parker circuit on and off with my ingition.....

I will have to check it out tomorrow, too late tonight

FIXED IT!!!!!!!

Looks like I bumped some wiring with dodgy connectors under the dash somehow.

All running ok now but I'll solder it up tomorrow :D

Thanks for your help anyway dudes (Especially Life on MSN)

You blew the 15A Tail light fuse in the engine bay yes?

Nah I had some of those dodgy blue wire joining clips (that join two wires together) that I was meaning to replace. One of them decided to fully chop off a wire. Gotto solder them all sometime soon lol

Just as a precaution.

If any wires have melted - i'de be checking very closely how far up this has gone.

Or soon you might be putting in for an insurance claim for 1 burnt magna.
