Perhaps you should try looking at a free air sub insted? that way you're not getting all the weight, but still adding in some nice bass - that wont be too much for the small car.

Hey Guys...
WOW, thanks for the speedy replys.
Im not really intersted in a free air sub, as I ALSO do not have the room...(Recon Ill be struggling to fit the Amp's in due to the Carbing 4pt strutbrace in the boot...
Unless they are 6.5" that is...
Im also worried about the cross over points of the Focals compaired to the Diamonds. I also thng both speakers have a different 'sound' to them...
I want to TRY an match them. Apparently DLS sound similar to Diamond...(You can no longer buy Diamond In Australia...)

Alex

my mate had a set of 5.25 DLS splits which sounded great, but they were in the front of his setup and contained no rear fills o it made it difficult to compare to the setup your using

DLS do not really sound like Diamond, however, it depends wot DLS speakers we are talking about here. There is quite a large sound difference between the Iridiums and Nobeliums, mainly due to one being a paper cone, and the other an aluminum cone.
TO get any form of Subbass out fo a 6.5inch, it is going to have to in a proper built, and designed enclosure.
The best 6.5inch speaker that comes to mind is the Rainbow power something or other, with a mounting depth of over 90mm. Quite a monster of a speaker, and able to play cleanly down to about 30-40hz in the right sized box.
There is pretty much no subbass going to be produced by any freeair speaker regardless of its size (including free air subs).
Try having a look, and posting the same question on www.caraudioaustralia.com.au
The other idea is to ring Marty from FHRX, and see what he thinks on your situtation.

I was recommended to get some 'point source' speakers i think they are called...
Alpine make some as do a few other brands. I can't remember much about them now, but they sound great as rear fill.
Other than that, a pair of 6" or 6.5" splits would be good as you can then position the tweeter to raise the stage slightly at the front of the car. Just lower the crossover on the rear woofers so that its playing more of the bass and less of the mid bass.

Hmm, Interesting.. When I contacted Marty a few months ago he actually recommended DLS as a match to Diamond Audio...
I havent posted on CAA for AGES! I might pop a post on there...
Thanks!

Get a sub.
You can not tell me that you could not handle an external volume of under 0.5cuft and under 5kg to fit a 6.5 or 8inch sub.
If not, who cares what you run the rear, its not going to help.
6x9's would help plenty in the rear. amp them well and install them without big gaps around them, and they will put out plenty of bass for a subless car.

Seconded - small subs, even a 10" can work well in as little as 0.5cuft box - total weight might be 15kg - which, isnt a lot.
I'de understand if this car was stripped without passenger and rear seats - but for a daily 15kg isnt much, just top fuel up to 3/4 instead of full :P

REAR SPEAKERS
My rear speakers dont even run, invest the mone on better fronts. Then rear, think, where does the sound come from in most home sound systems? the rear?
Or get a sub lol.
Front speakers, how could you walk past Boston S60's

There's two schools of thought here.
A) Purists - front stage only, sound is meant to come from the front.
B) Rear fill is important too.
I fall into the B catergory - I go to dance parties, and sound comes from all around you - as thats the main music I listen to, thats how I've tuned my system.

I think I feel the same way. I will have far better sound commign from the front.
I think Im going to TRY and order a set of Diamond Audio D3 series coaxiels for the back, just for fill, then ill save and TRY to squeeze an 8" sub into the boot, providing I have enough room with my 4pt strut brace in the rear...I THINK thats what Im going to do...
For rear fill I used these:
http://www.ryda.com.au/Soundstream-SST5-2-Tarantula-5-25-Speakers-p/sst52.htm
Which work rather well. Had a few good comments about these from rear passengers (considering they sit in the parcel shelf, not far from the passengers head im suprised).
Btw - have you seen some of these subs?
8" rockford sub http://www.lifestylestore.com.au/products/car/Rockford-Fosgate/8in****Subwoofers/ROCKFORD-FOSGATE-P2D48/

A few other brands make decent 8incher like:
RE8
Boston Acoustics G1
Vibe Space 8
DD 812
and the list goes on.....
If you going to add the "weight" of rears, save it for a sub :D

Marty and I somewhat differ on our opinions of DLS Speakers (as does Mike, but thats a long story, lol).
Marty is a true expert. Ill assume what he is refering to is the DLS Tweeter sound is similar to the Diamond Audio sound, that being a little "bright". I refer to them as detailed, this is where his and I opinions differ somewhat.
That said, what might best for you is a small sub (or two) fibreglassed into the wheel arches (infront of the wiper, and AYC/ACD fluid fillers). Shouldnt take any boot space, and shouldnt get in the way off your rear strut brace.
Next time to speak to him, tell him that you spoke to Biv, and that he told you Nobeliums are the best thing on the face of the earth. Wil be good for a laugh :D

There is also the Focal BOMBA 20A1 8" sub and amp boxed into no bigger than about 39cm x 35 cm x 34 cm or something similar to those figures.
Sounds great, good space saver.
